Great take out. Casual atmosphere small family type of place, Succulent pig is very good. I mostly use this place for take out.
Take out from Alex's is part of our regular rotation. We usually get a whole chicken cut up, salad and a bag of olives. Take it home and make rice and you have enough food for 4 people for under $20. Fast, fresh and simple. The only downfall is they don't have the yummy red sauce that other Portuguese chicken places serve. The hot sauce is killer hot, I can't stomach it. The chicken is crispier and less juicy than other places but we still really like it. Very friendly family-owned business.
This little unassuming Portuguese chicken take out place was around loooong before any hipsters even heard about Ossington St. Family owned and run, they do chicken right. They have the usual choice of sides that come with your half or whole chicken orders: roasted new potatoes (moist & crispy!), fresh green salad (with perfectly seasoned salad dressing that's not too tart), and/or rice (I find the rice a bit too firm so not my fav). Warning: order the regular chicken and not the spicy version. I consider my heat tolerance to be quite high and I couldn't relieve my mouth from the extreme burn the first and last time I ordered the spicy version. Instead, ask for the hot sauce on the side so you can dip as you please.
Alex also features specials on certain days of the week like seafood rice (which is filled with oodles of seafood goodness!). This delicious cheap & cheerful joint is definitely considered a gem on my list!
