Christmas cake gets a lot of bad press, but that is because people have had poor quality examples. Petite Thuet makes the best Caribbean Christmas rum fruit cake in Toronto. (And possibly North America - its better than the Christmas cake from Balthazar’s in NYC!). I’ve been making sure to buy a few of Petite Thuet’s Caribbean Christmas cakes every year for at least the past 6 years. His Christmas cake is a dark cake filled with fruit and gloriously soaked in rum. We used to be able to get it at the Petite Thuet stall in the Distillery Christmas Market. They were not there this year so we went to the Summerville store. It is a very special part of Christmas for me!
Really enjoyed a pain au chocolate and Americano here. The pastry was fresh and tasty and coffee was exactly as I like it. Not a large choice of pastries and very little seating. Across from Scrivener square in Summerhill.
Salted caramel macarons and flourless chocolate cakes here are my obsession. Worth the hefty price tag.
The Salted Caramel macaron was a hit! We all enjoyed the salty but undeniably sweet caramel flavour. The pistachio had a nice clean nutty flavour. The raspberry was a little lost on us. We found it too sweet.
Of the four flavors I was best impressed the lavender one. The elegance of it was how gentle the flavor danced on your palette at the same time the aroma heightened your senses.
Lovely place, great macaroons and tasty fresh croissants. The bread here is said to be amazing, as well as the homemade tomato sauce. The friendly chatty man behind the counter, who happens to be a big foodie and blogger, genuinely raved about those two, and I don't think he was just saying that because he worked there. Will give them a try sometime soon for sure.
