We were at Avenue Diner after the lunch rush on Saturday, and only a couple of tables were occupied. So service was very fast, and the server also happened to be very friendly. It's not the biggest place, and I can imagine it must have some very busy times.
SWMBO chose the Tuna Melt on rye, and she thought it was a pretty good rendition. I had the Avenue Club, with chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Tasty enough, but the chicken was a bit dry, was cut into small pieces, and several pieces fell out of the sandwich as I ate it. We also shared one order of Fries, which had a very nice, crispy exterior.
Good service but higher price. This traditional diner does not disappoint. I had an omelette, rye toast, and a side of sausages. The owner was on hand and very friendly. The server was also friendly and made sure to top off coffee as would be expected. There's also lots of seating early on Sunday morning so no need to rush your eating. My only disappointment was the price. $20 seemed high for a standard breakfast (portions were average size).
Best breakfast in the city. This old school diner is second to none. It's like a scene straight out of an 1980's classic movie. Highly recommend.
