Had a couple of lunch meals from here. The beef bulgogi is definitely a winner. A great dish full of flavour. A small place with authentic food.
Second visit: the chicken is also flavourful and delicious. A great lunch.
This place is a bit hard to find, as the outside is pretty unassuming - it doesn't look like a place you'd expect to find a Korean restaurant. It's a hole-in-the-wall, with only a handful of seats so plan to carry out if you're coming here.
I had the beef bulgogi, which was decent, but not amazing. Maybe this is just a criticism of the dish in general, but I found it to be pretty basic in flavour...which makes sense since it's just beef and veggies cooked in a sauce, served on streamed white rice. Portion size was pretty good, and cheap at $8/9, relative to the area.
The only major complaint I had was the wait. I waited about 15 minutes from when I ordered to when I actually got my food.
Otherwise, it's a decent place overall, but not one I'd go out of my way to visit.
On the outside, it's says Bob's Bulgogi. Upon closer inspection, it says Bulgogi ID. Going inside and taking a business card - it says 'SURASANG' on the front, Bob's Bulgogi on the back. Even the address is two-fold: 105 Victoria St./39 1/2 Richmond St. But all you need to know is that this tiny place does legit Bulgogi and Bibimbap.
It looks like it's mainly run by a young Korean guy and gal, and they do all the cooking on.the.spot. So fresh.
Like I said, only two options: Bulgogi and Bibimbap.
Get the Bulgogi with rice/noodles/veggie and with shrimp/beef/chicken/tofu. There is no wrong combination there. If you get the shrimp - they are super fresh looking, shells still on the tail - you won't be going wrong. Bibimbap is also good and that sunny side up egg is freshly cooked, right in front of you. Hot sauce is a good spicy, smoky sauce with black sesame seeds; looks like it was made in-house.
Plus, whichever dish you order - it is a nice helping of food. You won't go hungry. Trust.
The space is ultra-tiny: 3 (?) stools at the bar and two tiny half-tables. You better be taking that food to go. Also, since it's so small, decide your meal before you enter! The business cards/entire menu are super key. Food is dished out pretty quick, depending on the line (they hand out numbers, so no worries about missing yours).
Added bonus: always awesome jams being played while you wait. I heard some nice 90's rap the first time I was there, dug the 80's the next time I stopped by.
