Prenup Pub Front As for the interior, there were two floors with separate bars. I liked the added touch of elegance from the fancy chandeliers and sections with comfy seats. Prenub pub Bloggers dinner table The menu is typical of many pubs with steak frites, pizza and burgers with a strong European flair including a Belgium stew and wurst salad . I think the stand out of the restaurant is the variety of beer, with over 70 different taps from around the world! As for the dinner, this was one of the quickest blogger dinners I had experienced. I felt like I was speed eating as 8 dishes including dessert wwre served within a span of an hour or less. Thankfully, I had a sample all the dishes presented to me. Here were my favourites: 1. The Wurst Salad with sliced sausages, tomato, garlic, parsley, dill pickles, marinated with olive oil and German mustard. I love my meat, and this was a tasty way to incorporate into a salad to make it hearty and filling. Wurst salad 2. The Mussels of the Da y with a sweet chili tomato sauce, topped with green onions. I enjoyed the tomato broth accompanying the plump mussels.

The menu at Prenup is, as is to be expected, meat heavy, but they do offer a vegetarian pizza and a hearty chicken stew, which I was able to enjoy. I really liked the stew – it was thick, creamy and perfect for a winter evening. I also thought it paired nicely with the Affligem Abbey Blonde Ale. And, always an important pub fact, the fries at Prenup are pretty darn awesome.

Prenup Pub has the same owner as The Village Idiot and Sin & Redemption and they have obviously put a lot of time and money into turning it into a more upscale pub. The décor is slightly gothic with lots of chandeliers and sconces, but the atmosphere is still warm and inviting. It was very busy on the night of our dinner, with lots of students from nearby UofT filling two floors, along with several groups there for business dinners. In just a few months it seems to have developed a strong clientele.

The wine list surprised me. While it is on the lower end of the scale price-wise (a smart choice for a pub near a university), there was an eclectic and interesting mix. It seemed that while they chose to go with wines that were affordable by the glass, they had thought about what worked well with the menu. There were the expected German Rieslings and heavy reds, but also a nice mix of regions and varietals. I was surprised to see KWV’s Café Culture (a mix of coffee, chocolate and Pinotage) available by the glass. While that one is not for everyone’s tastes, it’s nice to see Prenup taking a chance with a unique selection. With a student-heavy clientele, that makes good sense to me.

I've been here twice now and it's a nice option for after work drinks or a fun evening at the pub.

At first glance on their web page the impression you get of the Prenup Pub is one of post secondary schtick. A witty, yet profoundly long “agreement” explains the importance of drinking responsibly while also putting a bug in the ear of the reader about the other establishments under the same ownership. Located along the slightly frayed edge of the University of Toronto proper, this cozy two story European pub boast an exorbitant list of beers on and off tap.
And while the students probably don’t need another popular watering hole, the Prenup Pub is a perfect place for the tired, over studied, slightly hungover to get away from sushi and ramen and fast food take out and enjoy hearty, creatively developed pub style meals. With a cozy interior gluttonous of space for large crowds, locals can nurse their too many late nights with a cold one pulled from the bar and a plate of homesick curing grub.
European twists on Canadian Favorites are abundant across the menu from the German or Belgian Poutine to “sausage roll” like Braised Lamb in Phyllo.
And if diners feel like sticking to the Saturday regulars ordering pizza will still impressed with it’s puff pastry crust. Standard dishes like Pork Schnitzel and a Wurst salad of sausage, pickles, garlic, hers and mustard that is so full of unique flavor are so well delivered that it would not be hard to return multiple times in one week just to eat your way through the menu.
Probably the best dish sampled was an instant brunch hangover cure of the Madame Monsieur Waffles. Chimay ham, cheese, and an over hard fried egg top traditional Belgian waffles that is the perfect combination of sweet, savour and greasy. Served with frites it is sure to be the weekenders special.
If the norm is for restaurants to be a reflection of their neighbourhoods, Prenup Pub tosses that out the window and offers an experience of great food and boozy atmosphere.

I visited in Dec. 2014 for a media tasting.

This was a U of T central hangout with tons of students even on a weeknight.

The 2 storey restaurant has a bar on both floors, some fancy seats and gorgeous chandeliers. Don't forget to check out their cool wall of beer bottles.

The stand out of the restaurant is that they offer over 70 beers on tap from all over the world. Out of the offerings I tried, the top 3 things I would recommend are:

1. The Wurst Salad with sliced sausages, tomato, garlic, parsley, dill pickles, marinated with olive oil and German mustard. I love my meat, and this was a tasty way to incorporate into a salad to make it hearty and filling.

2. The Mussels of the Day with a sweet chili tomato sauce, topped with green onions. I enjoyed the tomato broth accompanying the plump mussels.

3. The tiramisu was the highlight of my meal as it was ultra creamy and really hit the spot after all the savoury dishes.

Prenup pub is a great place to go with a bunch of friends who love to try different beers because they have 70 on tap. With a European focused menu with dishes like mussels and frites and schnitzel and a madame monsieur waffle. Upscale pub restaurant that has only been open for 2 months.
