Really good food and really good service. The environment was also peaceful. Id love to go there again.
My friend and I went on a Tuesday night to Sushi Couture in the Annex. I had dined at all the surrounding Japanese restaurants but had not come in here because I heard the prices were a little high in comparison. While this is true, the quality of the sushi here is much higher. For instance, you can’t order a fish carpaccio in a citrus glaze at New Generation. This was a delicately prepared item.

The sashimi here is what shows the restaurants quality. Everything is fresh. Look at that red tuna belly! It did not taste frozen. The octopus and the salmon were also delicious. Just eating sashimi can be quiet heavy on the wallet though.
The tempura was batter well and came with a variety of vegetables: okra (personally not a fan), green beans, cucumbers, sweet potato, broccoli.
While the food was awesome (albeit a bit pricey), I found the shortfall here was the service. It took us over 30 minutes to receive the first dish, with no real explanation as to why it was taking so long. It wasn’t a particularly busy night. I’ll admit that I had somewhere to be but we went to the restaurant an hour and a half before we needed to be anywhere else!
In a sea of sushi places in the Annex, a refreshing departure from the subpar sushi joint. Albeit a little bit more pricier, you certainly get more complex flavours and fresh fish variety. Once you come here, you realize how other places in the vicinity pale in comparison.
Really good sushi with imported fresh fishes. I couldn't believe how good this place was. Never tried it and went to so many right beside it. A real gem you won't be disappointed. Also amazing is the streak teriyaki
Remarkable taste, texture, and presentation elevate Couture miles above the standard Annex sushi spots.
Minimally played and robust in flavour, every dish we had elicited a chorus of oohs and mmms. Grilled eggplant looked nothing like it but once on the palate it melts in your mouth as though made of chocolate. Octopus sashimi among the freshest-tasting in the city, served with a slice of lemon to bring out even more flavour. A seared tuna option - uncommon on Toronto sushi menus - does not disappoint, with braised edges surrounding a rich hunk of fresh tuna sashimi.
Service is accommodating, portions are reasonable, prices in line with product. Great option to have in the hood.
Exceptional sushi, exceptionally high prices. I can't fault the quality or the presentation -- Sushi Couture gave me some of the best vegetarian sushi I've ever eaten -- and my partner raved about the #buttermaki -- but, the price point is about $5 higher (for the dinner option) than I felt I wanted to pay for what I received. Probably won't order from here again, but wouldn't discourage others from trying.
Sushi Couture has found a beautiful balance of quality and quantity. The regular menu is modestly priced, and everything tastes like it's made especially for you, even if it's been made 20 times that day.

Whether you are looking for a quick bite or an immersion into a stellar chef's palate, Sushi Couture is your restaurant.
An under-appreciated but incredible restaurant. I've come to Sushi Couture many times throughout the years. Due to its location on the Annex amongst cheap AYCE and cheap regular Sushi joints, this place gets a bad rep for either A) not being cheap enough to compete or B) being a cheap Japanese restaurant like all the others.
This is simply not the case. Sushi Couture sources fresh fish daily and has a variety of fresh seafood items that you can't find at many Japanese restaurants. Examples include Japanese Halfback (Sayori), Monkfish Liver, and Geoduck. The name of the game here is their extremely fresh and prepared fish. I recently came for some sushi and sashimi. Fresh uni right from the shell, a fish I'd never had before (sayori), real wasabi, etc.
Their service is impeccable as well. You never need to ask for a refill because it feels like the servers are just watching, waiting for their moment to strike your never-empty teacup with more streaming green tea, they bring you everything without asking, and service is effective and efficient.
I'd say this restaurant is perfect for first time dates if you want to impress someone without blowing a crazy amount of money. The atmosphere is fairly relaxing and intimate and quiet enough to have a nice conversation. The food is a great conversation starter as well.
The best sushi between Spadina and Bathurst on Bloor. Sushi Couture is the best sushi in that Annex mini-strip of sushi restaurants between Spadina and Bathurst. I know that isn't saying much when Sushi On Bloor and New Generation are the main competition but it's worth mentioning since people come to that area for sushi and then fill up terrible places like those instead of a great place like this. The food may be a few dollars more at Sushi Couture but it's way better (especially if you want actual sushi and not just boring California rolls) and it's still way cheaper than the high end sushi places. I've been here multiple times and I love getting the sashimi and sushi lunch combo or the sashimi dinner. I prefer to stick to pieces of sushi or sashimi but I've tried a few rolls too and the butter yaki maki was pretty amazing.
I recommend this place to anyone that wants very good sushi at a mid-range price.
