Their Summerlicious menu ($28) was equally traditional, with the exception of the vegetable samosa, suitably safe for non-adventurous eaters. Of course, as a food lover, I love trying new things. But, sometimes I get tired of the shared fusion plates, doused in a variety of sauces and start yearning for timeless dishes.
If Browne’s grilled calamari weren’t so salty, the starter would have been good: the seafood was tender with a gentle smokiness. However, this was ruined by over seasoning the calamari when the aged balsamic and shallot sauce drizzled on top was also so flavourful.
Despite being thinly sliced, the Atlantic salmon was surprisingly moist having been grilled quickly so it was just cooked through. Unlike the starter, the fish was
My favourite restaurant in the Yonge St Clair area, Browne's Bistro has been serving consistently pleasing upscale food dishes for years. Usually a few good fish items and meats on special. Decent wines by the glass and an atmosphere of quiet elegance make this a good spot for business lunches or date-night soirees. Frequented by patrons who have eaten at the best places everywhere and are happy to sit down with a straight-up meal with no surprises.
Best flank steak I've ever tasted! Done pink and just right. Served with perfect green beans and frites. This looks like the best item on their Summerlicious menu. It's my first time at this restaurant and likely won't be my last. The grilled calamari with salad is good although could be more "grilled". Dessert of Apple crisps was too sweet and gooey to my liking. Service was okay although server could be more attentive - gave me the wrong first course, gave my dinner companion yogurt in her gazpacho and ice cream in her dessert in spite being told not to. But it was quickly corrected.
And yes, I like the quiet. It's great to be able to have some dinner conversation for a change!
