2968 Dundas Street West Toronto, ON M6P 1Y8 (416) 762-0777. The Beet, at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Dundas West in the Junction, is a healthy organic café in a large and bright space serving delicious food such as the pictured huevos rancheros, with friendly & efficient staff.
I was drawn to the idea of eating at The Beet when I heard that all the eggs, meat, cheese and produce are certified organic, and sourced from local farmers whenever possible. Additionally, they carry imported items that are Certified Fair Trade, use eco friendly packaging and the restaurant space is decorated with reclaimed materials. Why is this important to note when selecting a place to eat (besides the obvious)? Well, if they care this much about the quality of ingredients and such, then they'll likely cook a delicious meal!
I had the "house favourite" Loaded Avocado Combo: 1/2 an avocado stuffed with brown coconut Thai rice and veggies, topped with spicy peanut sauce, avocado, sprouts, with salad, toast with house pesto and daily soup (which was tomato).... Simple ingredients, but a satisfying lunch. My dining partner had the Roasted Beets and Apple Salad (with goat cheese, pickled onions, tamari roasted seeds, and balsamic maple vinaigrette) as well as a side of Mac n Cheese...but it was prepared with gluten-free rice and quinoa macaroni in a Quebec cheddar sauce, topped with gluten free breadcrumbs, hemp hearts and pickled jalapeños. I tasted it and it was creamy and delicious...and I didn't miss the gluten one bit! :)
The Beet also serves coffee, smoothies and fresh pressed juices - so even if you don't stop in for a meal, it's a good "grab and go" spot.

I love the food at The Beet. You can taste the freshness and the quality in the dishes plus the portions are really generous.I like going to brunch and having the Heuvos Rancheros but I have also had their wraps and salads which are just as yummy! One of my favourite spots in the city!
Chimmi Chicken Tostada with Side Salad. Super fresh ingredients, piled so high, needed utensils to eat! Cilantro lime dressing made it.
It's rare that I find a restaurant that caters to every type of eater in my friend group. Gluten-free? Vegan? Paleo? The Beet has it all, and they do it without breaking a sweat. The food is homey and wholesome but with enough colour and flavour to remind that they're pros. Worth driving to the junction if you're not lucky enough to be a local!
A good find!. Went for brunch on Sunday. Had to wait 20 min. Very friendly staff. The food was tasty. A bit prices but yes, I will pay some extra for organic ingredients..depends how you feel about it. Nice cozy athmosphere. Try the banana chocolate chip muffin!
Friendly atmosphere. We went there on a weekend for lunch. friendly staff, good food, at reasonable prices considering it is (mostly?) organic. The portions were a little small, so we had to order some more after we had already polished off our meals.
Would love it if they had a couple more dishes that were vegan, or more easily convertible. I.e., don't have to lose the flavour and protein if you remove the cheese or chicken. Should substitute.
The vegan roti was great for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in island food.
It was great food for the price and quality. Found the staff to be friendly with great suggestions. Went in for lunch when working in the area and will be back again. I have lots of friends with food restrictions and I know they will love it too!
Delightful. My wife, 18 month old daughter and I had lunch there today. It was recommended to us months ago, and while in the neighbourhood and hungry, we remembered the recommendation and went. The place has a good vibe, relaxed and unpretentious, with prompt, friendly service. The food was excellent- recommend the huevos rancheros, for sure. Fresh, excellent ingredients, nice preparation. Mild criticisms: slightly small portions, slightly high prices. Regardless, it's worth an extra bit of pocket change for the great food, which is made from good ingredients. It feels like a place that holds true to its values, keeps it real, and yummy. We'll go back again, trying some different items.

The brunch is a bit pricey but delicious. The layout could be better, it would be cool if they used a layout like Balzac's in the distillery district. They have hight to add a loft space.
