Sketchy exterior. Cozy interior. Ate dinner on a Sunday evening, and was under dressed. The other patrons were not in cocktail or black tie, but were dressed for dinner. We were wearing jeans & hoody's. Service was excellent! Very friendly, not pushy, slightly "relaxed" speed; but for the style of dining it was perfect. Food was plentiful! Pickles to start, then bread and butter, salads were large and fresh, mains were extremely generous, vegetables cooked perfectly, meat was juicy and flavourful. Perhaps a little salty, but I do not often cook with any salt at home so it might be just right. No room to explore dessert. They packed my extras up and sent my home with extra pickles!
Can't wait to come back?
Simply Delicious. This place looks dark and uninviting from the outside – it located in a small strip plaza but is definitely a hidden gem!
The menu has many options – steak, seafood, lamb, Souvlaki etc. Fresh pickles and bread are brought before the meals.
The service is efficient. The owner or his son at times takes the order themselves and often walks around to greet the patrons.
I've always ordered the steak and I've never been disappointed. The food is quality and the food is fresh – I’m tempted to say that it’s even better than the Keg.
Simply delicious!
AWESOME! From appitizer to entre to dessert the food was cooked to perfection. Our steaks came exactly as we ordered them. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Had a birthday dinner here. We both wanted to try a "new" place and within the area. The plaza is very ghetto and the outside definitely needs a facelift but don't judge a book by its cover! The place inside is quite lovely. Candlelight dinner, dimmed lights small cozy warm feel. Wine displayed throughout the dining room. The focal point would be a small nicely decorated bar. Food was great. Very good portions. Service was excellent. Very friendly and was attentive to our needs. Would recommend this place to people in the area for sure.
What a gem. I had the pleasure of dining for lunch last week and both the food and service for excellent! I cant remember the last time I was served fresh ( not frozen) vegetables . We had the cabbage rolls ( 2 huge) served with sour cream, fresh bread and a medley of turnip , zucchini, carrots and broccoli. The waitress was most attentive, often refilling our ice water and offering fresh ground pepper. The place is a delight!
Excellent Experience. They did a great job of serving and the quality of food was good.
Fabulous Dining Experience. We found this steak house by searching online and decided to go there for our Silver Anniversary. From the moment we passed through the door it was obvious that this delightful little place offered a very pleasant atmosphere and provided a definite sense of class. We both ordered the 8 oz. peppercorn steak which is served with fresh vegetables and either soup or salad. Absolutely delicious! To top things off the owner offered us any desert of our choosing on the house to celebrate our 25th.
The service by one of the owners was excellent from start to finish. Simply stated, amazing gem of a place to dine.
The Blackhorn is amazing.. you have to be totally screwed not to have a good dining experience here.... there is only one waitress here that could ruin that for you as for the owners and the other staff they are hard working, pleasant and will do what they can to make it worth your time and $$$$.
We have been going to this restaurant since 1989 and we have only experienced a wonderful relaxing enjoyable time. We have also booked many family/friend parties in their free room downstairs and have had amazing times,
you complain about this place/food you have to be ultra picky and nowhere / and no one will ever please you
GREAT FOOD- GREAT WINE - AMAZING OWNERS----- exceptional c
Great local steakhouse. This intimate steakhouse has been around since 1969 and I have always found the people very welcoming, especially George and Helen the owners. I read the review on this website very surprising as it's totally against my experience there.
The report on the dineto website was much more inline with my thoughts.
The striploin steaks are always good as are the specials they put on, especially Pok Medallions.
It's a great place to go for a diinner with friends and not too expensive. The only occasional drawback is the parking as the restaurant is in a plaza and there is a pool hall at the other end - which can sometimes make the lot busy, especially if there's a lot of snow piled up (not this year). There is also a room downstairs for groups.
So go and enjoy!
Food is excellent. Probably some of the best cuts of meat around. The prime rib was to die for....seriously...melt in your mouth. Owners are very friendly and sweet.
