We brought our kids (7, 4 & 7mos) with us to have a lovely dinner at Victor Restaurant. The meal was excellent, they accommodate our dietary restrictions (Halal) and the service was a great and friendly. Definitely will be back for another meal there.

Victor is one of our favorites in Toronto's Entertainment District. The service is great, and the food is consistently excellent. The steak frites are among the best we've had anywhere.

Victor Restaurant & Café at Le Germain Hotel on Mercer Street in Toronto just opened its doors after serious renovations, and this means they’re ready for all your TIFF dinner plans. The space has an American tavern feel, while maintaining

I had an excellent time at victor. It's beautiful and classy. Pricing is very reasonable for such a fantastic place. They served us an appetizer on the house to begin. I highly recommend the poutine and the ceasar salad

A Nice Treat. Went here for Valentines day. They had a set menu of 4 courses for $75 per person. I thought this was a pretty decent deal for being an upscale restaurant.

The menu we had consisted of
Soups - lobster bisque and a leek soup. Both were good but not amazing
Salad - tuna with scallops and a beet salad. The tuna was really good. It was sushi style tuna and the scallops were seared to perfection. The beet salad was also good but the tuna was way better
Pomegranate sorbet to "cleanse" the palette
Dinner - my wife had the beef tenderloin and I had the black cod. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. All of the other flavours it came with matched very well.
Desert - Chocolate mousse cake and a passion fruit custard (think creme brule). Both delicious

We were served glasses complimentary sparking wine to begin the evening. The servers were very attentive and prompt and the atmosphere was great.

All in all a nice place to eat for a special dinner.

I nearly freaked right out when David himself came out of the kitchen to visit the table beside us. Our lovely waiter, seeing my unconcealed excitement, made sure to introduce us. David Chrystian is not just an amazing chef, he is also super sweet to take the time to chat with us while he was clearly running a very busy kitchen. I can't wait to rub my steaks with his Original Toronto Spice Blend, David's signature spice mixture inspired by the multicultural flavours of the city. Awesome chef and an awesome night. Rosie :)

VICTOR Restaurant Bar is located inside the chic Hotel Le Germain ; tucked away on Mercer Street, it is literally a “hidden gem.”  I imagine many celebrities who want some privacy would love to dine here. For me, I just enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, attentive service and delicious food that former Top Chef Canada competitor David Chrystian churns out of the kitchen.  While he didn’t ultimately take home the prize – his dishes are winners for me. The ambiance is laid back but sophisticated as giant “lampshade” fixtures loom over each table and large windows with tucked draping makes for great people watching.  There’s also a bar if you just want to grab a drink. Chrystian’s tasting menu pays hommage to the many ethnic neighbourhoods and streets that call Toronto home.  Each dish on the tasting menu is $14 which is a bargain for the top notch dishes offered.  There are no preset number of courses, which makes this one of the most versatile tasting menus in Toronto (it’s pretty much à la

Set in a scratch-built old converted brick building in the theatre district, Victor hides as a simple hotel restaurant inside Le Germain.  What a surprise then, when

Our first meal in Toronto consisted of a ‘quick bite’ from Victor Restaurant, located in Le Germain, a boutique hotel we were staying at during the course of Taste of Toronto. You may recognize Chef David Chrystian, the Executive Chef and co-owner of Victor as a Top Chef Canada finalist and one of his signature desserts – foie gras ice cream sandwich (which, by the way they no longer make at the restaurant). Starting August 23, Victor will offer brunch, and we were lucky enough to have a taste of the new menu: Poached Eggs and Meatball Gratin (tomato sauce, crisp bacon and pecorino cheese) – a nice dish. Lobster Poutine (cheese curds, Hollandaise) – poutine is definitely very popular here on the East Coast, it would only make sense they’d serve it with another East Coast staple – lobster. No picture taken unfortunately! Tourtiere with HV sauce, wild arugula and fried onion salad. Tourtiere is usually served during Christmas in Quebec – it’s repurposed here for brunch. It could hit a lo

Toronto is pretty spoiled when it comes to brunch offerings, that is for certain. We can go just about anywhere and get anything we want for brunch. We will even wait in lineups (ridiculous ones at that) just for a mediocre cup of joe, some eggs and bacon.

But Chef David Chrystian of Hotel Le Germain’s Victor Restaurant & Lounge wants to change the way us Torontonians look at brunch. His view? Let’s stop getting so frustrated from lineups and bad service and let’s make brunch a classier affair again, a meal that everyone looks forward to.

Victor Restaurant’s new brunch menu has offerings inspired by Toronto, in name and in spirit. Chef David has created his dishes with sharing in mind, as brunch is best done with friends. On the menu, he has created an “On The Table” set of offerings where 2-3 dishes are recommended for ordering alongside your regular mains. We decided to partake in a brunch classic like the Rosti Potato ($22, stuffed with black trumpet mushrooms, smoked salmon, dill sour cream and cloudberry compote) but then also decided to test out the Lobster Poutine ($22) for something a little different. The offerings were light and sophisticated.

However, it was the main Toronto inspired brunch menu that really stole the show. The dishes offer a little bit of something for everyone: salty, sweet and savoury. That day we decided to explore three different brunch neighbourhoods Little Italy ($16, herb frittata, crispy prosciutto and shaved melon), the Kensington ($14, fried eggs, avocado, refried beans, pico de gallo, corn tortilla) and the Roncesvalles ($18, potato and white cheddar perogies, fried onions, bacon, farmers sausage, eggs and crème fraîche). Each dish was playful and exciting offering up comfort classic brunch dishes with a twist. It was a playful approach to a delicious brunch offering.

Chef David Chrystian is taking a bold approach to the way brunch is done in the city and we for one are on board. If you want a restaurant you can make brunch reservations at and can still get high-quality food at a good price, then Victor Restaurant is the place to visit. Also: save room for the sticky buns! You won’t be disappointed.

Food, Friends and Flavours of Toronto

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the brunch menu at Victor Restaurant inside Hotel Le Germain on Mercer. One of my dear friends was celebrating a birthday and his wife worked together with the staff of the hotel to organize an awesome afternoon.

We reserved the private dining room at the back of the restaurant, a gorgeous sunlit space that staff filled with gorgeous floral arrangements and personalized menu cards at each place setting.

Brunch at Victor Restaurant was such a treat. Chef David Chrystian, formerly of The Drake Hotel and Top Chef Canada, created a menu inspired by our most vibrant neighbourhoods.

I loved these standout dishes:

Chai spiced bread pudding, thick yogurt,

candied cashews, summer fruit chutney

Lobster Poutine

fresh cheese curds, hollandaise

Rosti Potato stuffed with black trumpet mushrooms,

smoked salmon, dill sour cream and cloudberry compote

As someone who doesn’t like eggs, I’m usually stuck on what to eat at most brunch places. I normally just get the burger. I tried the burger at Victor and it was just ok - not a bad burger, but it really paled in comparison to the rest of the food we tried. The staff at Victor were wonderful and I definitely won’t be waiting until the next birthday to treat myself to brunch :-)
