This place has become our go to place for south Indian food near downtown. The food is excellent and quite authentic. I loved their chicken and mutton dosas. The service is good and prompt.
Thoroughly enjoyed their ghee roast masala dosa and the idli vada. Their sambhar is out of this world. Just miss having filter coffee here. That could be a great addition to the selection versus the coffee they serve right now.
Ambience is decent and service is quick.
An amazing south Indian right walking from Christie Station. It has amazing Idli, Vadas and Rasam. The dosa were alright not that bad bht good in taste. Coffee was amazing. Overall great experience. Service was a bit slow but enjoyed the food.

This is one of the few places that serves distinctly flavorful food. Veg biryani in coconut milk, hakka chinese fried rice, chettinad curry all have an original taste. In most Indian restaurants, there's a common sauce/ paste binding all the recipes. This place is quite decent, affordable, but there's no fancy lighting and furniture. Food is really worth the travel.
Thirst for pipping hot idli ended hereš. Small compact place with good South Indian food. Not very expensive and very accessible too as it's near to TTC Christie. We tried Idli , Mysore masala , butter milk and coffee. All was good in taste and enjoyed a bite.
Convenient downtown location for satisfying those south Indian cravings - you can get all your favourites here like dosa! The prices are higher than out in the suburbs but pretty good for the location. Get takeout and sit in the park for a nice summer evening meal
The Indian population in major North American cities have now reached such a level that new restaurants are opening up which offer people the chance to experience cuisines from different regions of India and not just the 'tikka masala' , 'naan', 'biryani' and other north Indian stuff that usually goes by the name of 'Indian food' in the west.
Madras Masala is one such restaurant which offers food from the South of India. The restaurant was full of Canadians when I went for dinner. So it is good to see that people in the west are starting to discover and appreciate the variousĀ regional cuisines of India.Ā
This restaurant may have bought spices and flavours from Southern India to Toronto, but they have adopted American practice when it comes to portions. So the dosas they offer are truly MONSTROUS in size, more so for the paper masala dosa that I asked for. One dosa can be enough for a family of four. Needless to say I couldn't finish even half the dosa. The taste was nothing special but it was not bad either. The servers were courteous. The prices reasonable, considering the quantity they offer. A decent place overall.
For the one looking for a short summary, if you love dosas as much as I do (I'm South Indian, explains plenty) - this is the place to be.
Madras Masala brings to Toronto a good measure of the classic South Indian cuisine, a bit of an elite ambience(as per Indian standards) and a piece of home.
Forget about the other dishes they offer, they are quite decent (good when compared other offerings in Toronto) - cause the highlight of their menu is their dosas - and it deserves the praise. I've tried all of their varieties - though i must say the classic Dosas(the plain, masala and the ghee rava) is simply their best. If you're thinking of giving this place a shot, don't miss out on these.
The ambience isn't classic Indian but at the same time isn't too fancy either. Its good enough to be comfortable, and you won't be overwhelmed. The servers are very friendly, and they don't mind take you through the menu if you are a newbie.
The price isn't very light on the pockets, but I can assure you that the portion sizes are exceptional and any good meal in Toronto comes at a similar range.
I'd recommend this place, 100%! It won't disappoint.
One of the best South Indian joints in Toronto. Simply delicious dosas and uttapas. The pics clicked might water your mouth and are simply that good. Enjoyed the Special Madras Cafe, which has authentic aroma and taste. Will surely visit this place again. My belly is so happy...thank you guys!
The most authentic and delicious south Indian doses, I've ever had in my life! Definitely a must visit place in Toronto, if you're a foodie!
