One of the stops was to The Beech Tree for a quick dinner; it's a restaurant along Kingston Road offering traditional pub fare. Robert Maxwell, owner, quit his job as a former analyst, to open up his own restaurant after realizing his culinary dreams. Despite being a first-time restaurateur, he has succeeded in creating a warm space where people could enjoy "comforting and accessible food made with good ingredients and flair." The Beech Tree specializes in creating from-scratch dishes that are made with locally sourced ingredients, and providing customers with an exceptional dining experience. I liked that the menu incorporate inspirations from British, Italian, and French cuisines, but they do add a more Ontario-centric interpretations of these dishes.
My favourite restaurant in Toronto. Delicious, creative dishes. Brilliant cocktails. Warm and friendly service. Charming atmosphere. I've never been disappointed and everyone I've taken has left so impressed and satisfied. I can't wait to return yet again. Do yourself a favour and give Beech Tree a try!
Excellent. Superb addition to the Beech. I agree the focus is not on quantity and portion size, there are plenty of places in Beach to get wings and fries if this is your priority. However, If you're looking for carefully prepared food, tasty, creatively presented, then try Beech Tree.
Finally a great restaurant in the hood.. The Beach is an awesome place to live, but you need to go to Leslieville for good food - until now. I have to admit I have walked by many times and tonight walked in and sat at the bar dining solo. Ambiance is very friendly and welcoming. Food is fresh and so real - what food should taste like. Their cocktail menu is inviting, intriguing and well, you just can't say no.
LOVE The Beech Tree. Thank goodness for The Beech Tree! We were getting so tired of cabbing it to Leslieville!
This spot is the lovely, cozy, friendly desperately-needed neighbourhood restaurant for the Upper Beach. Very reasonable pricing and great food. Beech also has some amazing cocktails, which they diversify regularly. The bartender even swung by our table to share what was in mine and where to get some of the unique ingredients so we could make it at home.
We are regulars and trying to spread the word...but not too much so that we can still get a table on a Saturday night :)
Foods is very good indeed. Menu and specials varied enough. I don't get the pub or winebsr connection. It's a very good Bistro indeed.
I absolutely love love love love this place!!! The beach is severely lacking in terms of notable restos.... It feels as though all the good stuff decided to stop just before woodbine. But the food was absolutely amazing. My husband and I were there with a friend and we shared 3 apps and 2 main courses. And all I have to say is that the cheese and cabbage soup was to die for, I had no shame in licking every last drop with my finger. The special: roasted pork with crackling, was cooked a perfectly pink and superbly moist... My girlfriend doesn't east pork and she had a whole piece to herself! All in all.... I can't get enough... Guess where we're having dinner on Tuesday night?? Bravo!
We had a great dinner not long after it officially opened. I have no complaints, just advice for the owners: Be a little more generous with the cooked barley (or was it wheat berries?) which soaked up the chicken juices nicely. I am a huge fan of roast chicken and was not disappointed. The lamb hot pot (like a shep pie) should be doubled in size and served as a main. Server seemed disinterested or maybe tired, I would have enjoyed a more enthusiastic reception from a new restaurant. I will definitely go back and hope to get to know the owners.
There is a real warmth to this Kingston Road restaurant in Toronto's Upper Beaches. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're inside a Manhattan bistro in Greenwich Village.
There’s a sophisticated homey charm to its décor. But, it’s small size has drawbacks – one being waiting 25 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. It’s unclear whether they have limited dishware, but 10 of the 25 minutes was spent setting the table.
The Osborne ($10) sounded delicious made with cucumber infused gin, cucumber puree, Thai basil, lemon and lillet. It’s light and refreshing, a good drink to start with.
Thankfully, their food impressed. The pan-seared gaspe scallops ($14) was fantastic and beautifully presented on a platter. The scallops had a nice seared crust and was just cooked through. Even the items accompanying it were great – the tender house-cured ham and what I thought were soft creamy potatoes which turned out to be Jerusalem artichokes. This is an appetizer that’s great for sharing.
