After seeing the queue forming outside Hazel’s Diner, I’ve been intrigued by the all-day breakfast establishment… what flap jacks are they serving that makes people line up from 9am to noon (sometimes even during weekdays)? Having finally made it through the door, my conclusion is Hazel’s is so popular due to its location (being part of a busy neighbourhood where there’s no other diner) and their reasonable prices.
Their all-day breakfast includes the staple two eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries. While it’s normally $9.95, on Monday and Friday before 11am the price decreases to $6.99. Everything is done solidly: the scrambled eggs fluffy and actually tastes like eggs, the bacon crispy, and the home fries incorporate well caramelized onions giving it interest.
In retrospect, had I known how large their pancakes were, we wouldn’t have added on a half stack ($8) to share. Each pancake is about

Lunch today was at Hazel's Diner. It's not a big place, and it was full when we arrived, so we had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. We were here once several years ago with the family, and I think maybe they have redecorated since then.
SWMBO saw the Chicken Pesto Penne on the menu, and her mind was made up. Noodles were a bit overdone, but the Pesto more than made up for it.
They have a few Eggs Benedict choices, and after going back and forth, I picked the Eggs Natasha. At the bottom were pancakes, then smoked salmon, poached eggs cooked medium, hollandais sauce, sour creme and some caviar on top. Each bite was a delightful mix of sweet, sour, salty, soft and smooth. Yum.
Service was friendly and good.

I met up with a friend here for Sunday brunch. By the time 11am rolled around, there was a line that queued up outside of the entrance. 20 minutes later we had a seat. This place serves traditional and non traditional breakfast foods ranging from eggs/bacon, pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, and sandwiches. We ordered the Eggs Natasha and The Caker. The Eggs Natasha is a hybrid of an Eggs Bene on a light piece of pancake served with smoked salmon, sour cream, black caviar and home fries. This was one of the best breakfast dishes I have ever had. All the flavor from each item combined to form a wonderful taste. The pancake was so light and fluffy acting as a cracker for the smoked salmon with sour cream. The Caker is like a calzoni except the shell is pancake and it is stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese. You can even dip it in maple syrup to satisfy your savoury and sweet tooth in one bite. It was good as well but I would give a slight edge to Eggs Natasha. Well done!
