Ate there last night and ordered the Roast Beef dinner plate and wow was it good. the beef was so tender and delish. the staff were so kind and friendly. The waitress went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and well looked after. I will go there any time I am in the area and in search of some great food.
The food is delicious, the portions are huge and the staff are kind and efficient. It's my go-to breakfast spot!
Amazing service.
Great for these 2 dishes - The Spanish Omelette lovely, flavorful, great veggies, so fluffy!! Rye toast was good, potato hash was great. MM
The Eggs Benedict with the hollandaise was perfect, the potato hash was good too. Beautifully cooked poached eggs. Fresh caramelized mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes.
Orange juice freshly squeezed tasted like , it was so good!
Thank you! Lovely to go to place for breakfast/brunch.
Always good food and fast service...feel like your at home and just have visitor's...yes..comfy...i recommend people to check it out when visiting da city...
Loved the food and the service... great brunch spot! Had the St. Patrick which was to die for. Be back soon!
Sooooo good! A hidden gem! Our server was super friendly and accommodating, (especially since we had a whiny kid with us). Had the Scala Eggs Benny and my hubby had the regular Eggs Benny. You get 4 eggs! HUGE portions! Probably the best eggs Benny I’ve ever had. We were going to order the regular pancakes for our kids and our server advised against and to just get side orders...which was the perfect size!! Highly recommended! Yumm.
Chew Chew's at College and Sherbourne with its full lounge seats is a great diner with its signature all day breakfast as well as classic fare served by friendly staff. It is easy to become a regular here!
I just discovered Chew Chew's and it is just wonderful. I've been looking for a diner like this for years and I'm very happy I found it. I want to try most of their food but I started with Halibut fish and chips (also first time I've seen Halibut in years). It was just perfect, cooked just right, enough fries for 5 people and the service was excellent! I am so happy I found this and they will be seeing a lot of me from now on.
Awesome food (my fave is breakfast and their Greek poutine - there are lots of other poutines I can't wait to try!), great service and love the retro atmosphere!
Been here several times now and I just know that I'll become a regular. The food is homemade and fresh, they service is very friendly and attentive and the portions are HUGE. If you're a light eater, you could easily split a dish with someone.
The first time here, I had an omelette and it was jam-packed with fresh ingredients and had to be 3 or 4 eggs.
No fuss food, with a diner atmosphere and really friendly staff.
Wonderful meatloaf with egg benedict. The french toast had cinnamon for extra flavour. All in all, a good meal. :-)
I decided to try new dishes: Pork Schnitzel and Macedonian Salad. The pork schnitzel was overcooked (dry and tough). In addition, it needs to be marinated for extra flavour. The Macedonian salad was excellent. A tad salty from the feta cheese.
We had an excellent breakfast here. The price is unbelievable, and everything was delicious. They have some unique menu items(meatloaf eggs Benedict?!), and lots of options loaded with veggies. Our server was really sweet as well. Would absolutely go again on out next visit to Toronto.
I'm so disappointed.. That I never tried this place sooner. I love diners like this - so much character. Places like this make you feel like you're eating a home cooked meal, made from scratch. I love that they don't skimp on portions or things like the amount of olives on my Greek salad. Service was above and beyond. Normally I can't stand when a girl younger than me calls me 'sweetie' or for us 'lovelies' but not the case with our server, Gray. Charming, professional and friendly and very efficient - she can call us whatever she likes, lol.
An added shout out to this place - they are commissioned by Saint Luke's United Church across the street to provide the meals that are handed out twice a week as part of their meal program. It feeds people at Allan Gardens and others in the area. All the more reason Chew Chews deserves kudos and support from the community! Already looking forward to going back!
An unassuming, yet bustling diner that I regret I have not discovered sooner. Eating here in the atmosphere of the well visited restaurant makes me feel nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born yet. And the price! Super affordable, too, as a proper diner should be, not charging 20 bucks for a short stack of pancake.
Service looks to be reasonably speedy and the employees are cheery and friendly, but my order was a bit slow, probably because I am a weirdo and ordered a meatloaf (instead of anything normal like egg benedict and burger) and a strawberry milkshake.
Classic baked meatloaf out of a 50s diner with boiled (certainly does not taste like steamed, but would benefit hugely from it) cauliflower, broccoli and carrot, and enough home fries to feed a small family, all covered in thick gloopy gravy. Portion size is enormous, I could probably plant my face in it with room to spare, and my pulse shot up to above 100bpm while eating it.
I feel like I could just go home and clonk out from the massive food coma creeping up my spine. The milkshake didn't help.
Oh, tea and coffee seems to be free, too.
10/10 would recommend.
Amazing food/service/atmosphere. My group of 7 was sat immediately without reservations. The food was incredible and was served with a smile. All aboard the best diner in town.
