Ate there last night and ordered the Roast Beef dinner plate and wow was it good. the beef was so tender and delish. the staff were so kind and friendly. The waitress went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and well looked after. I will go there any time I am in the area and in search of some great food.
The food is delicious, the portions are huge and the staff are kind and efficient. It's my go-to breakfast spot!
Amazing service.
Great for these 2 dishes - The Spanish Omelette lovely, flavorful, great veggies, so fluffy!! Rye toast was good, potato hash was great. MM
The Eggs Benedict with the hollandaise was perfect, the potato hash was good too. Beautifully cooked poached eggs. Fresh caramelized mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes.
Orange juice freshly squeezed tasted like , it was so good!
Thank you! Lovely to go to place for breakfast/brunch.
Always good food and fast service...feel like your at home and just have visitor's...yes..comfy...i recommend people to check it out when visiting da city...
Loved the food and the service... great brunch spot! Had the St. Patrick which was to die for. Be back soon!
Love going here for brunch. Great food, great price, great service. Excellent diner. Go!
Best traditional diner. Great portions very fresh food and awesome owner Alex Adiev
I feel like I am on a train going to the northwest passage between China and Russia. Except I am eating pancakes with chocolate chips, bananas and drinking coffee and listening to Q107. Besides that, it is exactly like the Beijing to Moscow train.
Breakfast with a friend
Real good food
The server was great
Very clean
And parking
Price was great
Best Breakfast place I know!
Great service, owners are awesome at what they do.
Thanks again Alex!
Great place, Great food, we go almost every Sunday for breakfast.
The place can be totally packed and Russ & Angelo have everything under control.
Amazing service and delicious food!!! Definitely will be going back! :)
My favorite place to eat in all of Toronto this is why I'm happy I live in Cabbagetown
Sooooo good! A hidden gem! Our server was super friendly and accommodating, (especially since we had a whiny kid with us). Had the Scala Eggs Benny and my hubby had the regular Eggs Benny. You get 4 eggs! HUGE portions! Probably the best eggs Benny I’ve ever had. We were going to order the regular pancakes for our kids and our server advised against and to just get side orders...which was the perfect size!! Highly recommended! Yumm.
Chew Chew's at College and Sherbourne with its full lounge seats is a great diner with its signature all day breakfast as well as classic fare served by friendly staff. It is easy to become a regular here!
I just discovered Chew Chew's and it is just wonderful. I've been looking for a diner like this for years and I'm very happy I found it. I want to try most of their food but I started with Halibut fish and chips (also first time I've seen Halibut in years). It was just perfect, cooked just right, enough fries for 5 people and the service was excellent! I am so happy I found this and they will be seeing a lot of me from now on.
Awesome food (my fave is breakfast and their Greek poutine - there are lots of other poutines I can't wait to try!), great service and love the retro atmosphere!
Been here several times now and I just know that I'll become a regular. The food is homemade and fresh, they service is very friendly and attentive and the portions are HUGE. If you're a light eater, you could easily split a dish with someone.
The first time here, I had an omelette and it was jam-packed with fresh ingredients and had to be 3 or 4 eggs.
No fuss food, with a diner atmosphere and really friendly staff.
Great food, good quality, friendly service. Air conditioned, reasonably priced. Recommended to anyone in the area at anytime of day (especially for breakfast).
This place can get busy on a weekend. During the week, no problem getting a table. I had the eggs benedict. Great portion. Delicious hollandaise sauce. Reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this place for your breakfast or brunch.
Talk about an old fashion diner. Great breakfast and the service is hit and miss. Very busy, so be patient. The eggs Benedict are perfection on a plate.
Chew Chews offers a no-frills diner experience with filling meals made remarkably fast. The banana pancakes were large and tasty. I'll be back.
Punx. They were cool with us eating there even though we're dirty punk rockers. most places aren't, so they get +10 punk points
Awesome breakfast, great staff. This is just a great place. The staff there is super nice and good at their jobs. The breakfast was a solid diner breakfast and the quality was great too.
It's really reasonably priced, especially compared to almost every other brunch place in Toronto that thinks $10 - $13 for eggs is appropriate.
If you're near this area definitely give it a try.
They always have a large daily special list, but come for the all day breakfast! Their omelets are huge and their home fries are fantastic! If you are have regular fries in your order, consider making the switch, you won't be disappointed.
Staple Breakfast Joint. This place is AWESOME! When you can find a place that is this reliable it really is something great. I used to live a stone's throw from Chew Chew's and that's how we found it. On our 3rd visit our server already knew our order (even the substitutions). We continue to try to make it at least once a weekend even though we moved 5kms away. MUCH MUCH BETTER FOOD AND EXPERIENCE than The Counter on Bathurst (which is our closest breakfast joint now).
Food was great. I had steak and eggs. The home fries was the best. Generous portions and service was great.
Great food, open 8am to 8pm everyday. Good quality food.
Try it !. Quite possibly the best country fried steak this side of the American/Canadian border.
Low frills diner approach but clean overall and attentive service.
Licensed for spirits, wine and beer also.
Great value for little price.
The giant mural of a train on the side of the restaurant is sure to get a few groans along with the ironic name of the diner, but if you actually step inside the front door, you’ll quickly see that this bustling little diner’s train theme actually works q
Wonderful meatloaf with egg benedict. The french toast had cinnamon for extra flavour. All in all, a good meal. :-)
I decided to try new dishes: Pork Schnitzel and Macedonian Salad. The pork schnitzel was overcooked (dry and tough). In addition, it needs to be marinated for extra flavour. The Macedonian salad was excellent. A tad salty from the feta cheese.
We had an excellent breakfast here. The price is unbelievable, and everything was delicious. They have some unique menu items(meatloaf eggs Benedict?!), and lots of options loaded with veggies. Our server was really sweet as well. Would absolutely go again on out next visit to Toronto.
I'm so disappointed.. That I never tried this place sooner. I love diners like this - so much character. Places like this make you feel like you're eating a home cooked meal, made from scratch. I love that they don't skimp on portions or things like the amount of olives on my Greek salad. Service was above and beyond. Normally I can't stand when a girl younger than me calls me 'sweetie' or for us 'lovelies' but not the case with our server, Gray. Charming, professional and friendly and very efficient - she can call us whatever she likes, lol.
An added shout out to this place - they are commissioned by Saint Luke's United Church across the street to provide the meals that are handed out twice a week as part of their meal program. It feeds people at Allan Gardens and others in the area. All the more reason Chew Chews deserves kudos and support from the community! Already looking forward to going back!
An unassuming, yet bustling diner that I regret I have not discovered sooner. Eating here in the atmosphere of the well visited restaurant makes me feel nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born yet. And the price! Super affordable, too, as a proper diner should be, not charging 20 bucks for a short stack of pancake.
Service looks to be reasonably speedy and the employees are cheery and friendly, but my order was a bit slow, probably because I am a weirdo and ordered a meatloaf (instead of anything normal like egg benedict and burger) and a strawberry milkshake.
Classic baked meatloaf out of a 50s diner with boiled (certainly does not taste like steamed, but would benefit hugely from it) cauliflower, broccoli and carrot, and enough home fries to feed a small family, all covered in thick gloopy gravy. Portion size is enormous, I could probably plant my face in it with room to spare, and my pulse shot up to above 100bpm while eating it.
I feel like I could just go home and clonk out from the massive food coma creeping up my spine. The milkshake didn't help.
Oh, tea and coffee seems to be free, too.
10/10 would recommend.
Amazing food/service/atmosphere. My group of 7 was sat immediately without reservations. The food was incredible and was served with a smile. All aboard the best diner in town.
Chew Chew!
Went on a very busy sunday, were seated in less than 10 minutes. Staff was attentive enough even with all of the bustle. The food was good, the menu is huge. I had no idea hollandaise went with so many things. Portions were perfect!
Omg great place I love that it's just down the street from one of the buildings I look after. Shout out to the restaurant being in the background of the show "The Boys". Great service I felt very welcomed once I entered and I was very satisfied with the serving and meal itself.
