Good food, good service - very reliable
We went to Fune for dinner. The service was welcoming and we were quickly shown to a table. We shared a sushi pizza - always a favourite and nicely made. The spicy salmon roll was good, but could have used a bit more heat. The sashimi was also good. Overall, they took good care of us and were efficient at bringing the bill at the end of our dinner. We’ll go back!
This was definitely the most fun I’ve had in a sushi restaurant in recent memory! Fune Japanese Restaurant is currently the only Japanese restaurant in Toronto that offers “conveyor belt” sushi. What’s more, their conveyor belt sushi is even more unique than the regular ones on a track because these were boats of sushi floating on water around a sushi bar!
Thoughtfully prepared dishes in an elegant setting at surprisingly reasonable prices. Most striking feature is the rotating conveyer belt carrying dishes of sushi, sashimi and maki--a feature typical in other cities, but rare in Toronto's downtown core. The circling parade presents a great option if you want to try something new, as most of the dishes on the conveyer belt aren't your standard California roll/salmon sushi. Really enjoyed their scallop maki topped with roe--a delight of cream and salt. Everything prepared thoughtfully and fresh. Often slammed at lunch; reservations not a bad idea.
Went last night, booked two seats at the boats and the experience was fantastic. My sushi lover boyfriend like each of the six plates he tried. They keep the plates on the boats very fresh and it's such a fun yet relaxing dimmed atmosphere. Was worth the $40 price tag at least every once in awhile. Staff is very nice too.
Must try the Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) from the appetizer menu.
Avoid the deep fried dishes, such as the Tempura and the Pork Katsu Don/Udon/Soba.
Great for lunch. This place is great for a nice office lunch. Had a great time - make sure you make a reservation because it can get pretty busy.
Fresh. The food is fresh and good! I would give this place 4 stars because the food is delicious and it is authentic food. If you won't eat there and you want to take it home though, you should try it. Good stuff.
Sushi lovers' paradise. This is a good place for sushi lovers. I especially liked the sushi bar. It has a round table with a rotating belt full of all kinds of sushi rolls. This way you can look and choose the dish you want to eat. At the end of you meal, the server counts your plates and charges you accordingly. Ambience is quite nice too. Has very friendly staff. The chefs at the sushi bar interact with you and can prepare your customized sushi roll on request. I paid 27 CAD for my dinner portion. Slightly expensive but worth the experience.
Expensive, but I loved the atmosphere. We had steak and it was absolutely amazing, medium rare to a tee.
Five Stars. Every time I go there I impressed the food is always delicious the atmosphere is quiet but active and then you get the bill.....really that's it???? Always a great experience.
Came here for my birthday, was not disappointed! We particularly love the scallops and their salmon here, melts in your mouth, feels really fresh and taste quite a bit nicer than your average sushi place. And of course with great quality and service comes a greater price tag, more on the pricier side, but not outrageously expensive. We sat on the floating sushi boat bar, and the quality of the sushi is still very good, despite not being made right out from the kitchen, still tasted fresh. Also tried the Udon and wasn’t disappointed, the broth especially smells really nice.
Would definitely come back on special occasions!
Quite an expensive place. But it’s a fun experience to sit around a turning table full of boats on water carrying sushi. They also have a menu where you can order more expensive items like the fatty tuna. The fatty tuna sushi is quite nice, but the sashimi is not that fat. Meaning it’s a lower quality cut of the tuna.
The service and quality of the food we received was great. It was a little on the pricier side but worth it. The experience was great especially seeing their rotating sushi boat system.
I would highly recommend this place if you want fast service and quality food.
Fresh sushi, very nice staff, great atmosphere
Went here with my entire department for lunch as a farewell lunch. The service was swift and efficient for a large group with limited timing. The lunch prices are amazing, I felt we got amazing value which included a free soup, salad and tea. I thought the food was delicious and everyone loved it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will be back for a personal visit soon.
Fun experience with decent sushi but lacking in that wow factor for the price. You are paying a premium for the experience of having one of, if not, the only conveyor belt boat sushi restaurant experiences in Toronto. Service was satisfactory and attentive but expected for the price. Sushi variety was average with some exotic options and a range of drink and sake selections at all price points. Each plate is between $4.50 to $8.50 for two pieces, on average. Higher priced items like uni are also available. The uni was tasty enough but not from Japanese waters. I would return annually for the floating boat (Fune) experience, not for the price or quality of fish.
