Asian Legend is a chain of chinese restaurants that specialize in northern Chinese cuisine. This was my first time at this particular location. We went there during the holidays and it was jam packed so I knew that the food had to be pretty good. We got to our table eventually and ordered hot and sour soup which was delicious to start off and was actually pretty spicy. The xiao long bao was pretty good too although not the best. We also had fried rice noodles with beef, seafood fried rice and bok choy with enoki mushrooms and everything was served hot, fresh and plentiful. The service was a bit slow but reasonable as they were very busy at the time. All in all, I cannot complain and I would gladly return to try the other dishes.

We were in the mood for Asian food for dinner on the holiday Monday, and we had not tried this Asian Legend location yet. The restaurant was more than half full, and we were promptly seated. When we were ready to order, we got a server's attention. Then things got a bit slower. I'm not sure if they were a bit understaffed for the holiday.

We started with their small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup, which was enough for two very full smaller bowls for each of us. A little bit of hot, a little bit of sour, and lots of good stuff in the soup, including chicken, mushrooms, and tofu.

As we finished our soup, our Sauteed Beef with Mushrooms on a Sizzling Hot Plate showed up. Tender beef, and an interesting variety of tasty mushrooms. There were at least four different types, but I don't know the names. I just know we enjoyed the dish. We had almost half of our plate finished (at a leisurely pace) before the our second plate and steamed rice arrived.

Our second dish was Kung Pao Chicken. This was probably the spiciest version that SWMBO and I have had. There were quite a few chili peppers that were roasted and cut into big pieces and many tiny pieces. It was good, but it did bring a glow to our brows.

When we were done, it took a few minutes to get someone's attention, so that we could get our bill and pay.

The restaurant mainly served Northern Chinese cuisine with several Cantonese exceptions. Possibly only two members of the party possessed a solid enough spice tolerance to order the chili-based dishes, so we stuck to milder dishes for the most part.

Green-tinted xiao long baos were my first pick. The soup dumplings were executed properly in all aspects: size, flavour, quantity of filling, soup to filling ratio, etc. The small, golf-ball sized dumplings were undeniably one of my favourite dishes of the evening - a runner-up to the delectable Fish Fillet in Sweet & Sour Sauce. (Authentic sweet and sour fish is difficult to locate back home, so I was more than ecstatic to find a flavourful, crisp variation of the dish, even if the presentation was slightly lacking.)

Are They Really On Par with Buddha, Ahura Mazda, Dragons, Sun Tzu, Musashi Miyamoto And Krishna?. E: I have been to this location of Asian Legend several times. It was time to write a few words about the food and related qualities of the restaurant.
The menu is long and wide – which Chinese restaurant’s isn’t? – and seems to only be missing congee and stinky tofu.
Let’s see, I have enjoyed the Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and it is good. It is not as good as Ding Tai Fung’s, but the dumplings are better than a chain’s should be by all rights. Menu item number three is 6 for $6. Menu item number seven is the Shiu Mai priced the same as the steamed soup dumplings and as delicious. It seems to be lacking roe on top, but the filling of shrimp is really well done. The Shiu Mai is easy on the tongue being both delicious and thinly wrapped. Temperature-wise the dumplings are served very warm. They are not too hot and never cold. A small Hot And Sour Soup is likely enough for two people. The bowl included shredded chicken costs $5. One can taste both the vinegar and the chili peppers. Not every hot and sour soup in the city is hot or sour. Asian Legend’s is.
The Home Style Fried Tofu With BBQ Pork On Sizzling Hot Plate is $12 and only middling. It is largely tasty, but the plate is barely sizzling and the little pork that there is on it is thinly sliced and plastered on top almost as a cover. With eighty percent of the dish being tofu it is a little disappointing that they are so soft and mushy. The tofu needs to be ingested quickly; otherwise the soft tofu is overwhelmed by its sauce and moisture, becomes soggy and then it should be eaten fast or the sauce overwhelms the soft tofu and then... good luck!
It looks like I have not ordered from the Chef's Recommendations Menu. The items featured seem to be higher priced items either way.
Having had several others dishes over multiple meals at Asian Legend it is easy to like the restaurant.

A: One modern Chinese restaurant looks like the other. As someone said, it looks like the same interior decoration crew is travelling from Asian restaurant to Asian restaurant upgrading and transforming the interiors. The stylish dark wood and large windows are standard. A kitchen glass gives some transparency to the cooking and food preparation.
On my last visit the restaurant seemed not busy to start, but soon became so and the traditional clang of Asian Legend took its rightful place.
The washrooms are dingy, but clean-ish.
The view outside is a mass of cars filling a parking lot.
-
T: While parking might be difficult to find it is never impossible. Aside from the main parking lot one can drive past the restaurants and down the ramp for additional space.
The host and the waitstaff react quickly and the food arrives in reasonable time. Water refill is also prompt. Getting the bill might be a little bit of a bother, but it is barely a transgression.
-
S: The staff at Asian Legend are prompt and polite. One can easily recommend the restaurants on this basis. Chinese restaurants are never going to develop a high-end service reputation as a whole, but the chain clearly does try to orient its staff to provide friendly, prompt and attentive service. In my experience the staff usually speak a modicum of English if not be outright fluent.
Not happy with all of this? Walk five restaurants down and try.... Szechuan Legend!

[Chunky Beef with Noodles] So flavourful! Definitely a nice bowl of comfort on the onset of winter time weather. Both the beef and the noodles are so thick and soft.

Asian Legend has an unique method of making Deep Fried Bananas. They require you to order your dessert 20 minutes ahead. This is probably so then they have enough time to slowly heat the honey sugar coating properly. First, the cut banana is fried in a batter. Once the batter is done, the deep fried banana is added to the hot melted honey. Prior to serving your dessert a waiter will bring a bowl of ice water to your table. Once the banana is sufficiently covered in the hot honey, the waiter will bring out the dish with the sugar covered bananas to your table and individually place each of the sugar coated bananas into the ice water. I love Peking Duck , and fiercely so. I love that delicate, crispy skin, roasted to a glorious golden brown. I love that layer of rich, greasy fat that lingers in my mouth. I love the thinly sliced pieces of robust, flavourful duck meat. But above all, I love, love, love the combination of everything together - skin, fat, meat, sauce and spring onions -wrapped up in a perfect symphony of tastiness in my mouth.

Good Asian food for family dinner on a weekend. If you are into dim sum, dumplings, nice soup and traditional Asian dishes, you are going to enjoy this place. Service is friendly and fast. Gets crowded, book your table ahead of time. Enjoy!

My first time dining in at Asian Legend and I must say I’m very impressed with the quality of the dishes! Everything I ordered was super fresh and flavorful. You can taste the umami wok essence every time you take a bite I ordered the lunch sized sautéed eggplant as well as the kung pao chicken / beef pancake roll / dan dan peanut noodles / pan fried steam bun / & soup dumplings. The lunch size was actually very filling for the price, each lunch special comes with rice and this refreshing cucumber side dish on the side. The eggplant was so special to me because the eggplant was soft on the inside yet the outside was nice and crisp. I really have to give credit to the talent of the chef! The eggplant had this sweet yet spicy sauce worked really well with the dish. For the kung pao chicken, the chicken were perfect bite sized pieces with peppers and onions and peanuts. The chicken is tender and crisp, works well with the chill oil essence and rice. The beef pancake was really nice! I’ve never ordered this before and it was like a doughy, flaky scallion pancake with layers of beef inside with some sauce that’s similar to hoisin/peking duck sauce. Really nice as an appetizer. The dan dan peanut noodles had some fluffy egg, cucumbers, carrots, and chicken and it was such a refreshing dish! I would highly recommend. For me, the noodles are what make it so special. With a perfect texture and chew, the noodles with the peanut sauce were to die for. When I asked I was told that the noodles are made in house for every noodle dish on the menu which is so unique to me. The pan fried dumplings were nice and juicy. It seems like they were steamed and then pan fried for this really nice crust at the bottom. The dumplings come out piping hot and the pork filling inside is super moist as if they’re soup dumplings! The star of the show. Their soup dumplings, made by highly skilled dim sum chefs in the kitchen. The dumpling skins made from scratch and by hand definitely live up to the hype as they’re soft yet firm as they hold the soup very well. The soup inside is light yet rich. Pair it with some vinegar and ginger soy sauce and you have a winning combo. I would highly recommend coming to dine in at Asian Legend!! It’s affordable and the dishes I tried today were stellar! I would say that it reminds me of Chinese restaurants when I was a kid, but the flavors are much more refined due to the skills in the kitchen and the quality of the ingredients!

First time here! The service was excellent and fast. We ordered # 120 Braised beef noodle soup, the broth was clean and the beef melts in your mouth. We also got # 11 a rolled onion pancake with slice beef, the skin was crispy and flavorful. We were hungry and added #3 steamed soup filled dumpling with ground pork. They were very big soup dumplings with a lot of soup. Great place for lunch, got to come back for dinner one night. You got to eat here!

I like the food so much. Great quality food. I know they cant help the cost of everything, but one fried rice, and general tso cost $38. That is a LOT. But we still order..got pancake. Sticky rice filled with pork skin, cantonese chow mein, and some wraps with meat/veggies

Really enjoyed the crispy rice dish. Other dishes were decent. Red bean dessert was hot and sweet. Restaurant size seems to have consolidated.

I haven't eaten at the Asian Legend chain in 6 years because their menu was primarily pork and beef and I have dietary restrictions. But I was happily surprised to revisit their menu and see a whole bunch of new items added with chicken and vegetarian options. We ordered the steamed chicken dumplings, pan fried chicken dumplings, the fried rice cake noodles with pickled veggies, the slow cooked chicken noodle soup and the fried onion pancake with egg. The rice cake noodles originally came with pork but we asked them to sub it for chicken and they happily obliged. We also asked for no msg in the order and they were able to accommodate that for everything except the dumplings because the meat mixture is made beforehand (totally understandable). All the dishes were delicious! The pan fried dumplings were perfectly fried and crispy and the slow cooked chicken soup was amazing. It doesn't picture well but the broth was homey, comforting and not overly salty (I find many restaurant broths and soups tend to be overly salted). I'm so happy to see these menu updates and will cross my fingers for when they do a "soup filled chicken dumpling" aka xiao long bao but with chicken!
