Romby's Restaurant & Dining Lounge

A proud supporter of all things local and reasonably healthy menu items, Romby’s Tavern serves the usual pub fare with health conscious dishes sprinkled-in. The restaurant has called St. Catharines home for 30 years and in 2010, the Wilson family continued to run the restaurant with a few changes of their own. A shift in food and lifestyle cause a change in their menu as well. We all know when you go to a pub you want smoked meats, wings, nachos, and all the greasy foods your body can’t handle because, why not? The new owners kept those traditional items and added healthier options for those who prefer not to poison their bodies. Chef Chris gets creative with exciting and fresh flavours in his dishes.

Romby's - it's new incarnation. I have been a patron of Romby's, under various managements, for the 30 years I have lived in St. Catharines. I have always loved the cozy bar atmosphere. The newest owners are young and smart, but there have been a few bumps in the road in the inevitable struggle between the old regulars and the young crowd that they hope to attract. It seems as though things have settled down, and everyone appears to be happy. The beer is always cold and reasonably priced, and service is generally friendly with the exception of one particularly bad-tempered fellow, who I hope stays behind the scenes from now on - for everyone's sake. The food is just okay. I expected better since they began smoking and barbecuing their own meats, but I haven't been impressed by anything I've had so far. There are obviously the usual, acceptable bar foods, but the specialties ie: smoked, pulled chicken sandwich - tastes over-sauced, and beyond it's expiry date. Would really like to see an improvement there, especially because the prices aren't cheap (dropped $70 -including tip - on a lunch consisting of sandwich, fish and chips and 6 pints). I remember years ago when Rombeys used to serve a wonderful pepper steak with salad - those were the days. Anyway, I still think it's a great place, and the new management is doing some fun things that should appeal to many people. Just like to see it remain a place for all ages.
