I went with a group of 6 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The interior was clean and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly. The food was fantastic - I enjoyed the Rainbow roll. The portion was big enough to feed two of us!

Four of us went for a sushi supper on a Monday night. The three others I was with were from a different province and very novice at ordering and eating sushi so I got to shine a bit with my familiarity. My guests ordered gyoza, Japanese croquette and spring rolls for appetizers. They were good, fairly standard fare. After that we ventured into the maki rolls, ordering California (with real crab), Mexican and Dynamite first. Then Poseidon and unagi sugata. The rolls were carefully made and pretty much works of art. I found them all to be very good. Of the three guests, one found them to be fabulous, one found them to be 'interesting' and the third said the sushi did nothing for him (first timer). They ended up ordering more spring rolls and gyoza, none wanted any more croquette. The croquette were not what I expected either, there seemed to be little more than potato and corn on the inside. I've lived in Japan and the croquettes are a street food there and these didn't measure up. Overall, I would return, I found the rolls to be the best part of the meal and that's what I would order so I was pleased.

We went here tonight the food was good. The edamame was cooked perfectly loved the sea salt on it. The rolls were ok, personally didn't like the huge chunks of cucumber. The service was nice they were always checking on us. The price was a bit much for two people. I would eat here again based on the variety of rolls. If you like spicy you will like the kick on these rolls!

Went in around 730pm... small restaurant but nice decor... the waitress was nice and explained the menu to us. Order the Hibachi shrimp combo and teriyaki chicken combo... was shocked to see the portion size! My husband was not impressed about the chicken tho... not crispy... it's kinda like the chinese stir fry type of chicken.. my Hibachi shrimp is taste nothing like the japanese mayo but it's taste okay tho... overall we were given good services and huge portion of food that was fair with the prices. Will go back to try the ramen next time.

Cozy little place in St.Albert. They have a pretty decent selection to their menu so I decided to order something people don't for a quick lunch. My girlfriend ordered her classic rainbow roll which was rolled pretty nicely. I ordered their Unagi don rice bowl. Cooked to perfection and just waiting to be devoured with a spoonful of rice. All for a good price. Now I just have to come back one day for their Ramen!

My latest ramenventure had taken me to St. Albert. About 2 weeks ago, YEG finally had some rainy days so I knew that it was ramen weather time. I love ramen and all but I'm not really down for it when it's 30 degrees outside in the summertime. . When I heard that Ohana-Ya was offering ramen during lunch time (Mon to Fri; 11:30 to 2:30) around 2 months ago, I knew I had to check it out. They're a Japanese restaurant located off the main road in St Al. and they also offer the usual sashimi and sushi, too. Their lunch menu is more limited than their dinner menu, though. The restaurant is actually owned by Chinese people but the ramen was very close to authentic!

The lunch menu doesn't offer the full options of the dinner menu but is still quite good. There are a selection of bento boxes, ramen, rolls, and other items as well. The ramen bowls are huge with tons of noodles; it comes with corn, seaweed, half a tea egg and assorted meats depending on which soup you pick. I felt like there were so many noodles even though I kept eating and and eating. The pork bone soup is quite pure but a little bland, I needed to add some spice to it give it a little kick. The tan tan soup was more flavorful and quite tasty. They also offered two types of salmon sashimi; sockeye and atlantic, which were both very good. I just wish the pieces were a little bigger. The fuji roll was quite good and it came with nine pieces (It has quite a resemblance to the Fuji roll at Ichiban restaurant in Edmonton which I also like a lot). Overall the service was good, they food was decent and Iw ould come back here to try out the rest of the menu.

Ramen. Ramen. RAMEN. You know there’s going to be a new post whenever there’s new ramen in town. Let’s try and keep this short and sweet, if you want more details, check out my first post on Ohana-Ya. Five types of ramen on the menu but they are all in the $11.00-12.00 price range.

Edmonton’s ramen race has begun. There’s been an influx of ramen lately, from pop ups to storefronts and I could not ask for anything else for my hometown – ramen is my absolute favourite thing to eat. Hands down. Ohana Ya Japanese Restaurant in St. Albert is the latest to serve up ramen, an addition to their sushi centric menu. Unlike its competitor across the road with Saturday lunch-only ramen, Ohana Ya offers ramen during the weekdays for the lunch rush. Who would have thought that St. Albert would have a small ramen culture of their own!
