Stopped in for a Saturday breakfast as I hadn’t been to Kelly’s Cafe in about 3 years, nothing has changed including the delicious food!
I started with the homemade beef vegetable soup which was excellent. Then I went with the Eggs Benny which was also great! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauces as very good too along with the homemade hash browns.
I was so sad to find on the day I'm craving Eggs Benedict something crazy, Truffles is permanently closed.
I tried to think of all the places I've had a good Eggs Benedict and I couldn't come up with any other places.
I googled brunch and Kelly's came up. I decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did! I have never had eggs cooked so perfectly. And the hollandaise sauce...wow. I'm use to getting a small blob that barley covers the top of the egg. There was more than enough at Kelly's, plus extra to smother some homemade hashbrowns in. I find a lot of places use too much lemon, giving it an off-taste that leaves me wondering, is this sour from zest or has the sauce legitimately gone bad? Not the case here.
Yes, the service was slow and the place is not the cleanliest, I'll agree with everyone who mentioned that, but I've worked in a lot of kitchens and you'd be surprised how filthy they are. I could clearly see into the kitchen at Kelly's and it looked cleaner than most.
I like that I was given an entire pitcher of water and didn't have to wait for someone to refill my glass. Same idea for Smitty's and their coffee butlers.
My partner had the french toast and was pleased with the taste and serving size.
Our waitstaff was very friendly.
I will definitely be back!
Good lunch specials! We stopped through on a road trip a few days ago and had chicken fingers special and a Reuben sandwich combo. The atmosphere is very cozy, nestled just behind Early's, it can be easily missed. An older place, it doesn't look like much but has real food straight out the grill. The waitress was super nice, but I can see the place being packed and busy for one person.
I really want to try their breakfast, everyone around was having it for lunch and it looked tastier than the standard chicken fingers. Nothing was beating the Reuben though.
I liked the food it tasted great and was fairly priced. The place was full and my service was still great. It is an old place that could use some freshening but the food was good. It is a place I would return.
This place is truly one of its own! The food is amazing and the portions are unreal!! The ladies are hilarious! I definitely recommend anyone and everyone to try Kelly's at least once.
Great Homemade Breakfast - But Worth The Wait?. My boyfriend and I recently enjoyed breakfast at Kelly's Kafe on a Saturday morning. Of course, being a Saturday, it was very busy but we were lucky to get the last available table. Long story short - the food was tasty, the service sucked, and the surroundings were hilarious.
The waitresses weren't very pleasant or friendly - to me, they came across like as if they didn't want to be there or that they feel they can be rude to you just because they know you'll still return for the good food? If you can imagine a run-down diner on the side of the road in the middle of the United States, with older underpaid waitresses that don't really give a damn, that pretty much sums it up!
We waited well over an hour for our food to arrive, and when we finally received our food, it was tasty.. it tasted like a good homemade breakfast with lots of flavor that your mom could whip up for you on a weekend (eggs, toast, hashbrowns, bacon). Actually, I could whip up this breakfast myself on a Saturday morning in about 15 minutes, instead of over an hour. It was very tasty (especially the hashbrown potatoes), but nothing out-of-this-world. So, was it worth waiting over an hour for a tasty breakfast that I could definitely make myself at home in much less time? Hmm... maybe the mismatched dinnerware and the 1980's Tupperware cups made the experience worthwhile due to nostalgia?
Overall, tasty homemade food but haven't yet decided if I would return...!
Great Food for a Dive. The food here is great. The service too is great - the waitresses have spark and when paired with the mismatched plastic table cups and home-style cooking the restaurant takes on a real home-like feel.
Yes, the restaurant is quite unwelcoming from the outside. I had to take a few deep breaths before deciding to set my inhibitions aside and walked in. Glad I did - the food is sooo good. Typical greasy spoon and really laidback atmosphere. Love it!
MORE SEATS, same sized kitchen .... Most complaints seem to hover around the long wait for food. It is an even longer wait now, as the kitchen facilities have not increased in size to accommodate an even larger crowd. No complaints about the food, portion sizes, or price. If you are concerned about high fat, sodium, etc., its likely not the best place for you. The food is GEARED TOWARDS THOSE WHO LIKE TO EAT! Nothing wrong with that!! Just be prepared to wait! Impatient folks should go elsewhere. There's always a few inconsiderate people who like to hang around after eating, to sit and visit some more while others are waiting for a seat ... visit while you're waiting for your food, ... eat, ... then leave so others can come in and do the same.
Great friendly food. The eccentric staff are awesome, the food is good and decently priced, used to always go here for breakfast, unfortunately lately its been filled with hipsters instagramming their food, and now on weekends its always packed ive hadta turn around when driving there because of it, the burgers are delicious, on your choice of bun, the fries can be a bit greasey, the clubhouse is a monster of a sandwich, and when i get steak and eggs, they are one of the few places that knows how to actually cook a steak medium rare apparently
Don't Let the Atmosphere Fool You!. We tried Kelly's for the first time after reading great reviews. The food was fantastic! We had the eggs benedict and Kelly's burger. We also tried the perogy soup which was very tasty (tons of ham and veggies and served with sour cream). Everything is made from scratch and the portions are hugh. Although it's not the cleanest place around, the atmosphere is quite unique. Almost reminded me of my grandma's house when I was little kid (the decor on the walls). In addition, no cup, glass, bowl and plate are the same. As for the service, it was a bit of a wait for the food as it was quite packed at the time (45 minute wait); however, we never ran out of coffee. If you want to try yummy homemade food, go to Kelly's!
