Went here the other night for the first time after not going for a while. The place has changed owners since I last went so there were a lot of changes - some pleasant and some disappointing! They still have a good selection of drinks and good food specials. Definitely a lot more food than the old menu and it came really quickly. However, I was really sad that they don't have board games anymore. I used to love coming in, getting a few drinks, and playing board games!
Very very good food and great selection of beer. Tried the house cucumber dills; homemade and tasted great. These tasted awesome with beer a must order.
We also got the empanadas, chimichurri sauce was great and had a good amount of heat. The actual empanadas tasted great. Also ordered the going for broke pizza. Again very good. I'm not a huge fan of lamb but this was a good pizza.
The beers were on tap cold and fresh. Atmosphere was good. Music was on but at a volume you could carry on a conversation.
The only down side was it is costly. Over $60 with food, 3 beers and tip...
Service was great awesome atmosphere will head back on pay day.
The Woods is my go to spot, hands down. The atmosphere is so relaxing and makes you feel right at home (couches are my spot). Service is very quick and friendly. They have awesome trivia and open mic nights. The menu continues to develop with awesome comfort food and more. It is the freshest and tastiest craft beer spot in the city but they can also make a mean cocktail.
I'm a big fan of the pizzas but I haven't tried much of the rest of the menu. I love the beer selection. I have always found the service to be top notch - friendly servers and reasonably quick service. The ambiance is decent to good. They host lots of unique events. We went to the Woods on the night of the federal election to watch the results roll in. Give 'em a try.
I like this place for local beer which has definitely improved over time. It isn't great if you want quiet conversation because it gets quite loud. The service is excellent - the servers are friendly, helpful, and check in frequently. The food is good portions which compensates for the high prices. The tasting board is a great way to start an evening off.
Great local beer. I had the spicy Mexican themed sandwich. It was very good. To pair, I had the Nokomis Brown Ale. We are so lucky to have some great local brews get so good, so quickly
What can I say about the Woods Ale House. Lovely food, lovely beer, nice atmosphere. good service. Go on down and give them a go. Youll be glad you did.
I'm giving this a good rating as the service was phenomenal. The first waitress was thoughtful, pleasant, and when I asked for something to be removed from my order she added in extra to compensate with no additional charge. Brilliant.The food was good, the spicy chicken pizza quite well done and the Strawberry beer tart and refreshing.The cost however, was not something I was too thrilled about. $8/beer and $17/pizza was ridiculous. For local beer, the cost shouldn't be that high and the pizza wasn't large enough to justify that price. I'll pay the price for really good food, but not pub food that was good. I would go here again, but I'd eat beforehand.
Stop in for a pint. Really well done craft beer, try the black cat.UPDATE Sept 1, 2015, hadn't been here since May, and wow, Woods has sure upped it's game, great new menu, great specials, couple new, delicious beers on tap. .If you've been there before and weren't very fond, I highly suggest giving them another shot.
Filing the Gap. I was very surprised to log on today and see all of the negative reviews on The Woods. I've had nothing but good experiences with the food, and trust me, I've had A LOT of their food.
They offer a lot of things no one else in Saskatoon does. It's sad to see so much unconstructive criticism against The Woods for that reason. It's hard to find a place that serves such a variety of gluten-free and and vegetarian dishes. It's hard to find a place that is dedicated in finding new ways to entertain their costumers.
The Woods has and will always have my dedicated support. Thank-you for filing a gap in an area that Saskatoon is lacking
