Green tea frappe today with aloe vera and coconut jelly with mango sauce and condensed milk....SO GOOD. Coconut jelly was a bit sweet (they can't really do anything about it) but the green tea shaved ice wasn't too sweet with a nice subtle bitterness :)
I used to get these all the time at Aberdeen with Neko but haven’t had it in a few years. It was nice to be able to try it again. Although it’s called “shaved ice” it’s really more like “shaved icecream” because they use condensed milk as part of the basis of the “ice” resulting in a creamier texture than traditional shaved ice. Their presentation has improved from a few years ago since they used to serve it in styrofoam bowls instead of parfait cups. But this was actually a not so good thing because it also meant that it wasn’t very balanced and we actually tipped the entire thing over! We were all speechless when it happened and madly tried to salvage what we could. It was still delicious of course…but just not as visually appealing heh.
Aberdeen centre’s food court snakes around and allows over 20 different stands to have their own dedicated space. Lots of effort was put into decorating each stall. Each had its name in bold, a menu with photos, and some even a display of items served utilizing accurately portrayed plastic food. Not surprisingly, most of the writing used was Chinese characters, but the coloured photos and the glossy fake food helped to bridge the language gap. I will be covering all 20 of the foodcourt dining options across several posts.
