After an unsuccessful attempt to play beach v-ball, we decided to drown our sorrows in dessert. One buddy suggested we go for dofu fah at Excellent Tofu & Snacks. It’s located next door to Mango Mama. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:30pm). There was a constant group of people coming in for a quick dessert. The inside is very retro with an old school diner vibe to it. We sat at the counter and got to watch the two ladies work their tofu magic.
A perfect place to drop by after dinner for sweet tofu soup as light dessert. Quite conceivably a local favourite based on the number of years they’ve been in business. Possibly for cost-effective couples. What they lack in ambience they make up for in friendly service, taste and value.
Excellent Tofu & Snack 好好豆品 is a well known Chinese tofu dessert place in Richmond. It is located in a super busy and tiny plaza where parking is always a battle and a challenge.
Their tofu fa/tofu dessert 豆腐花 is silky smooth and have a very soy taste. Delicious! 😋

Best Tofu dessert ever. And one of the first in Richmond. Their tofu desserts are better quality than some in Hong Kong. Try it for yourself.
I've tried tofu desserts served on the streets of Indonesia, in the hawker centres of Singapore, dim sum and chinese restaurants in Taiwan and HK but none tastes as soft and fresh as this joint. I always love to have the hot version of tofu with evaporated milk and ginger syrup, it never fails to satisfy and my remedy when i'm under the weather! Had the tofu skin with gingko nuts its a bit too sweet. Fried tofu was just okay.
Tofu pudding is a staple in Cantonese dessert that can be served cold or hot, sweet or unsweetened, and plain or toppings. And Excellent Tofu is a no frill's looking shop serving up the best tofu dessert in the city in our opinion. In China, tofu pudding is actually served for breakfast and is topped with savoury toppings instead of sweets. They have it here as well but we have never tried it. If you're interested, it's called "Soy Pudding Shanghai Style"

Ordered the red bean with coconut tofu dessert and the black sesame tofu dessert. You can flavor to your preference with the sugar and ginger syrup they have on the table.
The place is not fancy but we come for the tofu, not the ambience. The fresh tofu is super soft and smooth - nothing like those weird tofu desserts that you get at the grocery store.
Great price for the quality of tofu. The tofu is really soft that slides down the throat so smoothly. The soy milk was really good as well. I would say the best tofu I've ever had.

I first heard about this place from my girlfriend. When you step inside it reminds me of Hong Kong right away. It's nothing fancy but right down to the point. I love their tofu desserts here and it's made fresh daily. I'm in love everytime I have a hot or cold bowl. There is quality here and I respect the skill and techniques the chefs have. I refrain from eating the store bought ones because,
1. They have heavy heavy coagulants. Your just eating more cornstarch basically. It changes the natural flavor.
2. Store bought products can be frozen when nearing their shelf life, it's true. Ever wonder why those store bought dessert tofus like sunrise go on sale 2 for 1? They just bring them out of the freezer and stamp a new date. If you do enough research you can find out alot about anything. Knowledge is power.
In the end I love this place. Clean cut natural tofu. I definitely know the difference. It's so supple, delicate, and really refreshing, because it's house made daily and fresh. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. One of my favorite places to go to for dessert.
I think of any other places at the moment to get this old school soy pudding type of desert anymore, :D so was really happy when i entered in the place and all the decorations and ambiance brings me back to an cantonese desert place. I came during the weekend i thought it's going to be packed, but apparently maybe most of the customers came in the morning, i came in the afternoon around 12 ish and it was empty, but it's good, I got everything that i wanted, pot stickers, chinese doughnut :0, and soy pudding.

and yea definitely don't forget to put the sweet ginger sauce to your soy pudding, just a little bit for me it's enough. depending on how sweet you want it to be. defintely will come back :D
I don’t actually eat a lot of Chinese tofu pudding since it’s such a mild dessert. Not that I don’t like it, it’s just not something I’ve ever craved before. However, I met this one friend who happens to be really into tofu pudding so we decided to head to Excellent Tofu and Snack for dessert.
My absolute favourite place to go for tofu dessert! The place has a great family run feel providing authentic tofu dessert products for take out or dine in. At $8 for a medium container, it was a steal to grab instead of dining in. When you dine in, it averages about $4 per bowl. I felt like I got a crazy deal when $8 for the huge container plus $4 for the ginger syrup could feed my entire family multiple times! I love this place and my only change for them is to extend their hours later into the night!
We cannot leave Richmond without trying Chinese dessert. What’s better than “Tofu Fa”, translated literally to tofu flower. It is a soft tofu in the form of dessert. Excellent Tofu & Snack is renown in the area for their made in house tofu fa. Just let me taste how much love was put in these silky tofu!
Chinese tofu dessert at its best! Here, they make their tofu in house and they offer a variety of flavors to go with it. You may eat in or buy a tub to bring it home, and remember to buy a bottle of the ginger syrup.
Yes. Yes it is excellent.. The doufufa here is the best I've had. Ever. Sooo smooth and so much variety. My fav is almond with mixed fruit. Yes, it's just canned fruit cocktail...but that's kinda comforting. And I love that it's such a dive. I love that it looks like it used to be an old school crappy diner. I love that it looks like they've made no effort to make it look other wise. I love that it's run by a bunch of surly chinese "sums." Never change Excellent Tofu! For you rock!
Legit doufuhua; instant favourite.. One more reason to not miss China while in Vancouver.
This doufuhua is homemade and legit. So smooth. So soft. Establishment is not fancy at all, but service is quick and the tofu is indeed excellent. I loved that they packed the syrup separately for my take-out order - got to taste their tofu and unsweetened black sesame paste without any sugary distractions.
HK Style Desserts. Had the Soy Pudding w/ Red Bean & Pearls (cold) and it tasted pretty good.
There was some flavoring that was available but I didn't use much of it (Didn't know what it was) so maybe I'll be more informed about it the next time I come.
Simple and good.. They serve a bunch of tofu desserts, most with some sort of topping to go with it. I got a bowl and it's like what I had when I was younger. Smooth, yet delicious. The tofu itself isn't sweet, so you have to add something if you want it to be sweet. Thankfully, they have the two syrups, but of the two, the one with ginger has to be my favourite.
Favourite Tofu Dessert Place. I love these little tofu dessert shacks and I'm so glad I found this place. I used to go to the one in the 'former' aberdeen (long ago) and another one in Chinatown, but they both closed down. I usually order the plain 'hot' tofu dessert, because the tofu is smoother when hot. Although eating it cold on a hot day is just as good, really refreshing. I love adding their homemade ginger syrup because it's so gingery and perfectly sweet. I've also tried their Black Sesame paste with tofu dessert and it was actually quite a tasty combination - definitely recommend it. I've also tried their split bean cake/pudding, which was also really yummy - good amount of coconut taste and bean bits. Other than sitting down for a dessert, I've also bought their takeout tofu dessert in containers and jugs of soy bean milk. I microwave the tofu at home and add their ginger syrup. I think the soy bean milk is okay.
Best tofu place in town. They have several types of flavours, but dessert tofu is an acquired taste. Not everyone will like it, but if you like tofu dessert, you will like this place. The tofu is made very smooth and consistent. They served it cold or hot. You can put sweeteners (simple syrup or ginger syrup) with your tofu. The place is very small. You are self seated by the counter and can watch them prepare the dessert. The price is average around $4 for a bowl. You can also have take out by volume (1, 2, and 4 litre sizes). Excellent is Right!. You either know exactly what these are or you don't. Tofu pudding is probably one of the most common sweet dish in Asia. It has always been my favorite. Where I was born, you can get tofu dessert almost anywhere. However, not all is good. Traditionally, 豆腐花 Cantonese-style tofu puddings are made in wooden barrels. The method of process can be long and intricate. Quality tofu pudding is determined by the density of its body and texture. Primarily, you should be able to easily "drink" the pudding through a thin straw (but please don't do that unless it's at a bubble tea joint) so the more filtering during the process, the silkier, better the pudding will taste.
Clockwise from the left are tofu puddings topped with taro, plain and black sesame. The plain one with ginger syrup is light and refreshing which truly allows you to savor the original texture of the pudding - my all time favorite. If you've never had tofu pudding, that should be the first to try. Black sesame is extremely aromatic and has a more compact and nutty after taste. The chunky bits of taro although add lots of flavor, they over power the delicacy of the main event. Excellent Tofu & Snacks provides the best tofu puddings in town, comparable to the ones in China. Their extensive topping menu includes red bean, green bean, tapioca, grass jelly, and peanuts served hot or cold. Having their pudding makes me reminisce my childhood days. It's comfort food to me as ice-cream is to some of you. Less calories per scoop too!

Yummy & Healthy!. They have a large variety of tofu desserts and most of them only cause $3.25.
The tofu is 100% home-made. The good thing is they didn't add any sugar into the tofu; you have to add the syrup yourself. When the warm tofu pudding comes, you can choose either plain syrup or ginger syrup; both syrups are on the table so you can add as much as you want ;)
However, their hot tofu pudding is a bit watery, so you may want to try the cold ones.
Excellent Tofu & Snack Ltd is not a fancy dessert place but their desserts (and also their food & drinks!) are definitely worth a try! :)
Yummy Tofu!. We went here after yummy food at #9 restaurant for some dessert. We've had cravings for tofu dessert, so this was apparently the place to be. There were 8 of us, so we were a bit too big for the place, but they were very efficient at accomodating us. I had the taro tofu cold, and it was pretty delicious, my only complaint is that it's too small of a bowl.

Some people hail it as having the best do fu hua (tofu pudding) on the West Coast. Does it live up to the hype? Read on foodies! Red Bean & Coconut Soy Pudding 4/5 stars The portion was rather small for $4.50 but I still enjoyed it immensely! It definitely lived up to the hype! The do fu hua was indeed the best I've tried in the lower mainland. It was silky smooth, and not choppy/mushy like other stores. The red bean was mildly sweet, and the coconut milk wasn't too heavy and complimented the tofu very well. One complaint though: I ordered mine hot, but it turned out to be a weird hybrid of lukewarm/cold in different areas of the bowl. However, that didn't distract from the overall taste. They have ginger syrup, regular syrup, and brown sugar on the tables for you to put into your tofu pudding. For me the perfect combination is a bit of all three. The ginger syrup isn’t too gingery for those of you who can’t handle that spice. This place also sells soy milk and some other Asian snacks too!
This was a real treat – silky smooth tofu with black sesame dessert. You control the sweetness by adding as much (or as little) syrup provided in a squirt bottle on the table.
Back in the day, I used to always eat tofu-fa whenever I visited Chinatown with my dad. So just like old times, I ordered the Plain Hot Soy Pudding ($3.5).
Overall, this is a great place to have some dessert. The Soy Pudding with Peanuts was a bit bland for our taste, but my Soy Pudding with Red Bean and Coconut Milk was delicious and I’m sure if we come back to Richmond we would definitely hit this place up. The location was really convenient for us since it was just a 3 minute walk from our hotel and because we went late at night, we did notice parking spaces available in the parking lot but I’m sure parking in the day would be difficult. I don’t remember if they had an interact machine there, but given that the bowls were about $4.00 each I would suggest to bring cash anyhow.
I got the plain hot tofu pudding ($4) because I was quite full from dinner. The hot version is much more smoother and softer than the cold version. Not that the cold version isn't soft, but I think by not chilling it, it retains it's original smoothness. Even though you can buy a whole bucket of this from the store (which is also quite soft), there is nothing like a bowl of fresh warm tofu pudding here.
Excellent Tofu and Snack LTD. looks pretty sketchy from the outside but they make some amazing tofu dessert.
