Review Chengdu Spicy Restaurant - Richmond

Andrew Mardjuki
Honestly, i didnt expect it to be this good. Finally, i was able to try chengdu food woohooo. Well i got to try the cold chicken, the mapo tofu and the chinese marbled pork. They were all equally good and didnt expect them to be better than 4 star mannn cant really trust reviews these days. A lot of reviews are unreliable somehow. Anyway this is recommended from me. Cheers! I hope this feedback helps!

The food is very flavourful but most of it has the same/similar taste, so after a while they all start to taste the same. The food is no doubt oily, that’s why it’s flavourful! Spicy throughout d though. My personal favourite is the house special dumplings. Can’t find them anywhere else. The service is minimal. Doesn’t accept credit card user $50

If you like real SICHUAN spice food, the restaurant should not be missed. It's better than the next store Miss FU that provides the SHANGHAI style spice food . Maybe missFu lived in SICHUAN for a short term.

Good noodles and Their spicy beef tenderloin was also really good. The kind of spicy they have is the numbing kind so it’s quite interesting. They undercooked our dumplings once but that was the only bad thing after eating here three times. But their service not good enough!

As someone from Chengdu I would say this is the best Sichuan restaurant in town. It is as authentic as any good street restaurant in my hometown, nothing altered, nothing toned down!

The food was quite tasty, but I found the soup for the noodles a bit bland and the chicken chilli has too much bones on the meat, but other wise quite a decent standard Sichuan style meal.

Massive menu, tons of selection if you like spice (if not what are you doing here?), the smell is heavenly the second you walk in the door, and Im always surprised at how inexpensive it is. Maybe they give discounts for in-store take-out or something? I dont know. I always show up in store and order take-out though. I can generally order from here after any of the neighboring stores for take out, and this one will be ready first. My only gripe is there was this amazing pork belly dish I cant find anymore, I think it got replaced during covid with some cold preserved pork belly dish which is good but not the same =(

Great foods and probably the cheapest price in Richmond. The owner told me she insisted not rise up the price because she don’t want to make her loyalty customers disappointed. That’s was impressive.

I went to go their restaurant to have a dinner on friday night, i was parked at their parking spot, and i was sitting in the car and waiting for my friend, and the waitress so rude and yell at me in chinese said I can't park there, but the sign said customer parking, i told her in english said i m going to eat at their restaurant, she kicks me out of the spot because she wants to let the other car in, that's ridiculous, im a customer too, why i can't park there and let the other car in, ends up i go to other restaurant to have my dinner, not recommended, very rude just because of the parking spot.

My husband and I had dinner last night at this restaurant. As someone who grew up in Sichuan, I thought the dishes were decent but nothing exceptional. Service was okay too. Yet one strange thing I noticed was that all the dishes were served very quickly. I suspect that it's because the dishes were pre-cooked, then microwaved for serving.

Later during the night, the unfortunate thing happened. We both had diarrhea. I had to wake up twice at night to use the washroom. Definitely won't return again.

If you know anything about Sichuan food, this is a great place to eat. Their hot pot (Hou Gou) correctly balances la jiao (chilli pepper) with Hua jiao (wild pepper, paralyzes certain parts of the tongue). The dumpling wrappers have the equivalent of an Italian 'al dente' chew and the sauce is correctly spiced by Chengdu standards. The same for the dan-dan mean (noodles), a dish with peanut sauce and spinach or other leafy vegetable. The language skills in English are minimal and the service so-so but that should not get in the way of a great meal. Just be patient. Chengdu people are famous for a laid back style, maybe even a little abrupt. So What? Ya wanna eat and be satisfied with with taste that will linger for the rest of the day or night? This is the place for that.

This is my first review. I don't like to complain but the waitress here is very very rude. I will never come here ever again. I called and order food today and heard her yelling at a customer for not paying tips. When I wanted to place an order and inquire about their dishes she yelled and said she is really busy. I am not sure about other employees but this lady has no service at all and the most impolite waitress I have ever encountered.

we ordered a tofu pork dish that was the worst tasting thing ever, it was sour and salty, so salty to a level that you cannot swallow it. we only tasted a bite each, 2 bites in total. the restaurant was very mean to us and refuse to remake or return it. I ended up having diarrhea the whole night, apparently the dish has this funky taste because it turned bad and they will serve it to us

We are three out-of-towners staying for a weekend on Eat Street so we thought we would try this new (to us) Sichuan place for a late lunch. The wait person was very helpful in helping us understand the menu. There were four cold chicken dishes so we asked her for the most popular an she recommended the "Chilled Mouth Watering Chicken," so we went with that. We confirmed that the "Twice Cooked Pork with Cabbages" was pork belly. For a veg we ordered the "Eggplants in Chili Garlic Sauce." We also ordered the Tan-Tan dumplings. Our food came out with surprising speed. Our favorite was the pork which was made with garlic stems, not cabbage as advertised. But that was a plus in our book. The chicken was good, but a little boney. The eggplant dish was just average. The dumplings were very spicy and intensely flavored — maybe a little too much so. Overall it was a fine Sichuan meal, and reasonably priced. There were some specials on a card at our table, but only in Chinese. There are probably some real gems to be had here if you were to be able to come back a few times and get deeper into the menu.

We wanted to check out the new restaurant which took over Hollywood Steak House but the parking lot was full. So, we went over to Alexandra Road as plan B. We turned in to the parking lot where Old Buddies Seafood Restaurant is and the only parking spot left was reserved to Chengdu Spicy Restaurant. Chengdu Spicy Restaurant’s predecessor was Cheung’s Chiu Chow Restaurant. The interior looks the same except the wall was decorated with posters of Chengdu dishes.
