Review Lido Restaurant - Richmond

This place gets really busy so if you don't want to wait long you'll want to make sure to go early if you have a big group. This place reminds me of little cafes in Hong Kong. They have fresh pineapple bun that comes out often.

I’m not sure how Lido only has 3.6* at the time of writing. Whenever I crave Hong Kong food (lived there for 17 years), Lido is the first place that comes to mind. The pineapple bun is SO good, as is the congee. The vibe is as if you’re at a chachaanteng, they even play TVB Pearl in the background. Love it.

HK style café that is always busy. We were there at 8:30 am on a weekday and there was already a line up to get in. The food was good, but no better than any other similar cafés. Service is pretty horrible, due to the fact that they are very busy. We literally had to grab a waitress as she walked by just to put our order in and the food took a while to arrive. Parking is very limited and they are also cash only. Menu is only in Chinese.

As a Hong Konger , this is absolutely disappointing . Each person waited for a table on a list. However there was an Asian woman went inside , and told the male manager ( the man standing at the cashier )she want a table, and he ignored the people in front of them on the list. Basically the woman skipped the line, and seized the table that others were waiting in line for. The male manager skipped those in front of the queue once more and gave another set of six people behind us who had just arrived because there was a desk for six. He may have gone in the order of the line instead. We ordered egg tarts and pineapple buns. The pineapple bun was a complete letdown; it appeared to been “stepped “on . I enjoy eating pineapple buns, but this one left me quite disappointed. Egg tarts tasted good. But was unwilling to return.

Just like most of the people had stated here, service is not the best but the food is good. Butter pineapple bun is my most favorite, highly recommended that.

Certainly a place hk people go for the nostalgic charm. Expect delicious and yummy, yet greasy food with ok service. Conveniently located right by aberdeen centre This place closes early so don’t expect to come here for dinner.

The service has gotten a lot better compared to few years ago. Food is served quick because they try to kick you out as fast as possible so that they’ll have high table turnover. The place is definitely overpriced for most of the items. However, the pineapple bun is still pretty good and fresh, we’ll come back for it.

Ate here twice and was happy both times, service is friendly and food is fast!

Classic Hong King style cafe with a huge menu. Best known for their premium priced oven fresh 'bor lor bao' (pineapple buns). Consistency beginning to waver and prices continue an upward trajectory. I go there pretty much for nostalgia now. Ingredients in the tang tsai juk (seafood) congee is questionable; such as cooked western ham juliennes. Ambience is noisy and service is efficient, but one needs to be assertive to get attention.

It's a real hk cafe, of course service is bad! But the pineapple bun and egg tarts are the best here!!

Just the hong kong style tea is good service no good food no good

It's bad enough waiting 3 pans for my wife's pineapple bun and then have the wrong order. I had the steak set and had diarrhea for a week. Who knows how hygienic the kitchen is. No thank you.

Used to be great. Now, the price is ridiculous ($1.75 to switch to cold beverage??? are their ice made from Perrier???). Their night time dishes are expensive and yet the portions weren't that large. The worst is the MSG level is way more than what a usual restaurant should have. Don't go!

Used to be reasonable value for the money but not anymore. Have been going to this restaurant for the past 7 years each time we visit Richmond. Food was good and still is. However, the price has been going up steadily year after year and much more so in the past 3 years. For the taste of the food, IMHO it is not representative of good value for everyday HK food for the commoners. They are always busy and have a long queue which is indicative of the good tasting food. Upkeep and update of the restaurant are not obvious indicative of lack of reinvesting into the restaurant for better eating experience. Again, value for the money. Probably this is the last time we eat there. Sad to have one less value-choice cuisine meant for the commoners in HK in taste and value.

The pineapple bun is 100% Hong Kong styled and even better. Of course the price here is higher than the one in Hong Kong. It is worth to enjoy one in Lido with 100% good quality.

I can see lots of hk people (both residents and tourists) gather and enjoy the home taste here. And now more and more people from mainland China.

The breakfast menu & products are more attractive for me. And now they Service prune apple bun till late night. A good news for me! 😄

• I heard about their famous pineapple bun so I decided to give it a try
• first, parking is impossible to find if you come after 0900, so be very patient and be nice
• Unfortunately I ordered the pineapple bun to go; it was just ok, nothing really special about it. I’m not even sure if it really has pineapple in it. From what I’ve dissected, it is just a bun topped with some yellow food coloring crumb?
• the place is busy and packed; hopefully one time I hope to get a seat and try the other dishes

Lido Restaurant 麗都 is located on a very small and heavy traffic plaza in Richmond. It is next to Aberdeen Centre. It is a very classic Chinese restaurant which has menu on Chinese. It also accepts CASH $ ONLY like many restaurants in Richmond.

Those who have been in this Hong Kong style cafe 茶餐廳 know about their fresh and tasty pineapple bun. 🍍🍞 Try to order your pineapple buns early or else you will have to wait for 20 minutes. Each fresh batch gets spoken for pretty quickly!

It is the best comfort food in town! Highly recommend for pairing the pineapple bun with HK Style Milk Tea. ☕️

Food: 🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽Must Try!
Service: 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳
Price: 💲$20-$30 for two
Presentation: 📷
Parking: 🚗🚗
Would I Return: Yes 🙋
Explore the menu: Pineapple Bun 菠蘿包, HK Style Milk Tea

Right nearby Aberdeen mall, one of the restaurants you can go for breakfast. Busy mall area but has several parking slots. Quick hong kong cafe style meals. Pineapple buns and egg tarts are freshly made to order.

Our food is served pretty fast, the pineapple buns and milk tea are just as good as everyone says. There was one girl who’s super sweet and explained the menu to us, the rest of them looked at us like we just burnt their house down or something. We wanted to tip the girl who took our order but a lady came and grabbed everything and then returned the tips to us? Needless to say we were confused as hell. I would suggest bringing someone who’s fluent in Cantonese for less confusion.
This place is like organized chaos! I'm not sure how the servers keep track of all the orders and bills. It's very busy with a constant turn around. The pineapple bun was really good! Nice chew and yet so fluffy and light! I regret not eating one with a slab of butter! The scrambled eggs and hot dog were standard. The macaroni soup with ham was on the salty side although I was surprised to find the macaroni al dente and not overcooked. The milk tea was strong and not too milky, however was disappointed to see them microwave it to make it hot. Bring cash!

Popular HK style cafe in Richmond, came in and tried their infamous pineapple bun which I thought tasted quite average. I think my expectations were set high given this cafe's popularity for it and had expected them to be as good as the ones in HK but the top crust was too soft for my liking. I also tried their cold double skin milk dessert (雙皮奶) which is my favourite but unfortunately felt ill soon afterwards which I suspect is due to it not being stored correctly.

Wouldn't go here not everybody reads Chinese ! Wasted time in line for a restaurant one sided! Please have English menus as well make it easy to order! I love Chinese food but not a complicated menu you can't read!
Karen
Busy busy place! We came on a late Saturday afternoon and still had to wait about 30 mins in line. There's not much English written on the menus so you might want to bring a Chinese-literate friend.

Pineapple bun + butter: served fresh and hot -- melts the butter perfectly and it was as delicious as people say. 😋

Egg tart: solid great tasting, similar to those found in Hong Kong.

BBQ duck noodle soup was surprisingly good too since I didn't know what to expect. I was thinking since it's in Richmond, their BBQ meat selection should be high quality -- and it was!

Milk tea: 👍👍 Smooth, non-acidic goodness with no strange after taste. I loved it 😋😋 I barely had to add any sugar.

Service: Standard and quite fast!

I can't wait to come back again soon 😊

I don't know what the heck the menu says but what I DO know, is that the pineapple butter buns are the bomb.com . I would drive from Burnaby to Richmond for these !

Was interested in trying out the large buns that they're known for. Sadly, I was disappointed. The top crust was good, but the bread tasted like a bland piece of white bread. There was no hint of sweetness to it. Also ordered a HK style milk tea and shared a soup with some family. I don't know if...

Great food, decent price. Be patient to wait for seat. We went there on Saturday at 1pm and we wait almost 25 mins. Totally worth we get to taste the best pineapple bun of Vancouver.

went here on a weekdays journey for dinner, and the last time i was trying to get here it wasn't openned but now it's so it's time to tried it out, ordered the humongous, like really big clay pot rice with 2 toppings, a cantonese pasta, and a fermented bean with vegetable.

i must say the clay pot rice is definitely alright, the rice is cooked well, some cripy rice on the side, and the meat is tender and just enough flavour as well. the cantonese pasta is okay but will rather try other items next time and the fermented bean with veggies, i think it's a must try, i never really say a must try, i find my self liking the dish, why? because it tasted a little bit different seasoning, the taste of fermented bean is the first time i tried when mixed with a vegetable, tasted savoury and definitely not light for a vegetable but a good amount of layered flavour on the vegetable which mixes nicely with the refreshing wok'd vegetable. there are also many other items that are interesting while i was in the restaurant, and the seating, is a little bit hard because i have seen people who didn't lined up just took away the chairs that is just being emptied, not really sure how the seatings worked in this location. definitely satisfying but also shelled out a little bit more than i wanted, will bring more people next time to bring the cost down :D

ps. if you notice the wall, there are items that are very interesting dishes, and it's only written in chinese.

*update the pinaple bun is good but definitely ungodly and unhealthy too

Best known for their pineapple buns and egg custards.

Lido is known for their affordable HK style food and variety of set menus.

We lined up for half an hour, got seated and we asked for the English menu; the waiter barely spoke English. She wasn't friendly at all and even gave us attitude.

We came to Lido because we were nearby and we love their pineapple buns.
Overall, the food is alright.
Rating of 5 for the Pineapple buns, 2.5 for Food and 0 for Service!

Next time, we will order take out.

Tried Lido in the form of takeout for a family dinner a couple of days ago and I can't say I was too impressed. I felt that the food was a little too salty for my liking but everyone else thought that it was pretty standard food for the most part. We were all looking forward to the tapioca pudding but it was actually the least favorite item of the day because it was really stiff and didn't have that gooey custard texture you look forward to when you eat it. We were also confused as to why it was half filled and half not? We thought that it would be redbean paste on the inside but it was actually purple potato mash which we found odd...

Lido pineapple butter bun can be award winning. The beef in the satay beef noodle stays tender and smooth. The HK style milk tea has a fine balance. The milk tea doesn't leave a bitter after taste nor is the milk over powering.

Went to this restaurant on a Wednesday night, it was about 90% full, no line ups, got a seat right away, ordered bake spaghetti, honey garlic speared ribs, satay beef and broccoli, lemon Coke and their famous egg tarts, food was ok, egg tarts were excellent, recommend to come a night time don't go at lunch time, huge line ups, overall a good HK style restaurant for people in Richmond.

Fast service when it's busy, otherwise slow during slow hours. Either the waitress or kitchen forgot our meal, but it didn't come for 40 minutes. If food doesn't come in 10 minutes, then it would be best to remind them.

Super friendly and quick waitresses. You can ask for their English menu. Best pineapple bun (with optional butter) in town! Their combos are very affordable. A combo has an entree, sides and a drink. For 3 people our bill was less than $20!

I love hk style chinese cafes. It's cheap. Fast. And the food is usually pretty awesome! Lido is all of the above. Bf ordered the delicious beef inards lo mein. I ordered the 2 eggs, ham and bun deal with vermicelli noodles and satay beef. Honestly one of the tastiest combos I've had and I've had my fair share. Go early tho cuz we had to wait about 25 mins and we got there at 9am-ish. Egg tarts and pinaple buns are fresh and delicious btw. Always a wait for them! Definitely recommended!!

The pineapple bun is a must. Better to eat in especially if you order the ones with butter. It will be soggy if you don't eat it right away. I wouldn't eat the entire piece of butter because that's just too much and will gross you out. The other snack items I usually order are pan fried turnip cakes and $1 Chinese soup after 9pm (if they still have this). The noodle in soup isn't anything special. I haven't had their big dishes so I can't really comment the rest.
Domo Is Craving...
Lido is a place I've been to several times now and if you've heard of this place, you will know the main reason for coming here, this:. But more on this later!. This place is an HK Cafe style restaurant, and one of the more traditional types. They're usually very busy, so expect a wait if you're there during lunch/dinner times.

What is the hype over the pineapple buns??

I ordered two pineapple buns with butter for take out because all my friends were raving about them. I don't understand the hype??? I got them fresh from the oven with butter. They literally stuffed a slab of butter in the middle of the bun.

I was excited to try it, but it's no better than any other bun I've tasted. If anything, I find it over priced. Maybe I should have dined in??

All in all, it was a decent bun. We didn't stay because everything was in Chinese so we opted for somewhere where we could understand the menu. Maybe next time, we'll bring a Chinese friend to dine in.

It is always packed in the weekend mornings but I always go there almost every week anyways for their pineapple bun and satay beef noodle. Closest thing you can have to Hong Kong style flavours.

Terrible Service and Staff was rude. Service was terrible from the start. Stood in at the door with no clear uniform line with no help from any of the staff. There was was clearly enough staff that could have seated us.Finally got a seat at the big round tables and was rushed to order. When we asked the waitress what is a must-try at this hk style cafe other than their famous pineapple bun, she ignored us and left. We quickly browsed through the menu and order each of our dishes at different time intervals. When our eggtarts came, it was served to us with a fork which was usual but I guess it's to keep our hands clean. The quality of the eggtarts was not so good. I had better so I wouldn't come back for it. As we waited for our pineapples to bake, we order stir-fried instant noodles with pork jowl. It actually came before our pineapple buns but whatever. We dug in. The taste of the sauce on the noodles were good, but the entire dish was just too oily. My partner and I just couldn't eat more than one small bowl of it so we took it home. The pineapple bun was exceptionally good. If I were to go again, I'd probably on order that. Since we sat on the big round tables, we shared it with another family. The staff just threw a toast at me and I wondered why..... because i don't remember ordering it. Did I come with my soup? Then the other family said it's probably their's because they ordered a toast. When we went up to pay, we obviously tipped as it is normal to do so in North America. Coming from Europe, it's still something we have to get used to. But the fact that we were required to tip a certain amount was ridiculous to us. The lady literally said, the bill did not include service fee and the amount you tipped is not enough. I was pretty angry because if there is a minimum for tipping, then you should have included it on the bill and honestly your service was not worth more than what I gave. I effortlessly tipped the rest of the coins I had in my purse (since I don't carry cash around), which is something I have to get used to as well.

Traditional HK Canteen -- Respect!. All the reviewers complaining about bad service... Y'all never been to an authentic canteen in Hong Kong eh? That's what adds to the character of this place! I do have to admit, the quality fluctuates, but I'm willing to ignore that as this is my favvvvourite HK cafe in all of North America. Pineapple bun with butter, satay beef instant noodles, good morning!
Justamorsel
Great restaurant for pineapple buns and milk tea. The savoury dishes were okay but could be better. Also on the more expensive side for these Hong Kong style restaurants.
Lidosucks
Worst place to eat ever!. Last time I went here with friends, the waiter refused to acknowledge our presence; causing us to wait at the front for a good half a hour. Regardless of how busy it is, shouldn't they interact more with their customers? When we finally sat down, I ordered their "famous" pineapple buns but unlike other customers, I was blatantly disappointed by the quality of the buns. Since I grew up in HK, I have never been more disappointed in a pineapple bun. This is a disgrace to all HK style restaurants. I know that it is hard to find a a taste of home in a foreign land but we should not be desperate enough to resort to eating such food. I would give this place a negative rating if possible.

Not impressed.. I decided to visit Lido upon recommendation so I went with 5 other people. I asked for a table of 6 and the host said it would be a 20-25 minute wait so we waited a good 15 minutes. Then, I asked if our table would be available soon, he said "at least 20 minutes". I was annoyed but my friends really wanted to try this place because they're known to be a really good HK cafe. After 10-15 minutes, I asked if a table was ready and he asked me if my friends and I could share a table with 2 other people? Feeling hunger and tired of waiting, we said yes. As we were walking over we saw a booth available for 6 people, we asked for it but he said a group of 6 who had been waiting longer than us would have it. As those people sat down I realized we had arrived before them! Then we sat down to look at the menu, the servers gave us tea and that's when they stopped serving us. My friend had asked for a waiter and they said she was coming. We asked again and it was like we were invisible. The only time the servers looked or spoke to us was when our bags were in the way on the floor in a cramped space. It wasn't because service was busy, there was no line up. I couldn't believe how rude they were! My friends and I decided to leave and the staff acted as if we were never there. We realized we were treated differently because we don't speak Chinese. It was awful.

Dinner is bad. Breadfast and lunch is ok. But the dinner is very bad and expensive.
Unepetitfoodie
Decent Hong Kong food at sub par cleanliness, above average prices and authentic customer service (TERRIBLE).

The service is unbelievable awful
Terence Fung
Good buns, that is about it. Prices are overall slightly more expensive for the same stuff other places offer. their selling point is the fresh buns, which I do find ok. That's all I would go for, now eating lunch and I find it more expensive. if you want your combo to coffee with a cold drink. It's $1.55 extra. a standard milk tea cost $3.70. other places going rate is around $2.

also not friendly to westerners. No English menu I can see.

I would go to try, but most likely won't return for much. dinner is more reasonable
Hello1215
Expect extremely terrible service, below average cleanliness but decent food - and they WILL chase you down for 10% tip, telling you this is Canada and you must do so. Tipping 10-20%+ is a nice gesture BUT tip is NOT mandatory and this place definitely does not deserve it! Get take-out instead if you are really dying to try their famous pineapple bun. It is a shame the owner runs the restaurant this way.
Kar Ly
First time i was there with my friend that spoke Cantonese the service was not bad. Second time i was there with my family the service was horrible. The utensils were dirty and they forgot our order. Then the server boldly ask us that it's restaurant policy to tip 10%.

No English translation for anything in this restaurant.
Wendy
HORRIBLE service. Rude service, waitresses give customers attitude. Not coming back.
Cow Hot
Bad experience. I've been there three times over 10 years, got upset stomach after every single time. Service was bleh, just like most of typical Cantonese restaurant. Server were arguing with me about she can not tell the difference of "chuck of beef" or "slices of beef" while I was trying to figure out their beef noodle soup options. "They all have beef, beef is all the same" she said.
Food was cheap but subpar. BBQ duck skin was soggy not crispy at all, and the meat was way too salty.

The reason I tried this restaurant the first time many years ago was because their famous Bo Loh Bao with butter, I went there all the way from downtown Vancouver to try it, but ended up pretty disappointed. I thought the dish could use better quality of butter for better smell and not so greasy. Even tho I didn't fall in love with the bo loh bao with butter, I did find their price is pretty good for the portion of food you get there, if you don't mind the lack of quality in food.

The service is the worst you can get. When we order, the waitress gave us such a feeling that you are ordering from the wrong menu have us an angry look.

Over rated. I went there after all the raving reviews here about their pineapple buns etc. It doesn't worth it and there are other bakery that have better pineapple buns and cheaper, e.g. Michelle bakery.

Best Pineapple Bun + Butter. This is one of the most authentic Cantonese/Hong Kong traditional canteens in Vancouver. It's the go-to place for HK style breakfast! Of course, the service is also that of a traditional HK canteen, but the bun is worth it.
Food critics in Hong Kong are known to travel to Vancouver for authentic Cantonese food, and this is one of the most celebrated items as authentic pineapple buns with butter (bo lo yau) are said to be lost in HK. It's best to go either in the morning or in the afternoon at 3pm for the freshest buns.

NEVER COMING BACK!!. My family and I go to Lido Restaurant regularly almost on a weekly basis for their famous Pineapple bun + butter (heart clogging and sinful) and their above par hong kong styled coffee and tea. I have been here enough times to understand that service is something that is not to be expected.

HOWEVER, they have really gone above and beyond ridiculous!! My family of 3, my girlfriend, and I sat down and the waitress ignored us for the whole time until we waved her over (which is normal) and she took our order. My girlfriend ordered the pineapple bun + butter and an hot almond drink. We all got our orders quick and fast but instead of the almond drink, we got hot lemon tea. We waved the waitress down and told her we requested hot almond instead and she started arguing and yelling back at us saying that we ordered lemon tea and NOT the almond drink. (We weren't even trying to make a scene either...we just wanted what we ordered). The waitress then proceeds to walk away with the lemon tea and returns in a couple of seconds and started continuing her argument. COM'ON!!! Your in the service industry, CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! And besides, our whole table and every single one of my family heard my girlfriend ordered correctly. What's more, its just one drink, she doesn't need to show us attitude. By simply saying "we got the order wrong, do you mind having lemon tea instead?" would've made us felt much better. Instead of yelling and starting to pick an argument. All I can say, is if I were the boss/manager, I will fire her in a heartbeat!!!

All in all, I love Lido's food, I have been visiting that place since i was a kid in 1996, but that waitress really went overboard this time. With that kind of service, it might be sad to see such a good authentic Hong Kong styled cafe go out of business.
Mike In Vancouver
This may authentic, but I didn't like it. I didn't like the flavor of the soup or meat. Maybe I am not experienced enough for a place like this, but I just didn't like it.

Claypot Rice, Pineapple Bun, and Egg tarts. Came here after a friend told me that their pineapple buns are the best in the city. And she was right. Fresh from the oven, their buns are one of the tastiest I've tried. The same goes for their egg tarts -- delicious. Good custard and flaky shell. Another item on their menu that I've tried many times are their claypot rice. I usually order the big one to share with a few people and we usually cannot finish it. Good variety of claypot rice to choose from and each are really tasty -- although sometimes the topping and rice ratio is lopsided (more rice than meat). Their milk tea is another highlight, smooth with a strong tea taste. Their 'freebies' are a nice deal (last time I went was 'spending over $16 to receive one item'), since some items are pretty good -- i.e. take-home cold curry beef brisket, frozen dumplings, durian pudding, spareribs, etc. And yes, the signs on the wall and the 'freebies menu' are mostly in Chinese characters. Although that may not be a problem for me, it can be somewhat frustrating for people who cannot read Chinese. Overall, a very authentic HK style cafe.

Another go to. The pineapple buns are pure heaven. Unquestionably. They're best ordered at your table with butter (which they put a huge slice of). Brown glutenous rice with chinese sausage was exceptional. Roasted cashews and green onions made it pop. It was so comforting and very flavourful. Singapore vermicelli was good, but I've had it better elsewhere. Their cold HK style milk tea could definitely use improvement. No free refills unlike Alleluia, and they do charge $1.30 for the cold drink option, which is ridiculous. But all in all it's a cheap, quick, reliable HK cafe.

Mmm... Oily HK Breakfast. My parents and I enjoyed breakfast here for most of our short Vancouver trip. If you have to order only one thing, order the pineapple bun which is pretty much guaranteed to be fresh. Warm, toasty bottom and extra crumbly ... crumble. If possible, order it with a giant slab of butter in it. mmmm...

Honestly - There's nothing like enjoying a high calorie, HK style breakfast (almost) first thing in the morning. :D
Ekmek
Top HK Greasy Spoon of Richmond. "You know a chinese restaurant sucks when there's more white people than chinese people" is what some of my friends say.

It is quite unfortunate for those who do not speak chinese because all the deals are posted on the wall in characters. Go with a chinese literate friend? Sometimes I have to embarassingly ask my mother to read the menu to me just so I don't miss out on the real deal.

The pineapple bun is a duh, my relatives from HK even say it's the best one they've ever had. It's also really easy to substitute A for B when you're ordering set meals (breakfast) or add a dollar for hot/cold/upgrading your bun. The boss mans the cashier and is a friendly dude in general.

Popularity means packed during peak hours but don't let that turn you away. People are only there for the food and not for catching up (occasionally there are idiots who choose Lido as a place to catch up) so waiting time is usually short.

Seriously, Lido is NOT a place to slowly chatter and sip on a cup of tea after you're done your meal and there's 8 people lined up for a table.
The Poor Food-e
Authentic Hong Kong Cafe. It doesn't get much more authentic than this; only in the last half a year did they start including more English menus, but some of the better deals are still only written in Chinese. They have a terrific pineapple bun that's straight out of the oven--though it can be inconsistent--and a delicious milk tea. Everything else is pretty standard fare and the quality is just a little above average. It's those damn pineapple buns that keeps you coming back.

Best Pineapple Bun. I love Lido's pineapple bun with butter, especially when it's fresh out of the oven. Call before hand to reserve them because a fresh batch can be gone in mere seconds! It's busy most of the time so be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes for seating during rush hours. Although they have good food, you have to be prepared for the typical bad service in some Chinese restaurants. They won't be very responsive to your requests for extra stuffs.

This place has the best Pinapple bun (ball law bao) and egg tart in Vancouver!

Authentic HK restaurant. Small and inexpensive but authentic HK style food. Good for lunch or dinner although expect weekends to be very busy. I especially like their set lunches which comes with a bun, omelette with ham, a variety of soup base noodles to choose from and a drink. This place caters mostly to Chinese customers as it lacks English on some of its menu and menus on the wall but i recommend anyone who wishes to try some authentic HK style food to visit.

Discriminating Non-Chinese?. Uhhh... excuse me... but I don't understand nothing in this restaurant. Except the "Lido Restaurant" signage and the "Washroom" signage, I could hardly find any English to read. I ordered with the help of my Chinese-literate friend after she read out every item on both the menu and on the wall. (The wall is very busy with assorted "specials" on). That cultural experience for me took her 10 minutes. The complexity of the menu and those "freebies" that you can take home with is really complicated. However, that is not the main reason why I am not returning. I did not feel very well after eating their heavy MSG dishes. No wonder it tasted so good to start with. My body was complaining the whole evening afterward.

“You mean french toast isn’t deep-fried?!” That was my response to my friend when her mom made me what I eventually learnt to be the standard french toast. It was the first time I had french toast made by some one other than my dad. I grew up eating french toast deep-fried with a nice slab of butter on top. I’m pretty sure my fondness for french toast stems from the delicious french toast my dad made. Another thing my dad did was always warm up pineapple buns and put a generous piece of butter in between the sliced bun. It wasn’t until my sister and I went to Hong Kong for the first time last year that we understood where my dad was coming from. We went to Hong Kong style cafes and realized that this style of food was what my dad grew up eating. After experiencing the fatty goodness of these classics in Hong Kong, we had a hankering for them in Vancouver, so we went to Lido. From the french toast to the pineapple buns to the egg tarts, they did it all right. (I LOVE flaky egg tart sh

Check out the video for Lido @macyeats on youtube! I've been coming here since I was a toddler. They push out fresh trays of buns tarts and other baked goods every 20 mins.

This is my must breakfast place to visit whenever I'm in the city. They have a big menu with many traditional HK favourites with reasonable pricing (Being I'm from Calgary, over priced mediocre HK cuisine is very common) Thus my experience with Lido was absolutely wonderful!

Lido restaurant is located in Richmond BC, home to the most Asian population in British Columbia. At first glance, the restaurant has very poor lighting and a lack of space. The wait time is usually between 10 to 20 minutes.

Lido is a HK cafe famous for their pineapple buns!! Almost every table had one, and after watching more than a dozen pass by our table, my dad caved and ordered one LOL! The pineapple buns here are glorious LOL. Best in Richmond, imo! Not only do they look good (not deformed/squished) they taste awesome too!! Their buns are super pillowy and soft, and the top crust is perfectly sweet and crunchy!

My favorite Hong Kong style café in Richmond BC – Lido ! The must-get in Lido was the Hong Kong style milk tea. Hong Kong style milk tea with corn beef and egg sandwich Black tea flavor was strong and the milk was silky, velvety smooth and creamy. The milk tea came unsweetened and each person could adjust their sweetness-liking accordingly. It was truly a little luxury in a cup and I savored every sip of it.

It is a cafe style restaurant but a glance at their menu shows items that they feature much more than your regular cafe style choices.

They slice the still-warm pineapple bun in half and put a slab of butter in the middle that is about three inches by five inches and maybe half an inch thick.

3.75/5 $ Delicious. We ordered He Fen (Pronounce He like the He in "Hell"), which is this slightly translucent, thick, silky noodles. As well as the pineapple bun. The noodles with beef were undoubtedly delicious and hot and fulfilling all around. (Big portions and no MSG). The Pineapple bun, however, had some confusion. I don't enjoy a thick slice of butter in pastries, and somehow she assumed I wanted a extra thick slice of butter for a extra amount of money. Hmm.. The pineapple bun was delicious anyway, but it could have been a lot better without butter. Sneaky lady? Maybe. Service was pretty much non-existent as she walked by a million times. Nice when she actually got to our table. Food was very delicious, she also gave us HK tea with condensed milk, delicious. Bad service but my mom and I still had a very good time! xx Angel

... pineapple bun is a soft sweet bread with a sweet crumbly top (similar to a sugar cookie). And in spite of the name, it has no pineapple as an ingredient (it’s so named because of the crumbly topping which typically has a golden cross hatched pattern that resembles the skin of a pineapple). The bread portion of this bun is pillowy soft and lightly sweet. The topping is lightly crunchy and crumbly and sweet. It’s a very good bun, and goes really well with a coffee....

The food came pretty quickly! And the Pineapple Buns were freshly baked and a new batch was brought out periodically.
Lately I’ve been absolutely obsessed with the Hong Kong-style breakfasts at Lido Restaurant by Aberdeen Centre. Because Lido opens early at 7:15am everyday, they’re pretty much the only option I have when it comes to having an early non-McDonalds breakfast. This restaurant totally brings me back to my memories in Hong Kong because it’s super Honger…for lack of a better term. Nevertheless, the breakfasts here invoke a great deal of nostalgia for me, and perhaps that’s why I like them so much. In my past few visits at Lido , I’ve stuck to getting the “C” Breakfast combo that includes a beverage, bun, and two other dishes. I always opt for the Milk Tea as my beverage, since a Hong Kong breakfast isn’t complete without it. Milk Tea is a traditional Hong Kong beverage that’s made with black tea and evaporated milk. It tastes quite similar to steeped tea, but creamier. Milk Tea (part of $7.75 combo) The Pineapple Bun is another Hong Kong classic, and Lido serves the best ones in the lower ma

Freshly-baked and warm when it arrives at our table with a nice slab of butter (or margarine?) in it. Delicate crispy top, warm sweet bread on the inside and melted butter... *drool* I could live off of these for the rest of my life. It's so good, I'm gonna give you another view of it. They, whoever they are, were right - the fresh pineapple bun is a must here. Have it with a side of milk tea and you've got the perfect breakfast combo.

Lido Restaurant 麗都餐廳 is located on Hazelbridge way between Parker Place and Aberdeen Mall and next door to Café de Waraku ( click ) . It is rated as one of Vancouver's top Hong Kong style cafes featuring the best Pineapple Buns 菠蘿包 and Milk Tea 奶茶 . This place hosts booth seats and a few large round tables. During busy lunch hour or dinner time, please be prepared to share a table with strangers. Of course one does not come here because it has beautiful ambiance of dental moss green. The décor here is modest and considered a dive . Instead, you come here for a quick bite or enjoy a tea or two. I always choose the chicken steak. No matter which Hong Kong style cafe I go to, the chicken is always moist and the skin is crispy.

Alright, so I have officially declared my favourite breakfast hub in Richmond, BC. It’s known as Lido Restaurant.

they bake their pineapple buns fresh almost every half hour. At first, we had only ordered some noodles for a quick lunch, but after seeing at least one bun at every other table, we were determined to get in on it. BEST IDEA EVER. It was so good
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
The restaurant was small, tight and felt very "Hong Kong". Most of the menus were in Chinese with no English. Service was questionable...it's courteous, but slow and inattentive.
Eating In Vancouver
Lido Restaurant is the ultimate Hong Kong Style cafe. The restaurant has a very spartan interior with mostly booths, and since it is a casual, fast food type of place, we receive "hurry up and order, and hurry up and leave" service. At busy times of the day, we'll be required to share a table with strangers. However, we don't frequent Lido for friendly service or its basic decor. We go for Lido's awesome food! If you love pineapple buns, Lido is the place to go. Sure, Kam Do has some decent buns too, but Lido's are always hot and fresh out of the oven. These puppies sell-out fast. Customers waiting in line will ask for buns to be saved for them. Taya's addicted to their dong-yeen-yeungs (sweet iced milk coffee tea drink). Strong, creamy, sweet, and enough of a caffeine jolt to last her until the next day. Lido has really inexpensive set menus - like a sandwich and a drink, or soup and a hot beverage

I did do a sit-down at the also-busy Li Do, as I’d heard so much about the fresh-from-the-oven pineapple buns. (They’re not made with pineapple, but the sugary topping is baked to a crusty finish, resembling a pineapple, shown below.) I walked in and noticed a sheet tray of the buns, so I knew I’d have to wait for a fresh batch. My companion ordered some rice rolls, and I nursed a milk tea while waiting. And waiting. And “reading” all the Chinese signs around me. And rejoicing when a nearby table ordered most of the “old” pineapple buns. I’m not sure if my server was amused with my waiting, but I was happy she understood my request, and at long last she brought me a warm bun. Was it worth the wait? A good one-time experience.
