My lovely friend recommended this bbq skewer house for us so we decided to check it out. At first glance there was a huge line up that made us want to choose another restaurant but after giving it a chance and walking in, we got seated in 10 minutes. Are we glad we didn’t miss out. Lamb skewers were seasoned perfectly and tender morsels that melt into your mouth. Fondue style spicy skewers had our tongues tantalized and slightly numb. Crawfish spiced and seasoned with a snap of vinegar that opens up your tastebuds and crave more. A little pricier for skewers and busy which leads to a bit of wait time but service and food was excellent. Would come back and bring friends!!
We had a fun time at Happy Tree House BBQ. Having tried a couple BBQ skewers, I really like the signature lamb skewers loaded with spices. The Black Cod Hot Pot ($39) was a kickass deal and it was a lot of food for 3 of us. With drinks (2 beers and one herbal tea) we only had to pay $25 each and we were super full. We kind of wish we had 4 people to try more different types of BBQ. If you don't mind the overcrowding and the noise level inside, the place is pretty awesome with the food and energy. I would definitely come back here with a bigger group of buddies.
Food and service was good despite the fact that they were busy. Oyster and prawn were huggge and fresh. Nothing was overly spicy like i thought. Beer were dirt cheap! a great place to hang out with friends.
This restaurant been in this location for at least one of two years. Been wanting to try and got the chance tonight.
Their BBQ skewers are pretty decent quality. The cold dishes tastes very refreshing but not too spicy and over-powering. The Abalone was a great surprise, it was really sweet and full of umami.
The weather has been awfully cold recently, so today i’ll be talking about a place that is PERFECT for this type of weather. After watching the crazy tight super bowl game on Saturday night, a few of us decided to hit up Happy Tree House BBQ to grab a bite. The interior looks completely different compare to the previous ownership’s there. They have 3 big screen tv above the bbq bar area, making it nice to watch/listen to some great chinese music while concerts are being played in the background. The seatings used were wooden furniture that is similar to the park “picnic” tables and benches. The warm lighting and decorations made the space feel very warm and cozy.
My friend wanted to try out Happy Tree House BBQ for our next gathering and I’m down to try new places! I haven’t heard much about Happy Tree House BBQ so I didn’t have any expectations but my friend said that she noticed it was always busy in here when she went to Koto Izakaya which is located in the same plaza. Happy Tree House BBQ specializes in meat skewers.
First time having Chinese BBQ (other than Cantonese BBQ pork or duck haha) and I thought it was really, really delicious! We ordered everything from regular chicken, beef, pork, lamb to more interesting things such as chicken skin, chicken knees and pig intestines. Some things can be kind of spicy, so if you can't handle spice, ask the server for recommendations. Most of what we had was not spicy though, so you'll have plenty of options.
It's a fun atmosphere with good food & good service. Servers were quite attentive despite being extremely busy and they were all friendly too.
Would definitely come back!
○Service was slow but once you have their attention they'll get what you asked for fairly quickly/ they all have smiles so that's pleasant
○do make reservations if you don't want to wait long
○parking is definitely a hassle
○good atmosphere/ social/ drinking environment
○foods were good however yam chips are soggy & needs improvement/ sea bass fish size is smaller than average for its price
○don't like the fact that there's minimum order requirements for skewers
○good party size is 4-6 people
○food did take a long time to come out
○would I come back? Yes, if I can find parking
Great Bbq skewers! i have tried pork skin, prawns, intestine, pork, lamb, beef... Pork was the best! Lamb had little too much spices.
Some of the waitresses don't speak English at all!
Also, their background song is way too loud.
I wish their menu has some photos too.
This place is definitely not for a family dining. It is a great place for a drink...
Possibly the best Chinese bbq house tried so far! All their bbq is charcoal grilled which gives them a nice wooden scent that other bbq houses don't have. The meat quality's great, and the best thing is that they are not as spicy and salty as other places. My girlfriend tried their grilled fish before and said it was pretty great as well.
The reason I'm not rating higher though - the spicy pot dish in 2nd pic took longer than 30 mins, and when it finally arrived, the waitress sent us the bill before we could even finish half of the dish. It's a great place for bbq, but you might need to be prepared to wait for your food and tolerate the service during peak hours.
Came here for Friday night dinner and the restaurant was packed. Even all dinning tables were occupied, I was amazed how fast the servers were. Foods came out just under 10 minutes after order. I love the restaurant vibe even though it may be a bit noisy for some people.
Intestines are must try, crispy outside and flavourful inside. However, I feel like most skewers taste the same, probably because they use the same seasoning for all.
Parking can be challenging especially during the rush hour.
My boyfriend and I came in really hungry and was impressed with their serving speed. We got our whole order within 5 minutes which definitely worth 5 star.
My personal favorite is the intestines. It is extremely delicious, seasoned well and crispy as it should be. Everything else is great too.
They only serve Heineken and Qingdao beer which is surprisingly small variety of beer for a store like this. No hurt to the great food though.
The restaurant could get pretty loud if there is a large party. If you are looking for a more quiet and private place then this is not for you.
This spot is a fun place to visit with friends if you crave traditional Chinese skewers. The menu is packed with a wide variety of BBQ skewers and traditional Chinese dishes. If you wish to try a lot of their dishes and drink alcohol, it may be more fun to visit with several friends as the atmosphere is perfect for socializing and just enjoying yourselves over good food and drinks. They also offer some Chinese non-alcoholic drinks for visitors who wish to remain sober and still try special drinks. The most surprising dish was the fried tofu, as it was flavorful itself and came with a sauce that made it the most talked about dish of the night for our group. Thank you to the chefs that endured through the clearly hot kitchen area to cook the delicious skewers!
Really good BBQ Skewers. Got our self the
Beef kebabs(minimum order of 10)
Spicy chicken wings (minimum of 2)
Chicken skin kebab (minimum order of 2)(highly recommend)
BBQ Oysters (minimum order of 2)
Came here from an family friend recommendation. And I agree with everything they had to say specially with the chicken skin kebabs. Being so rich and crunchy from being deep fried or bbq then seasoned.
The only thing you have to minimum orders of each kebab depending on the order.
My favorite spot for lamb skewers! Their side dishes are so yummy too! Mung bean pasta and yam chips are my favorites. Don’t expect too much on the service thou 🙂 it’s Richmond
Wow, these skewers were delicious. I tried some food I have never ate before like pork intestine, pork foot, and frog legs along with some staples like lamb and beef, absolutely delicious, not too sweet or salty. I truly enjoyed this!!
