Good Food Good Mood

Had the three spice pork hock; really good and great portions! I feel like the interior design could be done better so that it’s more comfortable; the menu design could do with a bit more hierarchy.

Other than that the food is good.

Uncle Lu is sister restaurant to Corner 23 on King Edward/ Cambie. Just like Corner 23, Uncle Lu serves typical Taiwanese-style food with an extensive menu of appetizers, noodles, rice combos, and bubble tea. On the weekend, the place can get quite packed as it’s located right in the Continental Plaza alongside other well known eateries like Dolpan Seoul BBQ, Gyo-o, and Le Tea.

Came here to try their famous pork hock. It was OK. Was expecting slices of meat but got random sized chunks..with quite a bit of fat actually. Garlic sauce was tasty. Noodle in soup was good. Broth was hot just the way I like it and was light. Noodles were perfectly chewy.

My husband had the XO chili sauce BBQ pork fried rice. Was a hefty size. Tasted OK with a little kick.

Marinated tofu was a generous portion. Five spice beef roll was soft, light and tasty.

Service was a bit off though. Servers seemed to be confused where they were supposed to deliver the food..

Uncle Lu, the second Corner23! They specialize in their garlic-y pork hocks but I think their other menu items are pretty good too. I have to say, in my previous visits, I ordered combo meals which I thought were average, but this time, my friend and I weren’t that hungry so we ordered some small appetizers to share. Due to my previous “average” experiences, I was surprised! They were pretty good!

Uncle Lu is famous for their pork hock. We have ordered the Pork Hock Rice, marinated pork ears, Taiwanese popcorn chicken and rolled egg cakes with shredded pork. The Pork hock very tender and flavorful but the side dishes that came with the rice was kind of bleh. The pork ears has no taste. Rolled egg were just okay. Pop corn chicken was tasty. I feel they have lost their passion in providing good authentic Taiwanese food over the years.
But overall the food were not bad.

Domo Is Craving...

Welcome back to Domoiscraving and today we will be talking about Uncle Lu! The chinese wording at the front is exactly like Corner 23 so I assume they have some sort of a relation to each other. I'm not sure if this is exactly true but I heard that the boss of Corner 23 sold that name to another person and now opened Uncle Lu in Richmond to continue the popular Taiwanese chain restaurant here in Vancouver.

The waitress were pretty alright I can't complain, it was pretty busy. I liked the food, each dish came with little appetizers on the side. The bubble tea was very tasty but I was a little disappointed with the pearls. I had honey lemon black tea and stirred fried beef with oyster sauce

Uncle Lu's is similar to Pearl Castle, Bubble World etc, but classier and less catered toward teeny boppers! The  clientele  here are mainly middle aged - retired haha, no highschoolers to be found here! Uncle Lu's sister store is Corner 23, their napkins even have their logo on them!  Pork Hocks $8.90 4/5 stars   Pork Hocks are a weakness of mine. I'm Taiwanese, so naturally, pork hocks are in my blood. At Uncle Lu's, their pork hocks are their signature dish, so I had high expectations.    The pork hocks here are meant to be paired with their sauce. I tried the hocks on their own and surely enough, they weren't marinated well enough so the addition of sa

To be honest, based on what it looks like from the outside, I really thought this was a fancy tea shop for the longest time. Which is why I never bothered to try it. Until recently.

Uncle Lu aka sister store of Corner 23 is always packed with people. At times you really have to seat yourself, and the food takes a while to come out, so I would not suggest coming here if you are in a rush.

They tend to alternate their teas (sometimes within the hour which bugs me as I do not appreciate drinking a mixture of red and green tea, I am a food purist in that sense) but I absolutely love the aroma of their red tea.

Below is a compilation of the foods we have eaten as I have been here too many times.

Pig hock is undercooked and garlic soy sauce barely covered its ’original’ taste, small portion for the fried chicken nuggets, side dishes were pretty good tho

This restaurant is popular for its pig's feet which came with great presentation on th plate. I also like their spicy dry cooked chicken, it's quite authentic. My only qualm with this restaursnt is that the combo side dishes feel a bit lacking. The pricing is on par with other cafes of this caliber. You can get a full meal for around 15-20$.

This restaurant has lots of selection it's hard to pick the best dish. Food was great along with service. The only reason it didnt get 5 stars is the typical cash only Asian restaurants in Richmond would do. Aquire another form of payment so food order aren't limited to what's in your wallet.
