Review Shiang Garden - Richmond

M Ping
It's the typical Chinese dinner banquet food. I came here for a friend's company dinner and the level of service and food they provided for the event was good.

I still prefer Shiang Gardens for good standard dimsum as the food ingredients like the shrimp are sweet and plump that is used in the various dimsum dishes. Service was way better than the standard poor service generally provided to non chinese in other restaurants. I was the only non chinese in the restaurant.

Food is Canton style. It tastes so so to me, a little too heavy. It seems quite full all the time. Service isn't too bad, actually good among Chinese restaurants. 90%+ customers are Chinese and 80%+ are Cantonese. They claim 20% off before 11:30am. But I didn't feel that much difference in the final cost of a meal.

Both the service and food was average. It did not blow me away, but also didn't really surprised me in quality as others might have said. Not bad, but not that great either. The free parking was nice at least.

Food was very good and service was excellent! Loved the fish with noodles and crab was yummy!

A just ok restaurant for dimsum. Comfortable seatings, reasonable price and average food.

The server straightaway knew that this was my first visit to Shiang Garden when I ordered 3 steamer trays of har kow for the 3 of us. It turned out that their har kow is BIG - 3 shrimps inside each of them!

Nice venue for parties and celebrations. Great service and media setup too.

Dim sum is just as good as other restaurants but at more reasonable prices and quieter surroundings. A good find in Richmond!

The restaurant has excellent food and services. My favorite is the deep fried fish and tofu pudding. I would recommend for anyone who's looking for a good time with family or friends.

Another stab at trying a different dimsum place in Richmond landed us here in Shiang Garden. It was pricier than our last dimsum outing at a different establishment, but the decor inside gives off that vibe. Food was alright but without the 20% off early-bird special it just made the meal too expensive for what it was. Service was fine, speedy and professional. Everyone had a role and they knew what they were doing. I'm hesitant to come back because there's so many other places to try.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
Nice spot for dim sum. A very nice room with high ceilings and chandeliers and confusingly 3 large screen televisions. Never the less, we enjoyed a variety of standard dim sum dishes. The shiu mai was very good with large pieces of shrimp in the mix and the pleasant pop of roe on top. The fried scallop with Portuguese sauce has to be my favorite though in its crispy nest. My partner who is a fan of chickens feet feels like they were better on a previous visit although I found them to be tasty and tender and thus less challenging to eat than they seem at some places. We enjoyed the beef roll also which had a subtle taste of 5 spice and benefited from the green onion and cucumber in the mix. Sharp dressed wait staff were friendly enough and quick to top up our tea and even brought us fresh plates at one point. I thought $42 for 3 people including tax and tip was a pretty good deal. We are trying to work our way through a list of top ten dim sum places in Richmond and this is our favorite so far.

Shiang Seafood Restaurant caught my attention when I noticed them being a popular location for Chinese wedding banquets in Metro Vancouver. On Zomato, most people seemed to have positive reviews for them as well. When I saw their dim sum deal for 4 on Axka recently, I decided to take advantage of it.

Overall and over all the many dishes, I was fairly impressed by the variety and different styles of preparation for all the different meats. Shiang Garden has a fairly deep menu of dishes all available to be ordered right off the menu at your table.

Eating With Kirby
The noms are real. We started off with a Prawn Salad which consisted of half a juicy ripe papaya topped with huge prawns, melon and Japanese mayo. I absolutely adore prawns that have a good snap when you bite into it, and this was the case. I'd come back just for this appetizer alone.
Every Day Is A Food Day
Shiang Garden has been around for quite some time, and their decor is quite fancy with chandeliers hanging off the ceiling. The Whole Chicken in Abalone Sauce was presented like a piece of art! Looked like a peacock, and it was literally the whole chicken! The chicken was very moist and tender. The abalone sauce paired well with the chicken to give it more flavour.

After going through what was easi;y the most convoluted restuarant entrance I've ever seen, (on the 3rd floor of a parkade and after walking through excess chairs, tables and napkins) I finally got inside to what is actually a nice interior. I was expecting it to be much dumpier so points there.

The food here is solid, standard dimsum. I couldn't find anything to rave or really complain about. What I did have seemed to satisfy my Dim Sum craving.

One note on the service, I shouldn't have to ask 5 times to get the bill, especially when you have a line up waiting for tables. This is just basic and being quick iwth the debit card machine makes the whole experience better for all concerned.

Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant 敘香園海鮮酒樓 is a Chinese restaurant that specializes in Cantonese cuisines. Opened for dim sum lunch and dinner menus around live seafood. It is located within Empire Centre where Chef Tony 頤東大酒樓, Double Double 老油條大牌檔, and James Snack 占士叻煲仔飯 are located in.

Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant is an authentic Chinese restaurant featuring Cantonese dim sum and live seafood. They are located on No. 3 Road close to Parker Place. This is a popular location for weddings as they can seat a large amount of people, plus the layout is ideal for a large banquet wedding.

I was pretty impressed by their dinner. Lots of items on their menu and their specialty dishes were pretty good. I would definitely be back.

I think my favourite items were Diced Beef Tenderloin in Honey & Pepper, Specialty Layer Pork, Whole Chicken in Abalone Sauce, and their Sauteed Mixed Seafood.

Well made dim sum. Service was attentive. It's a fine dining restaurant so the dim sum pricing is on the higher end. However, I really did enjoy the food. Will go back.

Wedding Dinner. As stated I was here for a wedding and the service was pretty good given they were serving every table in the restaurant (at least on the 3rd level).

The food itself was alright, probably cause I'm chinese as I've eaten this stuff at pretty much every chinese restaurant during a wedding.

Luv the chandeliers & high ceilings in this resto. been here numerous times for private dinner events, weddings, and dim sum. no complaints about the food but i always find myself getting lost in this multi-level building....via elevator as well as which level i've parked at....confusing layout.

A pretty good deal. We haven't been here in a while and arrived before 11a.m. for dimsum. The place was packed by 12pm and we thought that the food had improved since our last visit...and that it was busier than previously. When we received our bill, I realized why: 20% off! With that, it was a good deal as we ordered a lot of food and had lots to take home. The egg tarts were piping hot and had flaky crusts. I thought the har gow was very good too. It had huge pieces of shrimp inside and it was flavourful. The rest of our dishes were good but not particularly memorable. I was disappointed with the Salt and Pepper Salmon because it was kind of dry. After a few pieces I was tired of it. Make sure you come before 11a.m. and you're good to go...don't know if that's the cut-off for the 20% off or not. Most likely it is.

When there are no weddings or events, the place is very quiet and seats much fewer people. These nights are definitely ones to enjoy! They have excellent customer service and very high quality foods. I always order this vegetarian entrée that has a mix of different mushrooms and vegetables. As a person who dislikes most veggies, Shiang Garden makes me learn to love them every night I eat there. The fried rice and blackpepper beef is food made from heaven.

One of the best DinSum places in the Lower Mainland. Unlike most Chinese restaurant, the seating is very spacious and comfortable. The food is always consistent and well worth the higher prices. Service is well, atleast better then most Chinese restaurants.

Worst wedding banquet ever. Attended a friend's wedding and the whole restaurant was booked for it. The service was just horrible.. my table just happened to be under the expected 10 people (7 people to be exact) and the servers seemed to be coordinating with the kitchen to give us less food. It was barely enough for 7 people (the served soup just filled 7 bowls exactly). The hosts have to pay for the full 10 people per table anyway, so I don't know why they would skimp on the food.

The pop was watered down and servers were scarce. When the servers DID come around, it felt like they didn't even want to be there. The little food that we did have, they tried to take it away before we were done eating. They just wanted to rush the next dish out.

It was a horrible dinner service. The food was okay, not bad.. but definitely not worth the money paid for it.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Richmond. Awesome food and service. Their dim sum are fresh and delicious; I especially like their shrimp dumplings, egg tarts and almond dessert soup. When I go there for dinner with my friends and family, I always make sure I order their seafood. Shrimps, fish, shark fin and lobsters are all great choices. Another thing i want to mention is thier eating grant environment. With thier more than ten crystal lightlings and the beautiful paintings on the wall, Shiang Garden is my favorite place to go!

Sits very comforable. Love the high ceiling. Foods is good and they have some modern dim sum not seen made by other restaurants

Good Food, Good Atmosphere & Great Service. Found this by doing some research on the web when looking for something different. Nice atmosphere (almost Western) and the service is GREAT (not always the case for Dim Sum establishment where the service can sometimes be carried out in a 'matter of fact' fashion). Price is a little more than your neighborhood establishment, but not much more. The quiet atmosphere and great service more than make up for that. Location is not that great due to traffic and construction (related to Olympics), but worth it if you only get out for Dim Sum every so often. Again, the service is GREAT!

An asian restaurant interior design with traditional luxurious chandeliers, high ceiling and artistic panelling. If your entered through the entrance on the first floor you will see some big, elegant VIP rooms, telling you that you’re gonna spend a fortune by having abalone, sharkfins and seafood here. I personally quite liked the dimsum because they offered greater variety of choices and most importantly, i thought they were tasty in overall! My favourites were pumpkin pancakes, Gui Fei Bun anddddd shrimp Roll with seaweed and ginger. Most of them were made with good, consistent size and deeeeeleeesh to look at.

... insanely crisp skin w tender and flavorful chicken - I mean really tender and juicy; shrimp crackers on the soft side, not crunchy enough...

I like that their menu has many informative photos so even people who can't read Chinese are able to navigate the menu fairly easily. However, for some dishes there is a discrepancy between their photographs and the actual product. Take a good look at the buns photographed in the bottom left hand corner of the menu.

The food, service, and ambiance were of good quality, which is to be expected at a restaurant of this calibre. However, I’m not an expert at Chinese banquet restaurants, so I can’t really compare with others in its class. There were a lot of dishes I loved, especially the meat courses, and none that I honestly disliked. Despite the restaurant seeming like a traditional Chinese restaurant, there was a distinct Western flair in the dishes offered, which makes it a bit less daunting for Canadians new to Chinese food. Final Score: +5 (+8, -3)

First arrived the two plate of crab legs. Our crab was eight pounds, which is considered small, and compared to the last two times I ate it this season, there weren't that many. I'm not sure of the size of those crabs, but it seemed like this was only two-thirds of those ones. There weren't many big sized ones either -- just mostly smaller, less meaty legs. It's pretty hard to go wrong with cooking them this way.

The one thing that always seems certain when going for dim sum in Richmond is that parking is always a concern. Even when space is plentiful, you’re still at the mercy of bad

We started off with a couple of staples, and some staples that had a twist. For the most part, dim sum is normally the same type of food with almost the same consistency in any restaurant you go to (we are that lucky to have great dim sum in Vancouver). Some places have their own signature dishes or have specialties, but generally the same variation. First off was the Hau Gau and Steam Rice Cake layered with custard. Hau Gau (Shrimp Dumpling) is my baseline for dim sum and they nailed it here at Shiang Garden....

I haven't been to Shiang Garden for ages, but decided to go for dim sum since they have 20% off before 11 am. The seating area for dim sum is on the 3rd floor in the crystal room, aptly named because of the 16 crystal chandeliers. The ceiling is quite high, so the space is very comfortable and roomy. No wonder so many people choose Shiang Garden for holding banquets. The chair covers are a nice touch, but unfortunately they're old and frayed with food stains on them. It would be nice if they were washed or replaced every once in a while. I think my camera makes the food look a bit better than it does in reality, because the chicken and seafood dumplings (白玉水晶賣) ($4.50) did not look this colourful. They looked really mushy and all of them stuck together because the skin was super sticky. The filling consisted of chicken (which I couldn't really taste) and seafood. Apart from a small bit of not-too-fresh scallop, I couldn't distinguish what other seafood was in t

Sigh...it's unfortunate to see that Shiang Garden in Vancouver is nothing like the one in Taiwan, in service, food or ambiance.

By far my top pick for dim sum is Shiang Garden. It’s elegant like Kirin, with nice linens and high-back chairs. Typical with places like this, it’s hard to get a smile with your service, but the servers are earnest and polite. You’ll want to order an extra basket or two of har gow (pictured below, along with the chicken feet), as this is the best around, and everyone will want seconds or thirds. Whereas at other places the shrimp is chopped up and clumpy, here you can see the whole shrimps through the thin, translucent dumpling wrappers. They’re plump and juicy, sweet and slightly briny. The dumplings offer a crisp bite—a snap of freshness that tastes, well, almost alive.

During the day trip to Lonsdale Quay and lunch at China town, I was invited to join the SUCCESS Women’s Club mother’s day lunch. The ticket was $25 for non-member. The Mother’s Day Lunch was held at Shiang Garden in Richmond. The Mother’s Day Lunch took place in a private room. It was a great turnout of five tables. The lucky draw table. The table gift of a pot of geranium for each guest. Sauces. The XO sauce was the favourite and we got two more refills. The first course for a multi-course Chinese dinner is often a soup. For this lunch, we had the Fish Maw Soup. While most people added vinegar to the soup, I had mine with XO sauce, yum!. The second course was the Peking duck. The duck was carved in the dining area. The first serving of the Peking duck dish was the duck skin over a bed of prawn crackers.
