Hole in the wall, quick service style chinese food. Shareable sized plates. Curry was so good, not too spicy just the way i like it. Tofu and cod hot pot was en par to other ones I've had elsewhere. Everything was tasty. Warning: parking will be tight for large vehicles.
Great Chinese food. Our new favourite. Absolutely outstanding. Servers were super friendly- thanks Jenny. Loved the garlic spareribs and the black bean chow mein- crispy.
If you’ve ever been around the Victoria Drive area near East 41st Avenue, you’ve probably seen the popular HK Style Cafe known as Mui Garden. As it turns out, they also have a Richmond location (they had another location on Main Street that closed out last year). The Minoru Blvd location is a bit hidden from the street as the entrance is on Firbridge way (1 block north of Westminster Hwy). We stopped by for lunch on the weekend and the place was fairly busy. As with the Victoria Drive location, service is curt and to the point.
The curry at Mui Garden is so delicious and the beef brisket is really tender. Even though they have a little chilli pepper on the menu to warn that it is spicy, the kids eat it no problem-they love it! I don’t eat pork so I am so happy they offer sweet and sour chicken and I love that they put lichee in it. The prawn chow menu was tasty too! The food came out lightening fast and service is pretty good, but sometimes the servers can be in an unfriendly mood and prioritize setting tables over coming over when you try to flag them down. The dishes are quite pricey and i noticed on this visit that we were charged $1 per takeout box when they packed up our food, and this is why I didn’t give a higher rating.
You know you can always count on Mui Garden to satisfy your curry craving. Being from Hong Kong and all, home-style cooking gives such a personal touch and reminds me of home. Dishes like Minced Pork Chili Beans, Sweet and Sour Pork, and their daily soup tastes super authentic!
For this visit, I got my two favourite dishes from here: Curry Chicken with Rice and Sweet and Sour Pork. The Curry Chicken order comes with a drink or soup. As it was a cold day, we chose the soup! For those who haven't had Chinese soups before, they tend to be made with bones scraps (Chinese people don't waste anything - bones from meats give the soup a great flavour). The soup usually contains some chopped up turnips, carrots, and parsnips as well. It's a light broth unlike cream soups.
The Curry Chicken is amazing as usual. The chicken is consistently tender with the softest skin that slips right off. The sauce is creamy with just the right amount of spice, mixed with green and red peppers. I absolutely love how every Asian cuisine has their own different type of curry. When it comes to Chinese curry, you'll know to expect a heavy, creamy sauce. A lot of Chinese dishes/sauces are meant to be mixed with plain rice, which explains the strong flavours in most dishes!
Without a doubt, Mui Garden is my ultimate favourite place to get Sweet and Sour Pork. It's rare to find a restaurant that serves this dish with every piece still crispy! The pork is deep fried, and topped off with a red, sweet, and sour sauce. In the sauce, there's also vegetables like peppers and onions and fruits like pineapple and lychee!

Reasonably priced, quick service and stable quality. Try their curries and chicken with rice! May be very busy during evenings so make a reservation!
My go to place for Hong Kong Style SouthEast Asian food. That's right! It is SE Asian with a twist. I love their ChiuChow style noodles and their curry. I used to love their Hainanese Chicken, but honestly I have tried better ones in Greater Vancouver area.
Try their beef brisket curry. It'll just melt in your mouth. My mouth is actually watering as I write this review. If you could go when there's no line up, tjat would be ideal since this place gets quite busy.
After a bad experience at the mui garden on Victoria drive in Vancouver, I decided to give another location a shot. My service was straightforward here and friendly. I ordered a fried rice to go and it was really good. I would definitely recommend this location as a better location. If I was in the area I would come back again.
Very decent HK style cafe with a lot of food options. Milk tea is tasty, baked pork chop rice is good. The restaurant is busy and required some waiting time to be seated. They serve complimentary desert and it was red bean soup on the day we went.
The very first time I tried Hainanese chicken was at Mui Garden. This was 10+ years ago. The chicken was excellently cooked, tender and very satisfying, though I don't like the fact that is not deboned. It is a bit saltier than the other Hainanese chickens I have tried, but it only means that I will need more rice.
We also had their famous beef brisket curry. It's one of the best Chinese-Malaysian curries, I have had.
every time when I was there, never got disappointed. So warm service from these lady and yummy food...
This is the No.1 restaurant in richmond in my mind....
Hope they can keep that....
After posting a short review about Mui Garden on Zomato, I was craving their Beef Curry again, so decided to have it for dinner. Mui Garden is a Hong Kong style cafe that has different types of Chinese (more like Cantonese), Malaysian and Singaporean dishes. I used to get their Beef Curry only, but today I wanted to write a more detailed review so ordered some more.

Although Mui Garden’s menu consists of Chinese, Malaysian and Singaporean dishes, their style of cooking truly reflects how Cantonese folks like their food prepared: simple, not too spicy, not too sweet, subtle and yet sophisticated. It could be quite an interesting experience for diners who are unfamiliar with the Cantonese casual dining culture.
Good curry. I love the curry here! Its really good served over rice. Other typical Chinese style dishes also served and are good. However like most Asian restaurants service was okay however this waitress did not speak English fluently.
Delicious food, one of the best beef brisket curry in town. Service is soso and dish portions are small. "Expensive" for the amount you get.
Great dishes, price and ambiance.. We lost our Mui Garden around Lougheed Mall/Coquitlam which was replaced by, wait for it .......another Korean eatery! lol. Anyway, came here for a celebration and had a really nice time. No problems bringing our own cake, service was polite throughout despite it being very busy at around 6:30'ish and everyone enjoyed the food that came out. Potato curry was just as delicious as I remembered. This location has HK beverages. Milk tea was nice and served hot how I like it. Would recommend in a heartbeat. All the families here seem to be really glad with their meals. Keep in mind it isn't the kind of spot to dawdle.
Oily but tasty. The food is slightly on the oilier side! actually that's already a complement! their rice drowns in oil! i would only recommend their famous curry beef brisket with rice/noodle and a dry noodle with beef brisket with broth on the side and cold drinks for no extra charge with a meal or you can get bbt for $1 with meal!
Authentic busy chinese restaurant. Talk about busy and hard working staff! Had a great time eating here with my daughter. Felt like we were teleported to Hong Kong. We loved the chicken curry (her favourite dish).
Good value. I get the same things almost every time i go here - the special for 2, which includes hot and sour soup, 2 spring rolls, chicken curry and singapore noodes for $30. it's enough food for 3 people and with a side dish of veggies would probably be enough for 4. the food is tasty - they're known for the curry and it is very good. the service can be indifferent, and there is sometimes a weird smell from some sort of cleanser. a decent neighbourhood restaurant when you're in the mood for some straight up chinese food without a lot of frills.
The curry beef brisket lived up to everything I had heard and read. So very tender and bathed in a perfectly spiced curry. Rich, but not really heavy. The Hai Nan style rice was a great alternative to steamed rice. Also had the spicy green beans with pork in brown sauce. Cooked with a good amount of pork and mushrooms and still tender crisp. The roti was done well, but small. I enjoyed the coconut curry to dip it in. Prompt service and clean bathrooms. Definitely will be back to try more curries here.
Best curry and chicken oil rice. However the price is quite expensive.
Beef satay and curry beef brisket hits the spot!
Mmmm curry. Loved their curry, give it a A++
Curry Beef Brisket. The best curry beef brisket in town.
Good curries. Food is good, the curries are yummy, service is ok, prices are reasonable
They have very good beef curry, chicken curry and their skewers are good. Small place, the portions are moderate.
Mui Garden is known for having the BEST curry in town. It was indeed some of the best curry I've ever had in the GVR! The curry was on the sweeter side, and had a very subtle kick. The curry had a lot of depth from the spices and I could really taste the layers. I prefer my curry to be thicker, as this was rather liquidy. 2/5 stars Another dish Mui Garden is known for is their Hainanese Chicken. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed. I've had much better Hainanese Chicken, and this was mediocre at best. The chicken wasn't
Mui Garden has been open in Richmond for as long as I can remember. I can even recognize some of the servers. You can read about their history and see the awards they’ve won here. I strongly recommend: Beef Brisket Curry on Rice. Their curry doesn’t seem to taste the same with other meats. One time, Gerardo and I took Angelica here and she ordered Chicken Curry but it just wasn’t the same. The curry seemed diluted and did not taste nearly as good! Plus, the brisket melts in your mouth. So I beg you, order the Beef Brisket Curry. And I wish you good luck on curry addiction counselling.
We've been wanting to check out Mui Garden for a little while now as it's pretty close to where we live, so when we found ourselves with nothing to eat for dinner last week, we finally made the trek over to see what they had to offer.
The best Chinese curry I have ever had, bar none. I've been eating at Mui Garden for over 10 years now, and I still haven't found a place that has better Chinese style curry. The first time visited Mui Garden's was in college when a friend of mine - Ada (
Their beef brisket curry is still the bomb.
I ordered this prawn and walnut with special sauce that used to be amazing and have whole walnuts, now the walnuts are in pieces.
Seems like the food quality is dropping due to inflationary pressures. I will revisit though as this is one of my favourite restaurants to see if it's a one off.
If you look for "past" hong kong style “Cha chaan teng”. It should be a place to visit. Simple but speedy service, while the favour of foods recalled me back to cha chaan teng in hong kong, which is fading out... Hong kong style milk tea is something you should also try.
Good flavours and fast service. Good soup, and hotpot, but roast pork in the hot pot wasn't great. Very tasty beef brisket curry. Large menu selection and reasonable pricing. The rice flavoured with chicken oil was a highlight.
Best curry beef brisket in town. Other menu items like sweet and sour pork, Hainan chicken, and honey garlic spare ribs are awesome too.
Service is friendly enough, same staff have been with the restaraunt for a long time. I recognize them and they remember us. Lots of regular customers here.
Kid friendly, high chairs and maybe boosters are available.
Prices are reasonable, nothing outrageously priced here.
Has a bit of an old school feel here, but this establishment has been around the lower mainland for a long time.
Definitely one of my favourites.
