Review Tsim Chai Noodle Restaurant - Richmond

Everything was flavourful and good portions for the price. Surprised this place isn't busier. Standout was the honey and garlic spare ribs.

Been awhile eating here for wonton noodles in person. Love plump juicy shrimp wontons. Nice to be able to dine-in person (takeout available). Getting used to new restaurant restrictions of space and plastic wall dividers, condiment/sauce jars gone from tables (given in measured lid plastic cups instead) but glad customers can come-in again to eat.

Had the dry mixed noodles with wontons and beef brisket and added sui gao, it was a huge portion, easily big enough for 2 meals. Cost the same as a place in Chinatown but TC was more generous and tasted better. The beef brisket sauce was very flavorful and imparted that wetness to the noodle. I asked for sriracha and chilli oil to spice it up. Staff were very nice and hoped I enjoyed my meal.

A wonderful place to eat! My favourite has got to be the shrimp wontons. They were so good in any and every dishes! Their stir fried dishes were also wonderful. Portion was big, and very enjoyable. My complaints: as much as I wanted to say ALL dishes were good, I couldn't. Stir fried noodles and fried rice weren't great. Service was just another HK restaurant service--no offense, but definitely not their strongest quality. Nevertheless, the staff was definitely friendly. Washroom wasn't dirty, but it wasn't good. I've been to this place for over 2 years now, and they've been opened for far longer.

Wanton is awesome. Golf balls size and filled with prawns! Also, try their salted fish with diced chicken fried rice, lots of wok hey and super fragrant salted fish.

Tried 6 different types of dishes and they were all not bad. This place was actually a lot better than other Chinese restaurants with better review.

If you come, order the wontons. They are homemade and bursting with fresh tender shrimp. The noodles are your average egg based firm noodle and kinda bland but you can add vinegar and chili sauce to spice it up. The broth tastes unique and flavourful. The place gives off 90s Chinese restaurant vibes...

Ate here twice. First time at about 4.00pm we were famished from a long drive and needed a pick me up.
The service was efficient and we ordered Hongkong Boat congee and century egg congee. Both were excellent. So was the deep fried wantons we had to go along. It was packed solid with prawn flesh and fried perfectly.
The next evening we could not resist to go back for dinner. This time we ordered their noodles. I had noodles with beef brisket. It was excellent. The others opted for the congee and noodles. We were not disappointed. We had also their wanton is red chillie oils. It was good, by Canadian standards.
Service was what I reckoned to be family members though I think the main lady server cashier etc. could be less stern faced.
Good value for money

And I am a fussy old Chinese man who has tramped the world but mainly spoilt by a wide international choice of excellent Singaporean food.

July , 1, 2017

I went there for dinner with dad and hubby before watch fireworks. But everything too oily for me and made me had stomachache.. it's end up rude my plan... can't go anywhere.

They served us rose wine chicken (extremely oily/ uncooked/ no rose wine taste) , guy lan with oyster sauce and braised pork feet (soft/ oily/ no taste), they gave it to us in 2 minutes.

They served us stired fried bean sprouts shredded pork on noodles ( big portion of noodles, but hardly find pork meat inside) , they gave it to us after 5 minutes. Looks like they don't need to cook.

It's not busy.. we suppose go to speciality chicken restaurant... but too many people waited for seat and at least wait for half hour.. it's end up... Tried this restaurant instead.

2 points for services only.

Tsim Chai Noodles is located in Richmond and serves Cantonese cuisine. I love Cantonese food since it reminds me of eating at home. We were invited by Tourism Richmond to experience the Dumpling Trail. Tsim Chai Noodles is one of the restaurants featured in the trail for their dumplings in soup.

I lucked out on parking out front on a late Sunday afternoon around 1pm. When I walked into the joint it was dead and we got a seat right away. I've read alot of other posts here that the beef brisket is a hit or miss. I decided to take a risk and order the brisket and wonton egg noodle soup. My girlfriend didn't know what to order so she got the Thai fried rice.

Service is 5/5. I believe the guy who served us was the owner and is pretty cool. Thai fried rice was ok. Nothing made it Thai but chilies haha. Still, it's enjoyable. Goulesters on cambie has a way better Thai fried rice. The beef brisket and wonton egg noodle soup is DELICIOUS. My experience with this dish was pleasant. They had some bbq satay oil sauce on the side that gave it an extra layer of flavor.

I must say... Their in house wonton dumplings are pretty good. I would definitely come back again and try out their late night menu.

Btw there are two prices for the beef and wonton egg noodle soup. The more expensive price comes with a drink of your choice.
My brother Narc likes the fried wonton. You get about eight of these huge, juicy shrimp balls that stay crispy even when we order take-out. My father Ludvig use to bring back sui kau for my younger brother Jacuzzi and I after he went out with his buddies.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
It's a Saturday...and we were stuck in a seven-hour course at the Richmond Hospital. I thought about packing lunch boxes from home but we weren't sure about the microwave situation. So, during our lunch break, we had to suffer through all that miserable tortures from the hospital cafeteria, brought to you by Sodexo.

Right after the course, Buddha Boy and I needed real food, something comforting. Driving along Westminster Highway, we decided to stop by Tsim Chai Noodles 沾仔記 to satisfy our needs.

From the wall menu, I ordered the Pork Stomach & Sour Vegetable Soup 白胡椒豬肚酸菜煲, one of my favorites here. As always, the pork stomach was clean very well with no disgusting residues. The Chinese sauerkraut used was the proper type where it's sour, not sweet. Sufficient amount of peppercorn gave the whole package a nice peppery kick without being intrusive.

The Chicken w/Garlic & Honey 蒜子蜜汁雞球 was something Buddha Boy has been eyeing to try. The chicken was tender, but the honey coating was too sweet. The portion was a bit small for the price.

Buddha Boy's Chinese Mushroom & Boneless Chicken Chow Mein 北菇雞球炒麵 had an unbalanced ratio between the meat and the greens. The overly wet topping mix softened most of the crispy noodles. Portion was acceptable.

Next came an order of Lettuce with Oyster Sauce 蠔油生菜. The vegetable was simply blanched and served with salty oyster sauce. Nothing special, just comforting.

Since I'm not a fan of crispy noodles, I added an afternoon special of Diced Pork & Cream Corn on Rice 粟米肉粒飯. This not-so-creamy cream sauce had just the right amount of savoriness and consistency with adequate amount of corn and pork. Portion was appropriate as an "afternoon-tea" but paying $9.75CAD for it was a bit steep.

The afternoon special came with a drink and I ordered an unsweetened Cold Lemon Tea 凍檸茶. The drink was lukewarm and was quite diluted.

Honestly, this place was a bit costly for what we ordered. Service was prompt when requested but mostly oblivious. Nonetheless, while there were misses, we were satisfied and the food has met our needs.

This place is always packed, any time of the day. We came here for late night eats and this place was packed full of people!. We ordered from their late night menu which were mainly $8.95 items. If you order I think 3-4 dishes from their $8.95 menu, it comes with unlimited plain congee free. We had the gai lan, green beans and the pork knuckle dish.

came in here after a few days after new year, was curious because it's near the area where i was staying and it's noodles, definitely i'm a big fan of egg noodles type or any type of noodles. and so came in after was seated after a few minutes, ordered a few dishes, some dishes that i ordered are actually not noodles, ordered their wontons, clams, chicken with cashew and green/red pepper, and brocolli with tofu.

overall the food was definitely okay, recommends the wonton because of the ingredients, and the rest are definitely good, the food tenderness and softness are well cooked to it's right firmness.

Tried their lunch menu - Beef Briskets & Wontons Noodles Soup; They didn't have Beef Tendon & therefore ordered another one but with "Ho Fun' instead of thin noodles. Also ordered a bowl of Shui Kars in Soup.

The beef briskets were a bit dry & not very tasty, wontons not 'crunchy' enough, shui kars were ok.

If you're a bit hungry, better order the 'ho fun' instead of thin noodles because our bowl of thin noodles was really small in quantity (not sure if the noodles are relatively expensive compared to ho fun....)

Overall comments : ok but not very impressing.

I think I would like visiting the Old Buddies Seafood Restaurant located at Alexandra Road more because their wontons are quite tasty...

I came here for a late dinner. My boyfriend and I wanted to eat wontons and beef tendon with some noodles, so we both ordered similar dishes of food. He ordered a bowl of beef tendon and wonton with noodles in soup and I ordered a dish of beef tendon with oyster sauce with mixed noodles with soup on the side. The food was very Hong Kong style and it came out fast. But nothing was special or surprised me. The price and service were okay.

This restaurant is located in Richmond. Richmond has many Asian restaurants. If this wonton noodle restaurant wants to stay competitive in the market, they need to maintain their food, service and quality or even improve themselves in all these aspects.

When I first saw Tsim Chai Noodles in Richmond years ago, I was overjoyed because the best Wonton Noodle Soup I'd ever had at the time was at Tsim Chai Kee Noodle in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Although I still don’t know if those 2 noodle houses are actually affiliated, the one in Richmond does have the same ping pong-sized shrimp wonton and hand made tilapia balls. Comparing Tsim Chai Noodles to another popular wonton noodle house, Max Noodle House, the rivalry dramatically reflects the big rivalry between Tsim Chai Kee and Mak’s Noodle (Mak Un Kee) on Wellington Street in Hong Kong Central of 15 years. So who’s better? Tsim Chai or Max? But at the end I think the question should be… For having a bowl of Wonton Noodle Soup, are you a Noodle guy or a Wonton guy? If you’re big on noodle, Max is the place for you, but if you likes to have bigger and tastier wonton, Tsim Chai definitely provides the fix!

WOW, this place is pretty good! I would like to go back and try other things. Got the beef and wonton noodles. Soup had amazing flavor unlike most HK style cafes. price was on point too.

Complimentary soup of pork bones with carrot and green carrot. The complimentary soup is not bad as it is usually cooked for a long time. Seasonal vegetable (in this case, it’s Chinese broccoli) with beef. The beef were tender. Seafood and seasonal vegetable with E-Fu noodle. Ginger and green onions go well with seafood.

Amazing wonton soup! The size of the wontons are huge and they are filled with 100% juicy shrimp. I really recommend the Beef Brisket Wonton Soup, it's super filling, seasoned perfectly, and warms the soul.

Any Cantonese kid will tell you that going for congee, salty donuts, and lo mien meant that it was Sunday (or saturday) morning and you didn't have to go to school LOL! In my case (sunday) because I had chinese school on saturdays!! I eventually quit in 5th grade...which was a really BAD idea... I really regret it now. I wish my parents "forced" me to learn to write chinese, just like how they forced me to play piano lol In my never-ending search for the best wontons in Richmond (Vancouver is whole other ballpark!) my dad and I found ourselves at Tsim Chai Noodles! If there's one thing my dad likes more than Yum Cha, it's congee!! Nothing like some HK breakfast to calm the soul! ;) Tsim Chai is known for their wontons, but personally I thought they were just okayy haha. I still prefer MaxNoodle, Mckim Wonton Noodle Saga and Old Buddies (for their gigantic tennis sized wontons!) They're located on Westminster Highway right by Banzai Sushi! So the next time you're thinking about stuffing yourself with puck sized house rolls...consider going for some bellay warming congee next door! ;) Liver & Fish Dace Congee $6.25 3.5/5 stars Nothing like a bowl of steaming congee to get you up in the morning!! ;) This was a pretty large bowl, with generous helpings of liver, fish balls, and a few pieces of fish fillet!! The congee was really flavourful but the consistency was more on the watery side. I would have preferred if it was thicker. But overall, a pretty decent bowl of congee!! HK Milk Tea 3/5 stars My dad had his usual HK Milk tea, and he didn't have any complaints!! Oddly enough whenever we go to restaurants my dad gets iced milk tea, but when he eats in a food court he always orders it hot LOL. HK Lemon Iced Tea 1/5 stars I love ma hk iced tea!! HK iced tea is just so much better than regular iced tea!! ;) ...but this was a really disappointing version. I've had HK iced tea all over Richmond, and this was probably one of the worst. It didn't have

Cheap! Skimps on meals! I o.... Cheap! Skimps on meals!
I ordered congee from there and on my "special chicken" congee I literally got 1 chicken slice. It also tasted a lot more bland than other congees I've had before. The service was not bad but definitely not good either.

I only go there for the Wonton. Grew up eating their wonton noodle soup and it's amazing as always. Doesn't cheap out with their filling (Shrimp : Pork ratio) Other foods are notable but if you skip out on the wonton noodle soup, you're missing out!

Loud staff ok food. Coming in here, I feel like I am eating at an extinct food stall in HK. the servers are very loud and I can hear all their conversations unwillingly. the food is decent, food portion is small for the price point.

Big wontons!. Can't go wrong with huge crunchy wontons and perfect egg noodles. I always order the basic wonton noodle soup (for $5) and a side plate of vegetables. Noodles are the perfect "chewy" texture and approximately four large wontons with big pieces of shrimp.

Their late-night menu starts at 8pm (for Cantonese style mini-meals) but they are only open late (ie until midnight) on Friday and Saturday nights.

As several other diners have noted, this is a cash only restaurant.

Sui Kau!. Love the sui kau (wonton with mushrooms). Huge, delicious, crunchy wonton. I'm also a fan of the deep fried wonton - great flavour. Lots of msg - so be aware. Always reliable for cheap and good food.

LOUD SERVICE!!!. Small portions, taste is ok, average prices,
waitresses talk among themselves too LOUD.

I come here for the Wonton and Shui Kai. These are large and juicy Cantonese style dumplings.. :)

Great Wonton. Went to Tsim Chai to try their award winning wonton noodle soup. I got the wonton with the beef tendon and although the tendon had a peculiar smell and flavour, the wonton was fantastic: gigantic featuring huge prawns inside perfect skin.

Good congee. Baby friendly.

Bad Service!!. We arrived on time for our reservation, and led us to our table, tea served. My friend was looking for parking due to small parking lot. The manager asked us to surrender the table due to my friends were not arrived on time! This is totally ridiculous!! What a service!!

Date of visit: June 11, 2014 When I was a kid, our family used to go to Tsim Chai Noodles quite often. When we came, we always ordered the Chili Wonton , because both their wontons and spicy sauce were very good. Now we sort of prefer to dine in a HK style cafe restaurant, as we get more variety of items to choose from, but we sort of forgot how great the food is here at Tsim Chai Noodles . My boyfriend and I decided to come to Tsim Chai Noodles for the late night menu after catching a movie in Richmond. Price has definitely increased quite a lot comparing to the last time I was here, which was probably two years ago. I believe there's $1 increase on average for every item. Congee is included if total bill is $23 from the late night menu, which is $3 more from before. We ordered Spareribs with Garlic & Honey , Beef with Pineapple & Green Pepper in Satay Sauce , and Pan Fried Clams . The Spareribs with Garlic & Honey is still as good as before. Spareribs were super crispy, and full

I really enjoyed my wonton noodle soup at Tsim Chai Noodles; so much so I think they are my preferred wonton noodles soup in the Lower Mainland. After finishing my meal there, I wondered why it took so long for me to return.
Two Hungry Piglets
Of course we had to try this dish - it's what they won awards for! I'm also a sucker for a shui kau... So how was it? Nice flavorful broth, al dente noodles - almost crunchy which I love for this kind of noodle, and the wontons.... The wontons were packed full of flavor (aka probably lard), tons of prawns with a nice thin skin. The shui kau were also the same with lots of seafood, crunchy veggies and lots of flavor. Mr. Piglet is generally indifferent to this dish and he thought it was quite good as well. I honestly haven't had a good bowl of wonton soup in a while and it was nice to get those familiar tasty flavors again. I'm coming back for a bowl for sure.

I really like the wontons here, and I know some people that come here to order this.

My family eats here on a regular basis, good portions, taste and decent pricing is always a good enough reason for us. This time was no different. After a long day of driving around and running errands, the whole family (including colleen) was super tired and hungry. The easiest decision of the day was to end up here for a quick meal. It's not as busy as it use to be but that's better for us. Tsim Chai Noodles 8251 Westminster Hwy, Richmond BC Tel#: (604) 273-6288 The interior decor in nothing special, very typical chinese restaurant. Parking here sucks too but it is because there are 3 other restaurants in this same lot. Once we got seated and stuff, we all decided to pick an item each of the menu and go from there. My dad's choice is their sweet and sour pork . Its pretty well done here, it has the right crispy texture on the pork and the sauce ain't too sour or too sweet. As you can see from the picture, they are fairly generous with the p

Three words - Monster Prawn Wontons. This place has one of the best wontons, boiled or deep fried, that I have ever had. I discovered this place years ago through my friend and fellow foodie Eric. I was a starving college student back then and a bowl of w

Cheap food, quick service, what more could you want? The signature item here is their famous, award-winning wontons. The congee is also quite popular at Tsim Chai - try the preserved egg and salted pork jook. (FYI: Congee and jook both mean 'rice porridge'). We've eaten most dis
