Review L'opera Patisserie - Richmond

Leo Poon
Came here last summer, in a nutshell - food is decent (great presentation, mediocre in taste) - price is fair - service is okay The food presentation is better than most hightea places in my opinion, the chef put quite amount of thought into each dish (from the edible spoon, ice ring, for the seafood, flamingo / swan puff...). The dining environment is great, my girlfriend enjoyed the overall dining experience, this place worth the second time visit and see what else seasonal menu is available.

Back for High Tea again to celebrate a friend’s birthday and it was absolutely perfect as always. This year’s Winter menu was delicious. Every time I see their menu it blows my mind what they can do. I challenge anyone to find such a perfectly prepared lamb lollipop at any other High Tea menu. The High Tea experience is basically a luxurious multi-course tasting menu. The atmosphere is fantastic, from the decor to the table setting all super adorable. Best High Tea experience in Vancouver.

Cute place with beautiful-looking pastries and cakes. I have only tried their croissants and loved them. I especially enjoyed the matcha croissant and salted egg yolk croissant. However: 1. Get take-out. Only 1 staff working when I went. She juggled between cashier, waitress, server....and got a couple of our (simple) orders wrong. 2. Croissants come in different sizes and shapes..fairly inconsistent; point to the one you want when ordering.

Their $55 high tea set is the best high tea you can get in Vancouver! It's pricey but so worth it as you can taste the effort that goes into every single item. They always have super unique ingredients like octopus, lobster, scallop, escargot...etc. Make sure to call ahead and book! Best money you'll ever spend.

This place has it's own characteristic, just like a small cafe in Paris. It's not new and modern but it has a strong French vibe. Their cakes are excellent, many layers of taste and look very pretty! We opt to dine in and we enjoyed every bit of the cake. However, the lady at the cashier forgot to bring us water (hence, 1 star deducted). Saw many people coming in and out to buy macaroons, but I am never a fan of macaroons so I didn't try

Came here for 1 year anniversary with the GF. The menu was excellent. This is my 3rd HighTea and by far the best. Enjoyed the Lamb. Only things I thought could use more work, the oysters could be crispy. Everything else was very good.

Nice cozy little tea place, very friendly service. Seems like it's family run. Because the menu items are so good, this place is quite polular and can be quite busy. Strongly recommend making a reservation, the place is TINY and doesn't seat many. Definitely worth it though. Would definitely come back :)

My first time at this small pastry restaurant, recommended by others. It’s small - half a dozen or so small tables. There was a display of sweet pastries which we by-passed, going straight to the several types of croissants. Of course, we had heard of the salted duck egg yolk one. It was delicious, flaky, crunchy and oozing of egg yolk. My favourite, though, was the masago croissant. It had just the right amount of fish roe. I had the Mediterranean Rooibos tea with mine. I checked out the high tea menu and will definitely return.

Very expensive and the cakes were not good at all.... I wonder why it’s so highly rated. The lady that works there won’t even bother greeting you.

Matcha Crepe cake is awesome! It is not too sweet, and with a strong flavor of matcha. If you are a matcha lover, you must have a try! The only problem is that the room is too crowded.

I visited L'opera last month for the first time and bought their rose and chestnut and mango tart because I love tarts

• there is no parking around the restaurant but there is across the street. You might have to check out the stores across the street to save $ for parking or otherwise pay parking where Sheraton hotel is
• this is a very small place, its perfect for 2 people either meeting up with your bff or partner
• not a lot of sweet desserts to choose from but I'm sure it will satisfy your palate
• share a piece or 2
• Debit or cash if less than $15, more than that credit card ok

For my birthday, my dear friend Liane treated me to high tea at L’Opera Patisserie in Richmond. Much like many other high tea places, you must make reservations (at least 24 hours). There were 13 items on our tier and we were able to choose whatever tea we pleased. This French bakery is a little slice of heaven in Richmond. Walking in to it’s ornate salon area complete with wicker chairs, red and gold wallpaper and lots of crystal and gold touches, it’s very cute.

I would never go here again and I would spread my words out, especially on all my we chat groups and other social media!!!!! I had been there 2 years ago and I loved this place. However, the high tea experience we had yesterday is totally unacceptable. I brought my mom there for her very first time as we thought it would be the same.
The place is super small and packed and we knew this already before we go. However, the place was super cold that you couldn't even take off your jacket at all and we asked them to turn up the heat, the reply was that they can't otherwise their fridge would become foggy. Can't they just turn it up first to at least warm up the air and then turn back down? We were the only customers there when we requested that. We paid for $55 per high tea and there were 4 of us. This is the most expensive high tea in the city and couldn't we just deserve to have a better environment and at least we can sit back and relax and enjoy the high tea? Second, the food was just too heavy and salty and made you can't finish the whole set when It would have been so easy to finish at other high tea places (if you are reading this, try soffee cafe on 8th Ave and you will just love that place) We had to packed the sweets back home. Thirdly, the chair that they have provided was broken and we have to change to some other chairs ourselves. The chairs were so old. Fourthly, we were asked to choose one macaroon for each from their display. Many had been sold out and not many choices left. However, they refilled the fridge after we have finished chosen it. So what does that mean? They wanted us to choose what's left and leave the fresh one for others? Overall, this is the worst but yet the most expensive high tea I have ever been to. This will be my only and last time there. If there's negative stars that I can rate, I would definitely do so. I should have given $0 tips

The place is small but neatly decorated. I went near closing so there wasn't a lot of people. If you're looking for high tea service in Richmond, this is one of the few choices outside of Vancouver and it's not bad. You need to tell them beforehand if you want high tea service so they can prepare for you. Had the matcha opera cake, the matcha flavor was very strong. I'd be interested to try their macarons and other desserts next time.

It was national macaron day and i decided to try more than one place, my first stop was L'Opera Patisserie and it did not disappoint! They had several flavours and all had the perfect bite and texture. The packaging was also adorable which never hurts (; . My one minor complaint is that they are a bit smaller than the average macaron size and so they are a bit more pricey, but still way more worth than a few other places I've tried in vancouver!

I was searching for high tea restaurant in richmond and didn't know there's one near richmond center so I came here with my sister. The high tea is $45 per person. The set looks very nice. It's too bad they don't have vegetarian ones. Everything taste pretty good and its so cute.
Domo Is Craving...
Last weekend my friend and I decided to try out L'Opera Patisserie High Tea. I've heard mixed reviews about this place so I really didn't know what to expect here. Their location is part of the Marriot hotel and is across from Mui Garden in Richmond. They have parking in the back, so take a look there before you drive up to the parkade. My friend and I didn't know so we drove up the parkade and parked relatively far. We had to cut through the hotel in order to exit out in to the main road until we reached their little cafe. Also, the parkade is not free... so I think we paid like 6 dollars for 2 hour parking. Their interior is extremely small. The tables were pretty close to one another and walking space is very limited. Nonetheless, the interior decor is extremely cute. To see more of the interior, watch our youtube video:

Do yourself a favour and order the macarons! We are not the biggest macaron fans, but the macarons here are outstanding! However they are a little pricey ($2 a piece), but totally worth it. The strawberries and cream and the apricot passionfruit were the highlights! We also ordered the cabana pastry, even better than the macarons. The matcha cake was average at best, we wouldn't recommend it. We will definitely be back and will try the high tea.
Pork_ninjas
The macarons here are absolutely delicious. I recently received a box of size macarons in assortments and they are just too good to share! The interior is so very cute and cozy, the tables are decorated with adorable high tea plates, cups, teacups and cutlery. Stepping into this place is like stepping into a princess's tea room. The texture of the macaron is nice, I like that the filling is not too sweet and it was nice and light, and the flavour is really sharp and on point. When you bite into the macaron, it kind of bounces back and you can really taste the fresh almond taste. The instructions on the box says to leave them at room temperature for a bit before consuming which I think does make a difference from when you first remove them from the fridge. I would recommend the salted caramel, green tea and the berry one.

I came here for a friends birthday and was lucky enough to snag the LAST table at the front of the window. The macaroon options were very scarce, so there weren’t many options. So we ordered and sat down for the arrival of the goodies!!. The last time I went to Etude L’opera was when it first opened. I remember going in the first few months it opened, and I didn’t think it was very good at all.

AWESOME!! Love this place!! I can't believe there's a real pastry shop in such an inconspicuous location. I've told soooooo many people about this place. All of their cakes are divine! Their croissants are the BEST croissants I've ever had! They are totally worth the price!!! Their macarons are a bit on the pricey side for the price, but I like that the flavours aren't artificial and they don't make the macarons some wacky, unnatural colour. So many other shops (even the high end ones) used so much artificial colouring and the macarons are so saturated in some disgustingly bright colour. L'Opera does it right!! Highly recommended!!!

Last week my friend and I had a great high tea experience. It was my birthday week so this was the present I got from her. We always wanted to try their high tea here but it’s always full booked. The place might be small but inside the interior was very elegant and beautiful. People who works here were very hospitable and gave us a very good service.

Afternoon tea is one of my stomach's favourite (and my wallet's least favourite) type of food and it's easy to see why - exotic tea, decadent scones, mini sandwiches, and beautiful pastries. For a long time, many of Vancouver's high tea destinations have been located downtown or in Kerrisdale. Thankfully for Richmonders, these past few years have brought our part of town a few tea cafes of our own, L'Opera being one of them. Located under the Marriott Hotel, L'Opera is almost invisible from the street but one look inside and you can tell that this little shop oozes with European influence.

L'Opera Patisserie is the best yet busiest dessert place in Richmond. They always have yummy cakes, macarons and beverages for good price! It's a tiny cute store that is always busy with lots of customers and friendly service! It'd be nice if there could be more seats and if the store could be bigger. :)

L'Opéra Pâtisserie in Richmond is one of the dessert places that serve amazing French pastries. I've made a few trips to L'Opéra and every visit was satisfying. Amazing desserts, friendly staff and adorable, cute interiors!

One of my favorite high tea places! :) Great and friendly servers! Even though it's a small place, they serve delicious sweets and food. The place is clean and neat. Would highly recommend others to go there!

Atmosphere 1/1
Adorable and well decorated! Entering this shop is like discovering a haven decked out in French decor. They have wallpapered and selected gorgeous furniture and furnishing for this bakery. I love it, excellent place to hide out with your friends to catch up or even solo with a cup of tea/coffee and some pastries.

Service 1/1
They are so thoughtful that it almost bordered on hovering ! I was there for their afternoon tea and The lovely ladies made sure the teapots were always full and that plates were changed often so you are always dining comfortably. They also were attentive to the other guests.

Food 1/1
This is one of the best spring/summer afternoon teas I have had in the greater Vancouver region! They have very unique savouries and desserts. The style is more French than English, and the food done very well. Each pastry was a delight. I thought I wasn't going to be able to finish everything in the beginning but everything was so good that before I knew it... I ate it all!

Price 1/1
It was $45 for afternoon tea, pricey but worth it. The food, service, and atmosphere was delightful. We didn't feel rushed at all, and they have really mastered the art of fine details.

Personal 1/1
I came here for afternoon tea and loved every moment of the experience. I'd even come out here for a spot of tea and some of their mouth watering pastries. Definitely recommend L'Opera!

This place is soo adorable. From the decor, music and pastries, they all just want me to stay a while longer. I ordered a raspberry mille fueille to try. The pastry itself is very flaky and has nice buttery notes. The sweet cream compliments the raspberries well (especially since I got a few sour ones... but hey at least they are fresh). Would love it more if it has an extra layer of pastry and cream in between. Service was spectacular.

Another coffee date, this time at the infamous L’Opéra Pâtisserie, known for their fresh ingredients and irresistible macarons. Located just by the Marriott hotel, there is ample of parking, just not sure if most of them are safe. From minor details such as wallpaper, tableware and cutlery, walking into L’Opéra is like stepping into a time machine, bringing you back to the Victorian Era. We wanted to try their high tea, but unfortunately that will have to be booked 48 hours in advanced. So instead we just ordered a few cakes and a drink, grabbed a table and started our nonsensical chatting.

Great hidden gem. It's an adorable place to have high tea!
food is made by the owners and the employees are very nice

Adore this place.. PROS:
- Venue is very well-decorated and looks beautiful
- Tea is great
- Blueberry dessert was so delicious
- Pistachio cake was great
- Friendly workers

CONS:
- SMALL place (they need to expand)
- Not a fan of the hours

Love their macarons and croissants. But their $45 "winter" afternoon tea was kind of ridiculous. And most of the desserts are not great. For example, the banana mille-feuille and peche desserts.

-----14 Jan, 2015-----

Afternoon Tea. Have always liked their croissants but thought their $45 "winter" afternoon tea was overpriced.

Better than expected!. I finally had a chance to eat at L'Opera and it was worth waiting for. The lemon tarte was delicious, the almond croissant was light, flakey and scrumptious. Good coffee too!
I only wish that it was open at night, as it would be a perfect place to go for coffee and dessert, after watching a play at Gateway Theatre.
The ambiance was perfect. Felt like being in Europe!
LW
The ambiance and pastry was great. Free parking is a bonus and no comparable kind of spot in Richmond. The only negative other than the high prices is the coffee. The coffee was weak in flavour.

Chewy and fruity macarons. Macaron $2 - The macarons are on the smaller size. I read from a blog saying that they don't use artificial flavourings. I really liked the chewy fruity fillings (pineapple and passionfruit). Very refreshing but the mango didn't taste like mango. That one was a little artificial and the flavours did not stood out that well. The chocolates and coffees ones were okay. I will probably go back for the fruity ones.
Croissant $3.1 3/5 - very buttery but it reminds me of the ones from Costco. It's not that i don't like it but it doesn't worth $3. It was a little too buttery for me. I had to use a few pieces of napkins.
Lulu $6.2 3.5/5- Not as sweet as I thought it would be. The lady described it as coffee creme brulee. It was nothing like that. A layer of wafer + sponge cake + 1/2 opera macaron covered with a layer of light coffee pudding. The coffee pudding was too thick for my liking. I only ate 1/2 of it.
I don't know how many parking spots they have but I could only find one at the back. Since the place was packed with afternoon tea diners so I decided to order take out. I hope they can provide clearer instructions on parking.

Best lattes my wife ever had. We found L'Opera Patisserie while staying at the nearby Marriott in October 2013. The L'Opera Patisserie served the best lattes my wife ever had! The Americano and pastries that I had were delicious too. The pastries that this shop sells are very memorable and we talk of them often in our discussions about our trip to Richmond.

Worth every calorie. This little gem of a coffe shop is defs a keeper! The almond croissant is truly to die for! The ambiance more than make up for its tiny space. This will be my new fave place!!!

Richmond's best-kept secret for high tea. Hate to share this because I don't want it to book up so quickly for the many times I plan to come back...however, L'Opera is a marvelous place to have high tea. I truly enjoyed every bite of their delectable, house-made pastries. As well, the flavours in their L'Opera tea is delightful, and the staff were very attentive to our needs. In addition to offering great value and a very peaceful atmosphere, over all, L'Opera provides a highly authentic and elegant (and delicious) experience!

Authentic French Pastries. It's like being in Paris, the baked goods are that good. Come for the croissants. Setting is elegant but very cramped. We got stuck in a back hallway with people passing us to go to the bathroom. Oh well. Take out might be a better option.

The BEST macarons I've ever eaten!! Must try the L'Opera Special, Amaretto Cream and Earl Grey flavored macarons!! Super friendly service and also the most delicious Almond Croissants ever! Their duck pie is just as great! I can't find anything bad to say!!
Phyllis Tsang
The tea and pastries are good. But the macaroons are not what I expected. The pastry prices are a bit steep.

Most delicious pie ever!. Came here once with the girlfriend. The sparse seating does not give a good impression, although the decor is very nice. We were lucky enough to find a seat! If you want a table, definitely call in for a reservation.

I chose a "duck and mushroom" pot pie, while my girlfriend chose some kind of chocolate mouuse-type dessert. (I have no clue what it was called). The duck & mushroom pie was the most delicious pie I have ever eaten... Perfectly flaky and buttery crust, amazingly flavorful filling. The mushrooms were not overcooked and still had the crunch, while the duck brought a nice richness to it. We ended up getting another pie. :)

I am not a big fan of desserts, but my girlfriend said her chocolate mousse(?) cake was very well made. From what I could tell, it had a good level of sweetness and was not too rich, while not too plain. It was good and all, but the pie was better.

As I said, the place is decorated very nicely - If you do get one of the nice seats, your company will be very pleased. Staff are nice, and washroom is clean.

IMPORTANT: This cafe is located on the ground floor - it was a bit difficult for me to find it. The sign says L'Opera and there is high tea decor by the window. Another reviewer noted that there is free hotel parking nearby - I was stupid and got pay parking.

Macaron-licious. I have yet to try their tea/pastries, but their macarons are to die for. I like how their macarons are not overly sweet; you can actually taste the flavour of the macarons. The fillings are soft and creamy. The outside is not too crunchy. When you bite into them, they don't fall apart. They have around 15 flavours to choose from. One of my favourite ones is the blueberry macarons; they have a real blueberry inside. How awesome is that? They are by far the freshest macarons I have ever had and definitely one of my favourites.
Starcookie
High tea. I went there with a couple of my friends for high tea on a Saturday afternoon. Not only they screwed up our reservation and gave us a smaller table than expected, we were asked to pay the bill and leave as the reservation after us had arrived. What a surprise as no one informed us that there were time limit for high tea. Surprisingly for a small place like this that they would ask you to go to the cashier to pay instead of bringing the bill to your table. We were not satisfied with their customer service.

Well, let's talk about their tea and pastries. The three tiers were presentable and nicely placed. There wasn't that many tea selection but that's ok with me. Their pastries were nice. I would buy their pastries for next time but I won't go back for high tea.

My review is not favorable if one is planning to go for High Tea.
In our case we made reservations early, more than a week and a half in advance. Our reservation was accepted for 3:00pm. This was for five ladies to celebrate one special birthday.
At 9:30pm the night before the tea we were phoned to say the reservation had been mislaid and our time slot was taken by someone else. We were told we could come an hour later at 4:00pm. We were assured that there would be a table ready to accommodate five people.
When we arrived at the set time there was no table available and no place to wait unless one was face to face with the people trying to enjoy their tea. An impossible situation and very claustrophobic. Also as the diners were no where finished with their tea it did not appear as if a table would be ready any time soon.
Five very disappointed women walked out of there without having High Tea.

I would not recommend "L'Opera Patisserie" for HIGH TEA!!!

Truly heavenly cakes. PARIS is the best one ever. And the server is 10 star. A complete 10/10 experience. I would recommend this to everyone. Once you go there you will know i am right. Enjoy !!!

Best croissant and freshest macaron i've ever had!. I work a few doors down and i couldn't be more happier about this upscale bakery being so close. i had a pistachio and a raspberry macaron and they were so fresh. you could taste the pistachios and there was a whole raspberry in the other. the owners let me know that everything is made every morning and you could really taste the difference. i've always been an advocate for thierry but after having these i'm so happy i don't have to drive all the way to downtown van for a good macaron. now the croissant...so light but so filling. i can't go on enough about this place. it's definitely going in my favs.

I really wanted to go to L’Opera Patisserie after seeing a few blog posts and pictures on instagram. I made reservations and dragged one of my friend here one day. Reservations are required and high tea is from 1-5pm Wednesday-Sunday. High tea is pretty pricey, it was 45$ per person and that’s not including tax and tips.

5951 Minoru Blvd, Vancouver, Richmond, BC Rating: 8/10 Doesn’t it feel like all of the macaron places are downtown Vancouver? As much as I love downtown Vancouver for its upbeat, ever-changing and up and coming atmosphere, I loathe the traffic and commute. L’Opera Patisserie is a cute little cafe in Richmond with cute macarons and pastries. Although my favourite macarons are still from Thierry, I liked L’Opera’s flavours. It helps that the macarons are smaller than most, because it lets you try more flavours without eating as much! Double baked almond croissant.
J At Vanbrosia.com
...not bad; really fragrant rose flavor, creamy, but the mousse was a tad dense; lychee gelee had strong notes of lychee, but only if you eat it on its own, otherwise the rose flavor just overwhelms everything; crust not soggy but could have been a LOT crisper

As a fan of the high tea experience and a lover of macarons and all pretty desserts, this one has been on my list of places to eat at for a long time. Mostly due to the inconvenience of having to drive out to Richmond. So with my high tea buddy available we made this our brunching destination. Calling a week ahead to make reservations I was delighted to hear that today would be when they updated their menu for fall, and it showed. The cafe was somewhat hidden, sandwiched between other narrow shoppes. Driving past, it wouldn’t necessarily catch your eye. Parking was convenient, but confusing. The lot was littered with alternating signs declaring an hour of free parking for those visiting the retail stores, and others reminding you to remember your stall number to pay at the machines. I, like the other patrons had to confirm with the clerk inside that our parking was covered by dining with them. The restaurant was decorated in a heavy Parisian theme with the music to match. I could ima
Long Live Feasts
Sitting in the cafe with my mom and having a little afternoon treat was so calming, especially with the dripping rain outside. Sometimes, I forget how much fun surprises are. With such a structured routine of waking up, having breakfast, going to school, doing homework, having dinner and then going to bed, a little change-up is a reminder of how there’s always room for fun. Making room for that balance is really what makes life worth living, and not so dull and mundane.

My friend had been ranting and raving about L'Opera for some time now, claiming that their macarons were some of the best she'd ever had. So of course, when she took me there, I had high expectations! The interior of the patisserie is absolutely beautiful. It's quite small, but very elegantly decorated. The first thing I noticed were the desserts... ...And then the macarons! I decided to go with a passion fruit macaron and a rose raspberry macaron, and a rooibos tea: I have to say that the macarons exceeded my expectations! The passion fruit macaron tasted incredible, and not artificial at all. And the rose raspberry, oh my, it was divine! It had an actual chunk of raspberry in the filling, which I absolutely loved. The only thing I didn't like was that the exterior of the macarons didn't have much of the crispiness that I prefer, but that's just an extremely minor complaint. Other than the delicious macarons, the tea was quite good as well. The staff at L'Opera was also very friendly,

I feel like I haven’t had desserts for decades…have to get some before my battery runs low XD My new charger today is L’opera~ It’s been opened for only three weeks, which means it’s super new and you probably are the first one who know about it among your friends! Heheee It’s a bit small but look at the furnishings!! Don’t you want to enjoy an afternoon tea there? Well I do! In fact, I was planning to have their high tea menu…but the server said we have to make a reservation for that 24 hours in advance… So, high tea postponed but I can still have some desserts anyway:DDD The pastries look great but we didn’t try. My targets are in the pic below… Yeah~>3< The macarons are so lovely~~that I’m so regret I didn’t order any… Latte Oh I love their tea set! You can add syrup (caramel, vanilla or hazelnut) but we didn’t add any. Tastes good. Earl Grey I prefer tea with desserts~ The earl grey smells very nice. Mont Blanc It’s yummy!! There is a strong fragrance of chestnut and it blends

My two favourites were the macaron (but I can’t remember what flavour I ended up selecting) and the mille feuille. I enjoy puff pastry layered with custard and/or whipped cream. Fresh fruit as part of the filling is a bonus.

The ambiance here is quiet and sophisticated. This pretty lavendar macaron is cassis flavoured. The cake I chose was named Paris and was delicious! There was a strong rum scent and smooth layers of chocolate and cream.

I visited this cake shop several times in the last month. I have to say I quite liked their beautiful decor! It’s perfect for photos. Tiny little cafe that only fits four tables with the looks of royalty, you do feel a little royal while you are in there. First time I went it was fully packed with tables of high tea services. So the three of us sat at a tiny table right by the entrance ordering individual cakes and macarons to test out. Blueberry Tart with an adorable lady bug chocolate – like their other cakes, every one of them are decorated with care. Mille-Feuille (Napoliean) – Previously I have had napolieans at lots of Asian bakery places and most of the time I don’t like it. Reason is the fluffy pasty is usually inside with cream around and very little fruits and lots of almonds.. and I think you can imagine how soggy the fluffy pastry will become after it sits with the cream for a while. So I sort of had this fear towards napoliean… XD But when I saw this one I thought maybe

I ordered the Earl Grey and Raspberry at $2 a pop. After watching Master Chef, I was surprised that the raspberry macaron had actual fruit in it because Gordon Ramsay bashed Lin for doing the same time. This one tasted too sweet, though. On the other hand, the Earl Grey was just perfect… Can’t say a
Every Day Is A Food Day
The owners are Asian, but had training in Paris, so the shop and decor are all very Parisian. When you open the box, you have a little note which tells you how long and how to store your macarons. They use natural and organic ingredients, so they can spoil if not kept properly. Green Tea, Caramel, Coffee, Chocolate, Pistachio, Rose The macaro

We also all shared a banana cake (I forget the French name for it). This dessert was amazing.

Some of the sexiest places in Paris is their Pastisserie. While the Eiffel Tower is dreamy, and day dreaming an escape to the winding cobblestone street in one of the city’s oldest big white church hill crest at Basilica of Sacre-Coeur is romantic; or the being lost next to a Foreign Sexy Accent at the Musee du Louvre is charming – still musing over Pierre Herme modern confections, techniques and flavors is slightly more satisfying. L’Opera Patisserie Richmond tugs some of those emotions unbeknown in Richmond (of all places). L’Opera Patisserie is tucked away on Minuro Blvd beside Hilton Hotel. Parking is in the back and it is in the most inconvenient location. I hate the fact of paying parking in Richmond alone, let alone fighting for a space amongst suitcases. The gorgeous gold foiled wallpaper, fireplace and chandeliers is romantic albeit very small. We took the window seat squished behind a group of Asian ladies of leisure. I recently discovered L'Opera Patisserie located on Minoru Road and Westminister, and honestly, it has changed my life. I now no longer have to transit all the way to downtown just to get my hands on some macarons because these at L'Opera are even better. They offer high tea, pastries, desserts, and tea, so it is a great little spot for catching up with friends. I absolutely love love love this quaint little patisserie and I never want it to leave my life.

L’Opera is a very small restaurant. You could probably see all the tables and chairs from the picture above. Hence, high tea’s are booked days in advanced. High-Tea Menu Their high-tea menu is $25 per person and must be booked 2 days in advanced with a minimum of 2 person. I don’t know who would go high tea by themselves. Cakes Macarons L’Opera offers a variety of cakes, pastries, and macarons. Croissants The Croissants, though expensive, but they are to die for. I finished with a Rumba ($5.80). Though diminutive in size, the dark dome packs powerful flavor. This rumba has both coffee mousse and salted caramel mousse, with praline topping above and chocolate sponge along with chocolate covered feuilletine flakes below. This creates an interesting textural experience, as the mousse melts away while the flakes and praline provide crispiness. Overall, the coffee and chocolate flavors linger in the mouth, sweetened by that salted caramel.

Polly and I met at LÓpera Patisserie for cake meet. LÓpera Patisserie is located across Mui Garden . One hour free parking is available in the hotel parking lot. Park at spot with no specific reservation sign. It is a small French patisserie which seats no more than 20. Polly had a Cappuccino which is strong in coffee flavour. I had a Matcha Latte. It left behind a layer of oily green settlement at the end; kind of weird. The croissants here are amazing. They are so big and airy. We shared a Pain au Chocolat. We also shared a few pastries. The pastries are $5.80 each; slightly on the pricey side but back by good quality. The above is Banana Milk Feuille. It has a puff pastry base shell filled with cream and banana and sprinkled with some sort of crumbs. Quite messy to eat.
