Awesome, authentic, delicious sushi and sashimi. Classic japanese dishes as well as 'fusion' style with western taste. I Highly recommend Ichiro Sushi. As a westerner who lived in Japan for two years, I assure you this is as close as you will get to going to Tokyo without riding on a plane. The Sashimi is excellent! Nice tender cuts, delicate flavour. The Kani Salad is amazing. Tuna Gomae is to die for!!! (if you're 'affraid' of trying raw fish, TRY THIS DISH FIRST... a) you won't realize its fish. b) it had an AMAZING taste, and c) you'll want to order more! Ebimayo is out of this world. The Nigiri sushi selection is very good - better than any I've seen outside of Japan with many many different types of fish. Maguro, O toro, Saba, Hamachi, Hamachi toro, and my favorite - UNAGI!!! And many more.
So many places around Vancouver do Japanese food, and Sushi, but it usually isn't authentic. It might be good, but, so is French food; as long as you call it French food. What so many 'Japanese' restaurants in Vancouver offer is not true Japanese food. Its western food done in a Japanese style, or, an 'asian' style, which could include tastes from many different places. It might taste good. But it isn't Japanese.
If you want to have a truly authentic Japanese meal in the greater Vancouver area, visit Ichiro in Steveston Village. Its a bit more expensive than a lot of places, but its worth every cent. The fish is delicious. So is the Lobster Special! The Sushi Chefs are nice! The service is good. The atmosphere is great. If you're looking for 'cheap' sushi, this is not the kind of place for you. If you are looking for over-sized portions, this is also not for you. Japanese food is small, it is delicate, it is tasty. First you taste with the eyes. Then the fingers. Then the mouth! If you want to experience great Japanese food, this is for you.
I found the service particularly good, with the server going out of her way to help us split the bill. The price is good, and the quality very good. I lived in Japan for a number of years, so am rather particular. Meets my standards.
We went to Ichiro Japanese Restaurant on yesterday (19-March) for my son's birthday lunch. The food was good and their services was warm n welcome! Especially they presented a complementary ice cream with a lighted candle on it and sing Happy Birthday to my son at the end of our lunch! Very touching indeed!
