This is a true find. I have not enjoyed eating out for a long time. We found this restaurant by accident and what a happy one it was. It is not fancy by any stretch and not a place one would find easily but, there are many choices to please everyone. The food came hot and it was all sooooooo good. I would recommend this to anyone whether vegetarian or not. I will return and try as many dishes as humanly possible. Bravo.

Had a nice dinner here with my daughter and husband on a weekend away. We had a nice noodle soup, and the rice noodles with tofu and veggies. We also had a nice eggplant dish. The food was tasty and the service was good. Not excellent, but it helped so much to find veg Chinese food so close to where we were staying in Richmond Hill. A great place to stop for dinner away from home!
Every time I visit this plaza, I noticed that this place is always packed with patrons. As we arrived around 8pm, there was still a five minute wait before a table freed up. On this dinner visit, we ordered the Bean Curd Stick with Stewed Beef ($8.99) and Seafood Fried Rice ($8.99). The fried rice was huge! Best of all, it was really good and I could not believe there was no real seafood in it at all. I don't know how they found all these mock ingredients to create the texture of real crab meat or squid. The Bead Curd Stick was chewy but the sauce had the right flavor with mushrooms and broccoli. As I looked around, all their portions are pretty impressive. They even give complimentary sago dessert for a happy ending!
We found this restaurant in an article describing the top vegetarian restaurants in Toronto. We decided to try it out on a Saturday evening. The place was quite busy and looks like an authentic, traditional Chinese restaurant. The menu is very extensive. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly. She quickly realized that we weren't familiar with various dishes and helped us select from the menu.
The food, was very good. In some cases, it was hard to believe that we weren't eating meat. To top it off, the food was very well priced. One word of caution - they only accept cash.
My wife and i love this restaurant, We brought my parents/ non veggies and they liked it, even my DAD lol.
We picked them for our wedding reception, the food was great. We ran out of food because our non veggie guess were eating more of the veggie food lol.
I love their veggie sweet n sour chicken, the veggie steak oh and their noodle dishes are yum yum.
This place gets my YUM YUM score.
Buddha Would Be Content. E: The Food here is as varied as it is focused. The vegetarian fishes come in fish, beef, chicken or pork flavours. These items look and taste like some of the faux meats and items served at Commensal downtown. It is amazing how versatile beans and tofu can be. The faux meats not only mimic the taste of meat, they also have the same texture. Given the variety of cloned meats the menu is typically Chinese: plenty of items in a variety of tastes and configurations.
For extra fun and heat try the sizzling vegetable hot plates. I tried a sizzling platter as well as the fried tofu - after examining the photograph in the menu and asking the waiter I was disappointed to hear they do not have stinky tofu despite being a vegeterian restaurant - and both were tasty and too large to be finished on the spot.
While they do cater to take-outters, a smaller selection is available near the entrance for walk-in customers to choose and take with them.

A: The restaurant is rather messy and unconsecrated with the typically cheap fluorescent lighting. On the night I was there it was half full, which could either be a function of the vegetarian specialty or the night I was there. It is well-lit and clearly marked from outside so one couldn't miss the rare all-vegetarian restaurant in the area.
The entrance is littered with Chinese newspapers, magazines and books including several tomes on Buddha - interesting. A wooden panel is the back-drop. Gourmet Vegetarian, incidentally, seemingly has a non-Chinese client base if the night of my visit was any indication.

T: The order was quickly taken. The meals arrived in short order and tea and water were not held back. The plaza has plenty of parking, yet is always full so parking in the back or in the underground is an option.

S: The service was fine and average to pleasant. The man who took the order and the woman who took over for the rest of the night spoke English well so communication was not a problem. The part where it all fell apart for me was when 'she' delivered the bill. "Tip is not included," she reminded us. Now, that is tacky, unnecessary and the surest way to make me tip less, if at all. Tip is optional and rarely included for a party of two. It was not to her benefit to 'demand' a tip.
I had wanted to eat at Gourmet Vegetarian, never had actually ended up there (hello Miyabi and Akasaka) and I am glad I finally did. It is tasty, different and likely healthier than many other choices.
This place is amazing!! Every time we've been, the food has been fantastic and the service is very quick. You are never waiting around to get what you want.
Love it. There are not that many true Chinese vegetarian restaurants in Scarborough/Markham/Richmond Hills area (what a shame). Gourmet is a good value one among the choices. Food tastes good but I find it a bit oily. But I am sure the oil is not lard, but vegetable oil :D.
The menu is organized in ascending order of prices, so you can price your meal cost easily.
This restaurant was bustling even at 2 p.m. in the afternoon especially on an important day of the lunar calendar. Their service is always prompt and friendly. Love this vegetarian restaurant!
