Review Restaurant La Grolla - Quebec City

Jessica Diep
Had such a lovely experience here. It was a last minute decision for us to dine here. We didn't make a reservation but the waitress, Julia, was able to make a table quickly for us and seated us quite fast. She was knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended the Trio Fondue, which we got. Great choice if you want to try a bit of everything. But the cheese fondue definitely took the cake. So if you only want to try one thing, definitely go for the cheese fondue. The beef fondue also comes with decent portions of meat. It was a great dining experience overall. Would recommend to come here if you're in the city.

Fondue dinner is our annual anniversary tradition …. And what better place to check out than a fondue restaurant right in the heart of Quebec City ! The restaurant is quaint; the decor is very cute and the staff are so friendly. We started off with the french onion soup - a soup which I had never had before. It made me wonder why I took this many years to try it ! Fantastic ! We then made our way to the second course of cheese fondue. We chose the Quebec cheeses and we were glad we did. Amazing ! Of course the best part is at the end; “la religieuse” it’s the salty goodness of the cheese that has crisped up at the bottom of the pot. The main course was fondue bourginone (pretty sure I spelled that wrong!) which was very different than the fondue chinoise we are accustomed to. This particular fondue is cooked in oil and paired with tenderloin. Their dipping sauces are homemade. We were so very pleased with the bourginone option ! Lastly was dessert; chocolate fondue with a variety of fruits and marshmallows. You can’t go wrong with dipping anything in chocolate but it was not “out of this world” or anything - but - a great way to end the meal. If you’re in Quebec City definitely go check this place out ! Unlike most fondue restaurants you will not end up smelling like the place upon leaving !

I totally recommend this place. We were visiting Quebec and really wanted to try traditional fondue. We got the 3 course special as recommended by our server and it was delicious! The atmosphere was also so cozy and the staff are so welcoming and help you out if it’s your first fondue experience, our server was so so so nice and he explained everything to us and was consistently checking in on our fondue. The meat was extremely tender and everything was tasty!

The food was fine, but the place is pretty run down. Seat cushions look like they were borrowed from your great grandmother's estate sale, and there was a funky smell to the place. The server was excellent. She was running the whole show, and did it with good humour. Interesting experience, but there's better options in Quebec City.

If you visit Quebec City, be sure to make a reservation at La Grolla Restaurant. Such good food and fait prices! Thanks to Andre for the great service! It was our 2nd visit, the first was 12 years ago approximately and it’s still just as tasty! Highly recommended!

My wife had the Bacchus Fondue which she thought was good but not great. She had the Surf and Turf and for the price she paid they could have supplied more seafood. The shrimp size was smaller than 21/25. I was looking forward to the cheese fondue and was terribly disappointed. I don’t know if it was the cheese they used or the process but it seemed watery or thinned out.It was also very salty. I have had cheese fondue in Switzerland and I have made it my self and it tasted better. I was a restaurateur in my previous life and maybe I have higher standards than most but I cannot recommend this place nor would I ever go back. The service was slow; the server was alone and I did notice one other person but he was busy in the back of the house.

Its a bit pricey, but the food tastes good. Sadly during this covid, it could be difficult to serve, but I wish they paid attention a bit on those who needed help on how to use the raclette and the fondue. It was my first time to use it and they didn't ask me if I knew how to use it or how to turn the fondue off if done (can burn the cheese). Overall, it was a great, but service was so-so.

If you're looking for a date night or family friendly authentic fondue place...look no further!! This place is an authentic Swiss restaurant with amazing choices for fondue. Wonderful service, cozy place and delicious food! Great for vegetarians as well!

Great little place that is unique and quiet but still located right in the heart of downtown. Perfect for romantic dinners! There is no rush when you eat fondue; expect to be there for a few hours and enjoy the swiss vibe and all the cheese. Chalet type decor with lots of wood accents and cozy feel. Get the table by the window for a nice view. On the menu; the triplette is the way to go. You get cheese fondue to start, followed by meat fondue and to finish maple or chocolate fondue! Enjoy :)

Quel merveilleux petit restaurant.

I had such a great experience. Just called for a reservation for thanksgiving holiday, we went for the fondue and were surprised with the great atmosphere, service and delicious food. The waitresses were so nice with us, they had patience explaining the menu and how things works and we were very well welcomed to the restaurant. I would definitely come back to taste a different meal from the menu and have another great night. Merci beaucoup guys!

We spent an afternoon walking around Old Quebec and when evening came and we started to feel hungry we turned to a local for a restaurant recommendation. He in turn called his wife who was born and raised in Old Quebec. She recommended La Grolla ... what better a recommendation! The kind gentleman that we had stopped in the street even called the restaurant and made a reservation. The restaurant was cozy with a warm ambiance. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with the menu. She was impressive for her good English that she had learned simply through serving in the restaurant. We ordered the triple fondue ... a cheese fondue followed by a seafood fondue followed by the most important, a chocolate fondue. Our evening was superb, totally un-rushed with just the right amount of service. This restaurant is highly recommended.

I had dinner here with a group of friends. The size of the party, our inexperience with Swiss foods & fondue, plus the fact that none of us could speak French, could have very well lead us to some difficulty. But that wasn’t the case here. Our server, Alexandra, was phenomenal, as well as the other staff assisting her. She was so helpful, patient, funny (joked around with us), make great recommendations, & was clearly very skilled at her job. The food was SO tasty. The atmosphere was superb. It’s a hole in the wall, feels very comfortable, welcoming, & authentic. Wonderful experience all around.

Great food, friendly staff, fantastic ambiance. Felt like we were in a ski chalet. Had the raclette, so good. Will definitely go back.

:) Mercii
