We planned a big food tour of all the restaurants based on reviews and menus all week. We were excited to try their brunch. As a foodie this was Disappointing mostly because of service. I wish we went somewhere else. Their menu is described as follows… at the door, on their website and the menu handed to you.
All brunch plates are served with: yogurt and homemade granola, mimosa alarm clock, organic rattes potatoes, organic fruits of Quebec, organic breads with cream of wheat, homemade jam, filter coffee or green tea. In addition you can choose one of 6 dish selections.
We were NOT offered yoghurt or granola, potatoes, bread or jams or coffee. I even had to ask for coffee. We did receive fruits and the mimosas. The coffee was watery and disappointing. No one came by for refills. The fruits offered were some bruised Macintosh apples and cantaloupe that looked like they were cut with a serrated knife.
Restaurants should not advertise what they do not offer.
I think the servers need to be educated and understand the menu because service is important. More importantly management should oversee the service if it’s important to them for customer satisfaction. The only disappointment in our Quebec City dining experience.

Fantastic place amidst the usual burger joints..!
We were pleasantly surprised with this bistro especially when we didn’t see a lot of crowd at this place. Most other bars and pubs on this street just serve the usual burgers and pizzas but this place had its own little touch and not to mention a fabulous presentation for everything we ordered!! Right from the breads to lasagna!
Oh also, the servers (boys) are pretty cute and welcoming too :)

My SO and I were staying at Hôtel du Vieux just upstairs and decided to give this restaurant a try one dinner. What we love about this bistro is that most other restaurants in Quebec City tend to serve the same few dishes (burger, fries, etc), whereas Bistro hortus offers dishes freshly made from local and organic produce, and it focuses on serving healthy dishes with French twists. Its menu also has quite a few vegan/vegetarian dishes. We ordered organic vegetable stir-fry (pearled barley, curd cheese, vegan black garlic gravy) and vegetarian lasagna made with "ferme manche de pelle," arugula salad, and chemin hatley cheese. Both dishes stood out amongst all the other meals we had in Quebec City. Will definitely return during future visits.

This restaurant has great vibes and a wonderful location. The venue is beautiful, and the service is very kind. The bread and salad were great. Fresh, warm homemade bread with salted butter, and super fresh greens with an amazing dressing.
Unfortunately, we really didn't care for the dishes that we ordered. It might have been us ordering the wrong thing but the veggie stir-fry and the smoked salmon dish were just objectively not good. It looked like other items on the menu were being enjoyed thoroughly by customers so maybe those two items were just a misfire and need to be removed from the menu.
I also ordered a cocktail which tasted alcohol-free. Overall the experience was very disappointing I'definitely would not recommend..
That being said, the location is amazing so if you were coming with friends and ordered the burger or other can't miss items you'd probably be okay.

Food taste is just ok, no wow, even though the description is so attractive and the presentation excellent. Not a taste inline with the price.
We'll come back for the home mimosas though.

Nice bistro located in Old Quebec. Amazing food and great presentation. Friendly staff. We enjoyed a fun dinner here last week on their terrace. Nice menu selection for all palates.
Since we are from out of the area, we decided to sample the Quebec cheeses and ordered a charcuterie which was plated with a chutney, some fruits and vegetables, as well as sauces and crackers. It was actually a very pretty dish in addition to being tasty. We also enjoyed a goat cheese salad made with local vegetables and a walleye tartare with a blackberry sauce.
The gin and tonic with violet syrup was yummy, as was the local beer on tap. We will definitely return here.

The presentation and ingredients were top notch, but I found it hard to enjoy my dinner as the entire plate lacked salt. I ordered the filet with the black currant sauce. There was no salt on the table and this felt like the type of restaurant where you don't insult the chef's seasoning approach, so I tried to push through it. The roasted vegetables on the side were perfectly cooked, they were not mushy, but again - flavorless without some salt. I'm pretty sure there was none on the dish at all so the entire plate was sweet on sweet.
