Time of Visit: Lunch on August 19th
Order: The Pontivienne crepe (mushrooms, onions, bacon, and cheddar cheese, with a white whine and fresh cream sauce), and The Extreme crepe (poached pear, vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, and almonds)
Pros: The crepes themselves, portion sizes, and pricing
Cons: Parking could be a minor issue as it is close to the tourist section of Old Quebec
Thoughts: We went to Quebec for one day of our trip to maine and stopped here for lunch. We both love crepes but I (having never gone to Europe) had never really had a true "French" crepe. The crepes were phenomenal, absolutely the best I have ever eaten, hands down. The savory crepe had the perfect balance of sauce, crepe, and topping. The white winter and cream sauce was to die for, had they served it in a bowl I would have thought about drinking it. The sweet crepe actually had an entire poached pear dipped in chocolate sitting on top of the crepe. It had just the right amount of ice cream and chocolate sauce; there was enough to get a little in each bite of crepe but not so much that the crepe itself felt drowned in the toppings. It is also worth mentioning that my brother who came with us had duck in his crepe and it was by far, the best duck I have ever eaten.
The portions on the crepes were also huge; if you were extremely hungry you could eat one on your own along with a desert but my wife and I split the the two crepes and it was plenty of food for a good sized lunch. While meal was a tad pricy (I believe we spent around $30 for the two crepes) the size of the portions more than makes up for it.
I really can not rave enough about how good these crepes were. It was like the first time you eat something and it just tastes perfect. I'm sure that if you ate her often you would fine things that you could improve on but for me, these were the perfect crepes.
Wow - this was the best meal of our entire vacation in Quebec City. I even took a picture of the menu so I could remember every aspect of my dinner. The service was wonderful - she even helped my daughter who tried to order her selection in French. The food arrived quickly and the atmosphere was nice and quaint. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
Merci Sarah Germain.
