We tried to obtain a reservation last September when visiting but couldn't get in. Success this time (May 2018), and it was worth the wait! We have eaten in most of the best restaurants in Quebec and many of the best in Canada, and this one is right up there for taste, presentation and inventiveness (e.g. the amazing foie gras dessert). Beyond the food, the whole experience is great fun thanks to Vincent and Benoit, perfect hosts.
A totally unpretentious out of the way location owned by a chef and his friend offer fabulous food and a wonderful dining experience. The wine list literally surrounds you on the chalk board walls. The menu (which is not a menu) changes daily and all is cooked fresh for you. Amazing duck, gnocchi, lamb and a foie gras dessert -- the best ever. Book early for this bistro experience.
Ive read about IX Bistro making a reservation for August 18th (3 months in advance.)
Was definitely worth it, this was the best place we have eaten at, during our 7 day stay in Quebec.
Do not let the location fool you, inside is a quaint causal vibe, with only 9 tables.
You will be greeted and treated like family .
There is only one seating, where you are never rushed , any questions will be humbly answered about the menu or selecting from a vast array of wines.
Anything you order on the limited menu is simply impeccable and so delicious..
Your host and chef are the only 2 people passionate people who prepare and serve you a dinner you will always remember
Hands down best meal and best experience I've ever had in a restaurant! The guys that run iX Pour Bistro, Benoit and Laurence have the perfect formula of great food, great service, great atmosphere and great banter!! The Foie Gras Signature is simply the best dessert on the planet and Benoit's Boston Butt is epic! The selection of wine is impressive and Laurence's knowledge and time taken to pair the right bottle to you is fantastic!
All in all the guys know their stuff and would love to go back again! Thanks Benoit and Laurence for an epic night!
The hosts were super friendly and passionate about what they do and made you feel right at home. Loved the cozy and relaxed setting and every single dish we ordered were amazing, including all three desserts on the menu (do it!). The horse tataki stood out for us because of its many creative components that lead to an explosion of flavours. Had fun trying new wines from their big wine list too. We were so glad we went, it was hands down our best dining experience in Quebec city.
The highlight of our honeymoon. What else can I say that hasn't been mentioned already! What stood out to me about this place was how they tinker with ordinary dishes and make them better. For example, they use chicken instead of beef broth for French onion soup, and used pastry dough instead of potato for their gnocchi.
Well worth the $$ and the staff was so nice! We we the last table and they both stayed to talk to us for a while before we left.
What an excellent little gem in a city full of excellent places to eat! We happened to snag a reservation after a recommendation from a coworker. Every bite of food lived up to the hype of all previous reviews. You cannot go wrong with any of their suggestions.
I had my doubts, especially the farther I got away from the Old City of Quebec where we were staying. I was not thrilled to be exploring this area and looking for parking in this much less scenic part of town. However, I was sooooo wrong. My wife is a foodie and had researched where she wanted to dine while we were still home in New York. It was the best food we had during our two weeks exploring not only Quebec City but many hundreds of square miles to the north. We tried many things that were available that night, all were excellent. Peruse pics from the others to get a sense. It is a two man operation both Quebecqois. The chef keeps to himself in the kitchen but the maitre de and co-owner is a true showman and loves to talk, take full advantage. And note the many wines, liqueurs and aperitifs; you can see them written on the chalkboard (they do change). MAKE A RESERVATION FAR IN ADVANCE. These guys are serious about serving their expected guests and they are always full as there are only a handful of tables. We got to witness just how serious the night we visited. An older guy popped in hoping to impress a much younger date without a reservation and the owner stuck to his guns no matter the added tales of woe (the guy got more and more dramatic about how disappointed the woman would be). You've been forewarned---so don't miss out. Book ahead.
Phenomenal meal. One of my best meals I’ve ever had.
The food is other-worldly good. The meal as a whole was beautifully thought out and the wine pairing was on point as well. The service was impeccable as well. The team that runs the place is very attentive to the patrons and very knowledgeable as well. Do yourself the favor of planning ahead to make a reservation. You won't be disappointed.
