This place delivers every damned time I go there. Granted, it's reflected in the price but you pay for what you get- quality sushi. The decor is also super dreamy for anyone into Iron Maiden and that kind of music. Definitely one of the best places to go for sushi in PoCo / Coquitlam and even makes my list for Vancouver. This is NOT one of those roll places where you get like... A crazy girl roll or some pimped-out california roll. This place is the real deal. I mean, if you don't know what omakase is, this place probably isn't for you.
The most amazing sushi I've ever had. This place is legit. Feels like your eating in Japan. For goodness sake he ships in the fish from the Japanese fish market. No rolls at this place. Only traditional Japanese fair and the most melt in your mouth sashimi. Get there right at opening or there is a wait. He is the only sushi chef but only cause he wants to control the quality. You can't rush that. It's soooo worth it.
This restaurant is amazing! I love the atmosphere as soon as you walk in – there is metal music playing, records and guitars on the walls, and music posters everywhere. The staff was very friendly and attentive. But the best part was the FOOD! Everything that I tried on the menu was amazing. I didn’t think that I liked anything but sushi rolls before I tried this place – now I don’t even want sushi rolls anymore! The sashimi is amazing, SO fresh and it almost melts in your mouth! I also tried the DTP burger which was fantastic, the food is phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi, and even if you think you don’t love sushi, this is the place to try!
After seeing pictures of aburi nigiri, I wanted to give this place a try. We arrived at around 7 and all the tables were full, so we waited about 20 minutes. It wasn't so bad. We were seated, but we weren't given tea right away. It actually took quite awhile for the server to come take our order and bring us tea. Throughout the night, service was just OK. It was a little bit on the slow side but wasn't super bad. The chef did end up bringing some of our dishes out though. I guess because it was taking awhile to get our food.
We had the tako wasabi, chopped scallop nigiri, aburi toro nigiri, appetizer sashimi, and ocean wiser roll. I'd say the food got progressively better. Tako wasabi was nicely presented, but it was small and didn't come with seaweed. The ocean wiser roll was ok. The ama ebi got lost with all the other things, so we couldn't really taste it. There was a lot of wild salmon in this roll though, which is nice, but it just overpowered everything. It still was a good roll. The sashimi was good and worth the price. We counted the pieces of fish, and it was actually more than what was said on the menu. It came with tuna, wild salmon, ebi, tako, and aburi saba. My favourite was the saba. It was really good and not too fishy. My boyfriend doesn't really like saba and he even said he liked it. The nigiri was the best part. Chopped scallop was good. The toro was so buttery smooth and delicious. I'd come back to eat it again. Alost considered ordering another one. It is quite expensive for one piece, but it is worth the try.
Overall the service was ok, but the food makes up for it. It just depends on what you order. The food is on the pricier side, with some being more worth it than others.
Sushi K Kamizato is located on Shaughnessy Street in Downtown Port Coquitlam. It is a traditional sushi house. Chef Keith Kamizato (K Kamizato) creates amazing sushi. His wife manages the restaurant, and she encourages customers to try the original taste of sushi without using soy sauce and/or wasabi.
Highly recommend to try the Chef's recommendations which are listed on the chalk board. 👍 Speak to K Kamizato for ordering secret dishes.
Super delicious here! 😍
A small sushi shop with a rock and roll theme! The sushi is so fresh and delicious that it will be hard to go back to regular cheap sushi once you've tasted the ones from here! The service is so cute and friendly and each time I always try something different that turns out to be just as delicious as the other items. Try the tuna goma e that comes in a martini glass! The only downside (besides their hours of operation) is that on nights that they are busy will have you waiting a while to get your order, but trust me in that it is soo worth the wait!
We went to try this "Rock and Roll" sushi joint after a couple of friends recommended it. It was awesome! On the down side it has probably ruined me having sushi anywhere else in Poco and is slightly pricier than most places. The waiter informed us upon arrival that there would be a wait as they were backed up with take out and the a few tables before us (great, thanks for letting us know! ) Service was spot on and the rolls came out slowly but that was fine and allowed us to really enjoy each one. The Signature Rolls....definitely interesting and worth trying, the Tuna Nachos...yum! The owner Keith was behind the bar with his head down making sushi the entire time we were there. Everything was fresh and offered something a little different from your typical sushi spot. The art ( a collection of Rock n Roll memorabilia and aerial pics from all over) are amusing and definitely something to look at. Will definitely be back. Looking forward to sitting at the bar an watching his mastery up close.
All dishes were really tasty! Not only Canadian-style cuisine but also Japanese-style cuisine,it was a taste that Japanese people liked. Cooking is top notch. All ingredients were fresh and it was soft as if it melted in my mouth. Owner and staffs were friendly and in a family atmosphere. If possible, I recommend you sit at the counter,so you will be able to feel the vibrancy of the restaurant. And it will be more fun if you go there with Japanese friends. If I have money and I can live in Port Coquitlam, I will go there weekly,or every other day, actually everyday!!It was a very nice restaurant that I enjoy food while listening to my favorite heavy metal music. Service is also satisfactory. It was worth coming from Japan. I definitely will go again!
One word... Amazing!! Well ok a few more.. Keith comes up with the most original and absolutely delicious creations. Highest grade sushi that just melts in your mouth. If you can... go for the secret menu !
This tiny rock and roll sushi bar has captivated me with both its food and it's music. The friendly ambiance and fast-paced service is definitely a plus. I'll definitely be back for more.
