This place delivers every damned time I go there. Granted, it's reflected in the price but you pay for what you get- quality sushi. The decor is also super dreamy for anyone into Iron Maiden and that kind of music. Definitely one of the best places to go for sushi in PoCo / Coquitlam and even makes my list for Vancouver. This is NOT one of those roll places where you get like... A crazy girl roll or some pimped-out california roll. This place is the real deal. I mean, if you don't know what omakase is, this place probably isn't for you.
The most amazing sushi I've ever had. This place is legit. Feels like your eating in Japan. For goodness sake he ships in the fish from the Japanese fish market. No rolls at this place. Only traditional Japanese fair and the most melt in your mouth sashimi. Get there right at opening or there is a wait. He is the only sushi chef but only cause he wants to control the quality. You can't rush that. It's soooo worth it.
This restaurant is amazing! I love the atmosphere as soon as you walk in – there is metal music playing, records and guitars on the walls, and music posters everywhere. The staff was very friendly and attentive. But the best part was the FOOD! Everything that I tried on the menu was amazing. I didn’t think that I liked anything but sushi rolls before I tried this place – now I don’t even want sushi rolls anymore! The sashimi is amazing, SO fresh and it almost melts in your mouth! I also tried the DTP burger which was fantastic, the food is phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi, and even if you think you don’t love sushi, this is the place to try!
After seeing pictures of aburi nigiri, I wanted to give this place a try. We arrived at around 7 and all the tables were full, so we waited about 20 minutes. It wasn't so bad. We were seated, but we weren't given tea right away. It actually took quite awhile for the server to come take our order and bring us tea. Throughout the night, service was just OK. It was a little bit on the slow side but wasn't super bad. The chef did end up bringing some of our dishes out though. I guess because it was taking awhile to get our food.
We had the tako wasabi, chopped scallop nigiri, aburi toro nigiri, appetizer sashimi, and ocean wiser roll. I'd say the food got progressively better. Tako wasabi was nicely presented, but it was small and didn't come with seaweed. The ocean wiser roll was ok. The ama ebi got lost with all the other things, so we couldn't really taste it. There was a lot of wild salmon in this roll though, which is nice, but it just overpowered everything. It still was a good roll. The sashimi was good and worth the price. We counted the pieces of fish, and it was actually more than what was said on the menu. It came with tuna, wild salmon, ebi, tako, and aburi saba. My favourite was the saba. It was really good and not too fishy. My boyfriend doesn't really like saba and he even said he liked it. The nigiri was the best part. Chopped scallop was good. The toro was so buttery smooth and delicious. I'd come back to eat it again. Alost considered ordering another one. It is quite expensive for one piece, but it is worth the try.
Overall the service was ok, but the food makes up for it. It just depends on what you order. The food is on the pricier side, with some being more worth it than others.
Sushi K Kamizato is located on Shaughnessy Street in Downtown Port Coquitlam. It is a traditional sushi house. Chef Keith Kamizato (K Kamizato) creates amazing sushi. His wife manages the restaurant, and she encourages customers to try the original taste of sushi without using soy sauce and/or wasabi.
Highly recommend to try the Chef's recommendations which are listed on the chalk board. 👍 Speak to K Kamizato for ordering secret dishes.
Super delicious here! 😍
A small sushi shop with a rock and roll theme! The sushi is so fresh and delicious that it will be hard to go back to regular cheap sushi once you've tasted the ones from here! The service is so cute and friendly and each time I always try something different that turns out to be just as delicious as the other items. Try the tuna goma e that comes in a martini glass! The only downside (besides their hours of operation) is that on nights that they are busy will have you waiting a while to get your order, but trust me in that it is soo worth the wait!
We went to try this "Rock and Roll" sushi joint after a couple of friends recommended it. It was awesome! On the down side it has probably ruined me having sushi anywhere else in Poco and is slightly pricier than most places. The waiter informed us upon arrival that there would be a wait as they were backed up with take out and the a few tables before us (great, thanks for letting us know! ) Service was spot on and the rolls came out slowly but that was fine and allowed us to really enjoy each one. The Signature Rolls....definitely interesting and worth trying, the Tuna Nachos...yum! The owner Keith was behind the bar with his head down making sushi the entire time we were there. Everything was fresh and offered something a little different from your typical sushi spot. The art ( a collection of Rock n Roll memorabilia and aerial pics from all over) are amusing and definitely something to look at. Will definitely be back. Looking forward to sitting at the bar an watching his mastery up close.
All dishes were really tasty! Not only Canadian-style cuisine but also Japanese-style cuisine,it was a taste that Japanese people liked. Cooking is top notch. All ingredients were fresh and it was soft as if it melted in my mouth. Owner and staffs were friendly and in a family atmosphere. If possible, I recommend you sit at the counter,so you will be able to feel the vibrancy of the restaurant. And it will be more fun if you go there with Japanese friends. If I have money and I can live in Port Coquitlam, I will go there weekly,or every other day, actually everyday!!It was a very nice restaurant that I enjoy food while listening to my favorite heavy metal music. Service is also satisfactory. It was worth coming from Japan. I definitely will go again!
One word... Amazing!! Well ok a few more.. Keith comes up with the most original and absolutely delicious creations. Highest grade sushi that just melts in your mouth. If you can... go for the secret menu !
This tiny rock and roll sushi bar has captivated me with both its food and it's music. The friendly ambiance and fast-paced service is definitely a plus. I'll definitely be back for more.
First time, I went with my friend and we ordered a roll, tuna nacho and a salad. Food is a bit expensive but it tasted delicious! I definitely want to go back and try new foods on the menu because they might add new food to it!! I recommend to go for great Japanese foods!
There are two things about Sushi K that make it a step above any other sushi restaurant I have been to in Vancouver. 1. It has the best sushi in Vancouver. 2. The atmosphere is amazing, you can tell as soon as you walk in that you’re in a special place.
Every time the food has been amazing; this place has by far the best sushi that I have ever had! From the rolls, to the sashimi, to the nachos (make sure you try the nachos!) everything is fantastic. It’s authentic, high quality, super fresh, and delicious. The owners and staff are always incredibly friendly and the service is always amazing. And the décor is completely different than any sushi restaurant I’ve been in, in a good way. There are instruments, signed posters, and records on the walls, and the music is always rock or metal. You can tell the owner is really passionate about both sushi and music, it shows in the great name choices of the rolls! Although it’s a bit of a drive from Vancouver it is 100% worth it for the food! And even if you’re not interested in rocking out while you eat, you’ll still have a great time enjoying the best sushi in Vancouver.
I was visiting my relatives nearby and was craving for some sushi. After shopping at SHOPPERS we found this lil restaurant squished between a gym and a salon. A must go to place! If you are an adventurous type, try looking at the white board ( try every nigiri if possible... seriously!)
So good! Best sushi in the greater Vancouver area. The passion and perfect blend of different flavors really sets them apart from everyone else. I'm always coming here for my sushi from now on!
Ambiance was totally different from most places. You walk in and there are bass guitars on the wall, rock memorabilia, and Iron Maiden blasting in the speakers.
The service was prompt, friendly, and informative. The chef filled us in on any dishes that were out of the ordinary, and the servers were extremely polite.
The sushi itself was fabulous. I always try house rolls, and I was not disappointed. The sauces/toppings that he added were out of the box and worked really well (the mango salsa on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Roll" was fabulous). Also, if they suggest the garlic sauce on any of their rolls (I had it on the California roll), take it. So good.
A bit pricey end in the area, but it worth the price. No weird Sushi, real Sushi, here!
I can order Sashimi without worry. Traditional menu to contemporary rolls and appetizers; I love Asian Nachos.
I like their interior, too; unlike most of place which put up fake Japanese/asian mix interior, this place is not asian at all.
Heavy metal guitars, pictures, LPs etc with BGM is heavy metal and rock! It's a good change.
Service is good and family friendly, too, as long as you are ok with the interior. Our kid loves this place.
There are lots of little Sushi places in downtown Port Coquitlam, this place is a jewel! It's a small restaurant with limited seating and yet people come from all over to try the sushi here. The decor is unique for a sushi place, lots of hard rock memorabilia and album covers on the walls. There are many special and unique rolls at this restaurant. I have to keep coming back here because there are always more rolls and nigri to try.
if you're just into California rolls and miso soup don't come here. this place is for people that like to challenge their taste buds. the secret menu is legendary. name another sushi place that has the balls to use ghost and scorpion peppers in their dishes. next time you go in ask for a mr. crawley or the audience is listening. pure magic.
I never had sushi or Japanese food in Port Coquitlam. Looking up on Yelp to see which Japanese restaurant was good or above average, this was the one! This Japanese restaurant has a rock and roll interior design including the bathroom. Very cool. Usually Japanese restaurants have Japanese design or Asian style, but this one is very unique!
I came here for dinner. Surprisingly the restaurant was not busy at all on a Friday night! No wait. Got a table right away and received great service. There were two servers and two chefs. One of the servers gave a brief introduction of their food and menu. Their menu design is tiny and there are not too many choices comparing to the ones in Vancouver.
I ordered a BC roll, Albacore crunch roll, special scallop and appetizer sashimi. All of the food tasted great. Only the portion was smaller.
I thought the prices at this restaurant in Port Coquitlam would be less expensive comparing to the ones in Vancouver but surprisingly their prices are the same as Vancouver's. I could find cheaper prices at Sushi Ville on Commercial Drive.
Overall it was a good experience at this restaurant. If you ever visit Port Coquitlam and look for a good Japanese restaurant, you should try this one.
Came 3 times so far, the food and atmosphere has been impeccable. Well worth the trip out from downtown van. The rock music decor gives it a unique feel. They recommended to come on Thursday for fresh fish and it was well worth it.
Great Japanese restaurant in the area although it might be a little hard to find if you are not familiar with the location.
Good: delicious and fresh. Love all the sashimi and the chef's recommendation.
Interior: very different from your typical Japanese resto. There's some rock n roll flare to it.
Make sure you make reservations or go before 6:00 pm as the place gets packed very early ....
AMAZING SUSHI! Chef Keith's creations are so unique and so full of flavour, you will be advised not to use soy sauce and it is SO worth it! This is the one and only place to go for out of this world sushi, it's all fresh and you will drool over the special blend of flavours in each dish!
Came here for date night on Friday at 7pm before heading to Russell peters show and boy was that a mistake. Been wanting to try this for so long and came here on the wrong night. Don't get me wrong the food is really good! The chef cares so much about the freshness and the flavor that he will make his patrons wait 30 minutes before they get any food. The restaurant was packed when we got there so we sat at the bar and ordered 6 beers before we got food. The owner and staff is definitely nice and attentive but do not come here on a weekend if you have plans later. The best dish we had here was the Tigers eye and the albacore crunch roll. If you have time, this place is a good one to try!!
This is my 1st review i have ever written, but i was so inspired by this experience that i feel the need to write this. Such an unassuming location, out of the way in a strip mall in Port Coquitlam, what a hidden gem!! It is quite obvious when a person takes pride in their profession and this is the case. We ate until we could eat no more. Creative, fresh ingredients, competitive pricing and an obvious passion for food and his craft. The service was excellent, friendly and personable. I work in the seafood industry for an international seafood company where we are tasting "sushi grade" items constantly for Japan etc. Like i say the ingredients are legit. I had to discuss this experience with an associate in the industry & sure enough after mentioning how impressed i was with the food & decor of this little restaurant i found out a little history on this Keith fellow. & of course his character has rave reviews just like his food.
He may have had me sold at the "BC Rich" guitars on his wall and the music he had playing, hell man, he OWNS IT, in all sorts of ways.....but ohhh that food to back it up. (more like art)
"Justice Served" for this establishment.
Ah-Mazing! Minami and Miku, please make way for Sushi K Kamizato! This is a small japanese restaurant owned by Keith ( who is also the main chef at this restaurant). You can always expect the best from this place! Fresh sashimi, unique rolls and friendly staff. I think because the restaurant is new, my friend and I got to sample one of their appies as well! If you visit, you have to order the "Tiger's Eye" which is served as individual pieces. The roll is served with seared salmon belly topped with fresh chopped scallop and tobiko. Honestly, this roll just melts in your mouth! If you're already picturing this, you should really try one for yourself.
The owners are the best! Even if you're not a fan of the food, the owners will win you over :) But of course the food is bomb.
It's alright considering the location is in an area that doesn't have too many options like Vancouver. The tuna gomaae was tasty and not too salty. The appetizer sashimi was a better deal than the rest of the sashimi choices. It comes with scallop, ebi, tuna, and wild salmon. The scallop was the best out of all, with a very sweet taste. And then there was the albacore crunch roll at $5.75, the best deal of the night. The filling was just right with the right amount of rice outside. Next we had tuna toro nigiri, salmon toro tataki nigiri, and another nigiri from the special menu, with chopped scallop on top and salmon belly wrapping the rice. At $4.25 per piece, the portion was satisfying with big chunks of scallops and fatty salmon. However, I wouldn't say the taste is as satisfying in this combination. I expected a wow effect with it but it didn't happen. The food was not bad overall but they are not the best in greater Vancouver at this price point. If you don't mind the price, it's a good option in the area.
Probably the best sushi restaurant in tricity. Their menu is not big but their food are delicious. You really need to know what to order when you come here, as there are many off menu items that are really good. Try out their Aburi toro and the Tiger's eye.
After over a dozen visits Sushi K Kamizato is oceans more than consistently good. There's a deep rock n' roll atmosphere that, on the surface consists of the decor and music, but on closer inspection it permeates through the food.
The Chef, Keith Kamizato is highly meticulous in his craft and takes his time to carefully plate each dish. To some people this may seem like he and his staff are slower than other places but really it's a matter of maintaining quality. This is not for the faint of heart sushi goers that want california rolls churned out at the speed of food court dining. Yet, for those of you who are willing to take the time, you will rewarded with unique and memorable morsels no supermarket bento could hope to offer.
If you've made it this far these are some of my suggestions for your first time. The lack of photos for every dishes is a fault on my part. My partner and I ate them before we realized. For starters I recommend any of the salads or appetizers although the Tako Wasabi is my favorite here's a brief breakdown of a few others as well.
Asian Nachos: Tuna, tomato, and avocado with wonton sheet chips and a bit of pico de gallo on the side. Smooth tuna goes well with the crunch of the chips.
Loose Cannon: Crusted spheres of salmon that contain a boccaccini with. Comes with the okonomi and mayo sauces in a saucer, something you'd usually see served on top of takoyaki. A delightful twist on takoyaki that will pleasantly surprise from the first bite.
Love on the Rock: A trail of sauce with pieces of cheese lead up to a salmon cake on a foundation of dark rice. The savory and sweet aspects compliment each other well.
Tako Wasabi: Refreshing mix of octopus bits, veggies and wasabi on a bed of shredded daikon. Has a great wasabi kick to it.
Tuna Tataki Salad: Lightly seared bite sized tuna with a soya vinaigrette and mixed greens. Simply just alot of tasty tuna with a sweet soy vinaigrette
From there it's mostly up to your preference but I would highly recommend any of the special rolls particularly the following:
Goodbye Yellow Brick Roll: Crab, shrimp and yam tempura inside. Mango salsa and mango raspberry purees outside. Tangy sweet and savory in one package.
Italian Stallion: A Mediterranean meets Orient fusion of salmon, cheese, sundried tomato and edamame with balsamic vinegar. A well layered blend of tastes that does justice to both sides of the fusion.
Made in Poco: Fried octopus bundled in spinach and soy wrap with a garlic sauce. A far bolder taste that represents Keith's deviations from traditional sushi style.
Ocean Wiser: Inside the roll is salmon belly, and shrimp. Topped with avocado and more salmon. Has a great sauce with black sesame that really ties the whole piece together.
Other items to consider:
Aburi Beef Sashimi: Thin strips of lightly seared beef, sprinkled with negi in a carpaccio sauce. The tartness of the sauce really highlights the seared taste of the meat.
Oshinko/Shiso Roll: A simple maki of pickled radish and shiso leaf. The pickled radish is creamy in texture which allows the shiso to be more impactful.
Saba Battera: Saba with shiso leaf atop pressed rice. The sharpness of the shiso cutsdown the oily goodness of the saba. Also, the rice is made soft to the point where it's nearing mochi levels of smoothness.
Shout at the Devil: While everything else on the menu is regularly there, this little number is based on the availability of it's key ingredient snow crab. If you're there and you can order it you would be doing yourself a disservice in not trying it once. A mix of snow crab meat and veggies, with a seared scallop salsa hat, wrapped in pink soy paper. Oh and a bit of peach ghost pepper puree on the side if you can handle it.
Beyond that I would likely just list the rest of the menu if given the time. So my last suggestion is that you simply ask the waiters, or even Keith himself if he's not too busy, what is fresh and new. Most of the regulars, myself included, wouldn't mind you asking what their favorites are. It's things like that make a restaurant like this more than the sum of its parts.
In summary, if you like great food, great tunes and great people try out Sushi K Kamizato. You won't regret it.
THE ONLY SUSHI FOR ME!!!!. Went there with my family. I haven't been able to eat sushi any where else. The care that the owner puts in is remarkable. The taste is exquisite. The atmosphere makes me feel that I am at a movie and I am the main character. 5 stars to the chef! :D
Finally authentic sushi!. If you are a sushi fanatic, this is the place to be!! Mouthwatering and authentic sushi that will make you keep coming back for more. I wish I found this place sooner!!!!!!!!
Seriously the best sushi in the Tri-Cities. It's a 30 min drive for me to get there from my place and it's totally worth it.
Highly recommended by friends, but how often do you find yourself in Poco, right? Well, we were in Port Moody and thought, hey...let's go for lunch. We liked the space, the tea, the music, and the food was good. We'll be back for dinner.
We had two of the roll specials, one with albacore tuna and one with salmon - good. Nigiri: the red tuna was very nice, the sea bass was ok and the tiger-eye was great. We also had the Poco Gunners, which I liked more than my sweetie did. My sweetie says that the technique wasn't top notch but it was good enough for a very enjoyable experience. It was very nice to see someone put such effort and care into making their food...he is clearly passionate about his work and it pays off.
I have eaten at a lot of restaurants around the world, and I always find myself coming back to Sushi K. Amazing food and a great environment, love it!!
For those about to rock...we sushi you!!. On a recent trip to POCO, I had the pleasure of visiting a very unique little sushi restaurant that I feel is one of the best places that I have had the pleasure to dine at in a very long time. It was a recent Sunday night that me and a friend happened to be in need of a sushi fix while doing some work out in the POCO area and we stumbled into what we thought was just a regular little sushi restaurant but after walking through the door and being promptly greeted with a loud "Hello" from the chef and the wait staff all at once, we knew that this place had charm not to mention the fact that this sushi place was really looking like a rock and roll shrine with its decor and great music!! We ended up sitting at the bar cause the place is on the smaller side and was packed that night but that turned out to really come in handy as Master Chef Keith was our guide to the menu that night and really provided us with an excellent variety of his succulent creations which we got to see him create and explain. As you can read from the other reviews, Master Keith is a creative monster of sushi and as we got to know that night he has trained under some great mentors and worked in some really high end sushi places and at one point he tells us that he was a lethal bass player in a rock band(who would of thought!!). We were both impressed by the goodbye yellow brick roll(excellent name!), crab motoyaki, aburi toro and ocean wiser and the constant arrival of cold Kirin by our attentive waitress. The fish and all ingredients seemed absolutely fresh and the portions were a decent size and the presentation was artful and caring. This place is a must for those who can get to it as it has some of the best sushi I have ever had, a fantastically friendly and welcoming staff and great prices for the quality that you are getting. Cheers to you Sushi K Kamizato....Rock On!!
Customer. Keith is a true artist. He puts an incredible amount of effort into everything he does. This 100% comes through in the flavors he manages to create. You need to try this place for yourself to truly appreciate it. You will be blown away, I guarantee as I've seen it happen several times while eating here. A lady the last time we were there, said, and I quote exactly, "This is the best tasting food I've ever had." Do not go here if you want generic all-you can eat style rolls. This is a true foodie experience for anyone that can truly appreciate flavor combinations and fresh, pure ingredients. Well done Keith, Chika, and the entire team at Sushi K Kamizato!!!
You can tell when a restaurant cares about the food and the dining experience as an art form and respected craft. There are traditional items but also very unique, delicious and inspired rolls. Favorites are the yellow brick roll and poco gunner -- just very interesting flavor combinations and just perfectly thought out. The staff and service is excellent. My favorite spot in Poco and in the GRVD. It is *the place* I take visitors to show off Poco; just have to remember it is closed Mondays.

Ate here for the first time last night with my 2.5 yr old and it was INCREDIBLE!!!! The care and attention the chef puts into preparing each dish is inspiring. They even made teriyaki chicken for my daughter ( not on the menu) and offered her an egg nigiri, chefs own creation, to try for free ( which she loved). The restaurant itself is small but the decor is fun, guitars and records hang on the walls. We arrived right around 5pm, perfect timing as there was a line of people waiting for a table an hour later. They close between 3-5pm. I honestly cannot say enough about this place, I even ordered more food to go for lunch today! Prices are reasonable, chef is friendly and passionate about his craft! Try this place and tell your friends!!
First and foremost if you haven't been here to eat yet GO NOW! I eat here at least 3 times a week! Always fresh and delicious :) Not like any typical sushi restaurant! I'm always back for more for the staff are warm and friendly. Keith is always making customers into friends when you seat at the bar. The atmosphere is all rock and roll! Rock on Sushi Kamaizato!!!!! :) million thumbs up!
Delicious sushi. A small and very busy restaurant that pumps the sushi out
good music, friendly staff and excellent sushi
we ate the house roll, yellow brick road roll and the negitoro roll.
each piece of sushi was the perfect 1 bite size and I could actually fit in my mouth with out dropping food everywhere
I will definitely be going back here for more sushi again
10 out of 10 from me
First Review. This place is soooo good that I had to write a review. My first review on Urban spoon. By far, one of the nicest restaurants in the Tri-Cities! we are so lucky!
I love the "aburi" items on the menu, so yummy! The restaurant has a rock-n-roll feel. Not many tables, but I think this adds to the "special'ness of the place. A hidden gem :)
My Happy Place. You won't find Dynamite combo B on their menu. It's just not that kind of place. Nor is it a snobby fusion restaurant in the heart of downtown. Sushi Kamizato is the perfect balance of creative, gourmet dishes and the comfort of that friendly neighbourhood hang out spot. And if you're a music nerd like me you'll love the decor! Guitars and records all over the walls, and Chef Kamizato's collection of back stage passes. You can feel the love. Every detail has something special about it. Even the chopstick rests are in the shapes of cute animals.
Top of the Food Chain. Sushi K Kamizato has quickly risen to become my favourite sushi place in the entire GVRD. The quality of the food is unbeatable - the fish is some of the freshest I've been able to find. Add to that the owner and his wife are genuinely nice people. He clearly takes a lot of pride in the quality and presentation of the dishes he prepares. Even living in Vancouver, it's well worth the drive out to PoCo to get my weekly sushi fix! Be sure not to miss the "salmon four ways" and the aburi toro sashimi.

A must try Best sushi ar.... A must try
Best sushi around for miles .
Best sushi ever! best staff ever!! love this place so much!! love you and miss you guys!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Went there tonight with a friend of mine. Ordered a tuna tatami and asked the waitress to suggest some rolls for us. Everything was good I'm just speechless. Was sitting At the bar table chatting with the Owner Keith. Super nice guy, offered us some tasting menu items and gave some new dishes to try, which was also amazing. gonna be back real soon, I live in Burnaby.
Sushi with a twist!. Kamizato thinks out of the box. Instead of a traditional style sushi restaurant, this place mixes sushi with some rock n' roll, and everyone is so warm and lively, no matter if they are staff or customers. Everyone gets along and become friends. The food is absolute top quality and when I take a bite of a sushi, particularly the Tiger's Eye, it melts in my mouth. Amazing! When I went, there were line ups and the staff were all busy, but nonetheless they kept up with their service and had gave a warm welcoming atmosphere. It's definitely a favorite for me.
AMAZING!. Great service (very when really busy) Amazing food! The nicest staff ever! If you get a chance you should defiantly check it out! My personal favourites are the Seaweed Salad and their specialty rolls! So delicious!
Very good sushi. This is the place to go if you want to have very good quality sushi. It's fresh and authentic. The place run by Japanese. My dining experience here is outstanding. My favorite: Aburi Toro nigiri, melt in your mouth. The chef really cares about his food and what he is putting out there. Truly a masterpiece.
First visit today!.. Very impressed. Awesome staff and atmosphere!.. I have found my goto sushi place!!!
MUST TRY! Yesterday was my second time at this Sushi place. I've been to most of the sushi restaurants in the Tricities and all over greater Vancouver and this is one of my favorites. The chef has a lot of pride in his menu and Japanese cuisine and him and his wife are very knowledgable and friendly. The chef came out from behind the bar to open the door for my mother and i when we left! Their ingredients are fresh and very high quality. Service is great and everything I've had there is melt-in-your-mouth good. The complimentary appetizer is a fun bonus. Reasonably priced for the quality. Definitely worth a visit if you like sushi!
SOO good!!. I have eaten a LOT of sushi at a LOT of places, but was by far the best!!! The sushi was fresh and DELICIOUS! Chef Keith and the rest of the staff were so friendly and chatted with us throughout the meal. The decor is so fun and the music is a lot of old school rock...love it!
The food is really incredible...fresh, tasty, and a great blend of traditional and new! I will be back over and over again for sure.
Great Service, authentic and Fresh!!!. After my fourth time at Sushi K Kamizato, I felt that I should probably write a review! I've been blown away by their service and their commitment to serve the freshest and best quality sushi and sashimi. You don't see that very often at a lot of sushi joints and Chef Keith is dedicated to not using farmed salmon either.
Among all the other yummy things, my faves are their Oceanwiser roll, chopped scallop (it's so fresh!!!), Tuna Toro nigiri (ask for the torched version!!!), Aburi Saba.
Strike up a conversation with the staff and you'll learn so much more about japanese cuisine.
I'll be back again soon!
Has to be the best sushi place in poco. Great staff, fresh ingredients and creative rolls. 5 months open so I'm hoping they've worked out the details so the experience stays consistent. It's a small space & only 4 staff so if all 22 seats are full, be patient, have a beer, enjoy the classic rock and 80s pop hits - it will be worth it.

I fond out about sushi k kamizato around 2 weeks ago now, and they have have been impressing me every time now. The food is fresh, Keith, his wife and the rest of the staff are so welcoming. You have to check this sushi bar out ASAP.
Japanese Owner/ChefKeith and his wife(boss?) Chika is very nice and accommodating , food is creative and tastes great , in my top three among Fuji and Matoi. But truth be told I haven't been to either of thise since I discovered sushi K last month.
Must try their Ikura! And also ask Keith about the daily special.
Excellent sushi. A unique western way of serving Japanese food that stands apart from any other restaurant of this nature. Traditional and Newley reinvented this is a must to try. The Jiro of port coquitlam
One of the best sushi restaurants in Vancouver! The chef is extremely passionate, creative and has a heart of gold. Our favorite sushi spot by far. Check this place out for sure - wont be disappointed. Our favourite dish is the salmon or tuna 4-way!! Also, make sure you try the brown rice - it's very unique.
Unbelievable food and amazing customer service. Easily the best Japanese food in the lower mainland. The chef, Keith, is very personable and friendly. Always want to go back. The food is authentic with some very tasty spins. If you're looking for your new sushi restaurant, look no further. Very comfortable and welcoming dining area. Keith Kamizato is gearing up to be the newest staple in Port Coquitlam cuisine.

Researching in advanced, there were many dishes I knew I wanted to try. But to my confusion, many of these dishes I read up on weren’t on the menu! The Tuna Four Ways was one of them. Asking the waitress, we quickly learned that Sushi K Kamizato has quite the extensive “secret menu” that only true foodies and regular customers know about.
Once again, I was very pleased with my experience at Sushi K Kamizato. It’s rare when you can have a meal where you order a bunch of items and everything was equally delicious. I will definitely continue to come here on a regular basis.
PoCo has another great sushi restaurant now. Opened since June 6, 2012 in Shaughnessy Station (where Safeway and Earls is). Chef Keith Kamizato originally from Okinawa 沖縄県, Japan, was trained in the traditional style of Japanese cooking and sushi preparation brings us some really delicious and quality sushi. Brick walls, sushi bar, dark wooden tables and LCD TVs playing ocean scenes sets the mood. It reminds me of the super awesome Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium: mysterious marine life right before your eyes.
Nevertheless, I made the long trek up to Poco and to be honest, it is probably the farthest I've ever travelled for food. The journey was a good hour and a half from where I live. They started us off with some complimentary Salmon and Tuna Karaage .
Overall, I have enjoyed the food selections that Kamizato had to offer. Most dishes were a WOW. However, there was only one sushi chef, so service could get slower depending on how busy the restaurant gets. Sushi K Kamizato isn’t your cheap sushi joint. It’s not fine dining pricy, but pricier than your normal sushi joint. So, our bill came to just over $42 before tips. The ambiance of Kamizato was very interesting, it’s got pictures and guitars on the walls. I’m not sure what it really portrays or if there is a theme to it. The staff was very friendly and even the chef came out to explain what the dish was to some. Other than that, it’s a great addition to one of PoCo’s newest Japanese restaurants.

It’s been revered as one of the best places for sushi in the GVRD and it’s worth the drive all the way out to Port Coquitlam, but does Sushi K Kamizato live up to the hype? I’m going to say yes, yes it does. Unassumingly nestled in a strip mall, Sushi K Kamizato may not look like much from the outside but it’s what is on the inside that counts. As we waited for them to open, I got a couple puzzled stares as to why there was a lineup outside of a random sushi place in the middle of a strip mall – but I’d be happy to tell people it’s worth the wait! They open up and we’re seated. The space is a little small – maybe fitting 20-25 people at the most inside at one time? The ambiance – interesting. Exposed brick with different types of albums – mostly rock hanging in the back. Our order today included the Albacore Crunch Roll (a special), Toro Nigiri, a Seared California roll and seared Yam Tempura Roll and the Goodbye Yellow Brick Roll. YES, I ordered a california roll and yam tempura roll.
It is Japanese owned and they serve awesome sushi and its very different from Sushi Town or California Sushi. The owners stay true to their roots and make sushi like how it can be found in Southern Japan.
