Halibut fish is not cheap but it's worth it when you go to this restaurant . Very tasty and not real greasy as some, almost perfect! Not as busy as in the past trips to this place.IF I was to want fish and chips this would be the place of choice.Purveys has been around for years and is always a great choice.
It's the bomb. I had the chowder which was good but the halibut fish and chops were exceptional.
Best Fish!!. I was born and raised in Peterborough so I was lucky enough to be brought up eating Jeff Purvey's take-out. Honestly, I have tried fish (& chips) from many, many other restaurants and I have yet to find any match for Purvey's. I may be a bit biased, since I did grow up expecting their flavour from the dish, but it's seriously so good. Decent-sized chucks of fish with crispy batter - not too thick, not too thin - and just the right amount of grease for a grease craving or hangover (c'mon, no one eats deep-fried food to be healthy), and they heat up nice and crispy in the toaster oven if you have leftovers.... or like me, just order extra so that you can have it 2 days in row.
Now, the "chips"... well... they aren't terrible but they also aren't anything to get excited over, so we DO usually have to crisp them up in the oven when we get home with our meals.... but once that is done, I'd say they're pretty tasty, especially with their gravy.
They did recently renovate it so it's no longer the darker, dingier, old-school style that it was for generations. It's much brighter and more modern, while still keeping some form of marine feel.
