Nice fifties decor and well maintained. Service was friendly although only one server working. Appears to me a Ma/Pa operation which is what I prefer. Breakfast was well presented and good. Overall I would go back

First thing I am going to write is that was the largest deli sandwich I have ever had.
Now back to the beginning. We were west of the city this afternoon, and we passed through Oakville at dinner time. I had bookmarked Fiftie's Diner a while ago, and today we had the opportunity to try it. It is in more of a commercial and industrial neighbourhood, and it was not very busy on a Saturday evening. The decor is definitely a throwback to the 50's, and the music playing was 50's and 60's.
SWMBO opted for the Fiftie's Patty Melt with Fries ($11.95). Grilled rye with a burger patty, topped with sautéed red onions and melted cheddar. She said although the patty was a bit dry, that the sandwich was still okay.
I chose the Fiftie's Reuben. This was the biggest, messiest smoked meat sandwich that I have ever had. There were probably about 10 oz of lean, very thin sliced smoked meat (the way I like it) piled about 3 inches high on grilled rye. There was absolutely no way to get a bite across the entire sandwich. About a quarter of the meat fell to the plate as I ate the sandwich. The sauerkraut was one one side of the meat, and it had a little sweetness. The Swiss cheese was a simple, thin slice added on the other side of the meat. I prefer when the cheese is melted on the meat, which was not the case here. The fires were pretty good, but I could not finish them, due to the size of the sandwich.
Our server was pleasant and friendly. The food did seem to take longer to arrive than expected, especially since the restaurant was not busy.
Would go here again!. Whoever is writing bad reviews on this place must be a serious SNOB. This place was surprisingly excellent. I ordered the chicken club with fries and they gave me a HUGE portion and it was delicious. The only thing I would say is that it's kind of expensive for a "diner", the cheapest meal is 12.95$. You get what you pay for though!
