Above-average sushi at a great price and convenient location, with an option for delivery? Where have you been all my life, Kojima?? Love that they offer a cheap mix-and-match combo with some great items available, which are always good quality and prepared very well.
They've recently started offering bubble tea as well, which is on par with pretty much every other bubble tea place I've been to in Metro Van. The fresh fruit Pineapple Mango Slush is delicious! although (expectedly) very sweet haha.
I visit or order from this place almost every time I'm in New West and am never disappointed!
I am still discovering local restaurants in my neighbourhood as I near the two-year mark of living in South-East Burnaby. Osaka Island has been our go-to for sushi. Unfortunately, nothing really stands out. The food is average, as is the speed and service. It is spacious, which is important when you have to add a high chair at the end of a booth. We eat dinner early so we never have to wait for a seat. Parking is free and generally available. Primary reason that we return? It’s nearby.
Okay. So I've made it my goal to conquer every restaurant in New West this summer...since I pretty much have nothing else to do ;). I think it'll be interesting because restaurants in New West generally don't get a lot of coverage...I firmly believe that there are hidden gems to be found!! Just wait and see :D
Sushi restaurants are a dime in a dozen in Vancouver, but in New West, there's only a handful. Kojima Sushi, a Chinese run Japanese restaurant located beside Hon's, is one of them!
My mom got takeout for me a few weeks back, and since I was pretty satisfied with their salmon sashimi, I decided to make a visit!

I work down the street from these guys, I order from them like every second day, No matter what I order it is so good and the proportions are more than fair, My favorite dish is their Beef teriyaki Don, And Beef Yakisoba, Their miso soup is the best i have ever tried, This in my opinion is the hidden gem of New West, No matter what you order you wont be sorry.
I’ve been here for lunch during the weekday and found that they’re not too busy. Most of the tables are partitioned into little alcoves for more privacy but it also cuts down on the amount of natural light that comes in from the window. I started out my first visit with an order of Goma-Ae

The Dragon Roll consisted of prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber, tobiko and unagi. Other than the frying oil issue for the prawn tempura, the roll was well-constructed. The unagi was savoury, and the avocado was fresh while rich in flavour. Overall, there was a good harmony of flavours.
Hon's reno guess it's sushi time. Was going for a quick wanton noodle next door but they where closed due to reno so I tried the pick 3 here instead. Teryaki beef Don, tuna nigiri, tako sunomono was all good and well portioned for $10. Lots of other choices too. Will need to go again to try others.
Still miss King Sushi, but has gotten better. I am a long time customer. Used to love the previous King Sushi before and after the reno.
After the fire though, portions and quality were off the scale. Well - that changed and not for the better. The portions became what you would expect and the salmon really dropped down in quality.
I think I can say I still like and recommend it, I would go for a box though - and skip the salmon sashimi/nigiri.
This is the best sushi around, very affordable, clean and great service. My hubby and I thought it was because new owners took over, but it has been fantastic every time.
I just went here for the 1st time yesterday. It's the old location of "King Sushi" that is now closed. All new menu and people, we had a great lunch that was reasonably priced. Thier "constructed" rolls like BC and California rolls are good, the sashimi is very fresh and good sized portions, I had a seaweed salad in sesame oil that was fantastic and some sashimi and nigiri sushi, my wife got a bento box and everything was really fresh with a good presentation. I will definitely go again.
