Dumplings, Dumplings, Dumplings! Yi Pin Xiang is a dumpling restaurant in Ville St Laurent that’s well known all over Montreal. Diva #1 was on an intense dumpling crawl, so she decided to check out this restaurant with P’tit Frère. They are known for their boiled dumplings, which are different from steamed soup dumplings that are seemingly more popular in Montreal. Boiled dumplings have a thicker skin and aren’t semi translucent like steamed dumplings, they also don’t have soup in them.
Not bad!. Though I'm partial to soup dumplings (Sammi & Soupe on St. Cat), I decided to give this place a shot. I ordered 3 chicken soups, pork and chive dumplings, beef and chive dumplings, and the potato salad. All in all, very good! One complaint: the chicken soup was not at all what I had expected... the consistency was syrupy, kind of like what you taste when you eat sweet & sour soup. Plus, there was egg in it. If I'd known that beforehand (erm erm vague menu), I wouldn't have ordered it. I was expecting a nice light broth with pieces of chicken, noodles and veggies, but apparently, you only get that if you order the meal-sized soups. Despite this minor setback, I'm pretty sure I'd go back again.
Bon endroit pour dinner. Les dumplings sont excellents et le service est numéro un.
