Outstanding Japanese Food. Salads were fresh and crispy, with amazing dressing. The Bento was out of this world so was the Tempura - I never thought that I could actually fall in love with parsley tempura. The raw fish from the sushi and the salad was soft and had that 'melt in your mouth' quality.
Both owners/chefs are welcoming and have truly your best interests at heart.
Nice portions with very reasonable prices. Don't forget to try the Matcha mousse for dessert.
Ryo-Tei is a hidden gem !
Lovely Meal. Located in a forgotten part of St-Denis, it's small and intimate and surprisingly empty. The food was really decent and the service good. It was kind of sad to see how empty it was because I think this place is definitely a keeper. It's a little pricey, but equivalent to any other good Japanese place in the city and you a) don't have to wait in line forever like at Kazu and b) it doesn't have the hipster vibe Big in Japan has. The tempura was really good, as was the sushi and miso soup. Basically a sure bet!
Not bad.... The cooked food was quite good for montreal japanese standards. The bento box was quite varied and rather more esoteric than the typical mtl fare. However, the nigiri and sashimi offering was extremely limited in variety and not quite fresh due to limited availability and sourcing. Hopefully, in time when the restaurant becomes more popular, the fish offering will increase in quantity and quality.
Overall, I believe there is potential. Although, at the moment, it is definitely not a destination restaurant.
The only place I know in town that serves Japanese curry -- and it's delicious to boot. And I can vouch that the sushi is fantastic too. Great ambience, great food.
