Chinese buffet quick-fix. We came here for lunch on Labour Day, no reservations with a large group (12 people) and were seated promptly in a back room where there was plenty of room. The place was surprisingly not very busy. It's a rarity for a Chinese restaurant in Montreal Chinatown to have such a massive space for seating and dining. The selection of food is massive - which means that the overall focus is quantity and not necessarily quality. I found the service friendly, most of the food was typical buffet quality and despite the extremely negative reviews below, I didn't find my experience too bad. Would return if I needed a quick fix for buffet food next time I'm in the area.

Montreal Classic for Chinese Food. This restaurant gets bad reviews, some of which are warranted, but I assure you it's always choc full of patrons walking up and down the ailes getting their fix of Chinese Food. A lot of it caters to the Western crowd, so you'll find a lot of meat and many of the items are greasy and fried, which has a lot of people coming back, but if you're not into that sort of thing, you'll probably be dissapointed. The restaurant isn't nearly as "dirty" as anyone says it is, it's actually quite clean, it's just busy with customers all day, and I've seen numerous people not being careful with how they scoop food on their plates, or dropping things on the ground, etc. The problem isn't with the restaurant, it has a lot to do with kids running around and not being careful.
That said, I've been going to this restasurant since I moved to Montreal in 1994, it's cheap, it's greasy, it's satisfying. If you're looking for 5-star cuisine in an immaculate setting, go to an overpriced haute cuisine resto in Old Montreal.
Avoid the Washrooms. Not all of the food is labeled, and the staff seems a bit rude, and it's not the cleanest restaurant I've been to. But after all that, I am still a regular patron of this restaurant, because they have a wide selection of buffet items, and the food is generally hot. It's probably not worth the supper buffet rates, but if you go after lunch and before dinner, you pay half price, for the same food that will be served later at dinner. One comment that needs to be said. Avoid the washrooms. The floors are constantly wet, the toilets are always overflowing, but if you can hold it in, then you won't need to see this. I still recommend the restaurant for anyone who wants to try it out.

Good for Chinese Stews. This is a gigantic restaurant that feeds crowds of people in many rooms on two floors with Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine and some dim sums. Prices varies according to the hour of the day and day of the week. For people who are price conscious they could get a good price for their meals on off days and off hours.
I agree with other views that says cleanliness might be an issue. Although, I am sure the place is carefully monitored and respects the provincial standards for restaurants.
You will find clean tablecloth and towels that are changed when there are food stains. I find the service is good: the waiter comes and remove empty pltes when you leave the table to get more food from the buffet.
You will find the usual fare offered by other chinese buffet: Salmon, crab, mussels, General Tao, etc. etc.
I might say the quality for their usual fare is below average:
Some people find the vegetarian buffet interesting with a good variety of food offerings.
But, what I like about this place are all the different chinese stews that offers a variation on different kinds of meat around bones. This is peasant food for chinese aficionados that you usually do not find on regular menus. If you order thiskind of food in a regualr restaurant you will never know what you will get but, this is a chinese buffet and you are able to pick and choose the piece that looks good to you
If you like spare ribs you might be interested on these other variations on meat around a bone. You nimble at them the same way as with spare ribs.
There are many kinds of chinese stews: Beef, pork, chicken, meat balls done different ways. Meat dim sums are not very interesting except for their meat in sweet buns (steamed). They are very good
There are eggs in soya sauce plus the regular soya chicken, BBQ pork and BBQ duck: all very good.
In the same area, they also have two different kinds of congees.
Congees is basically a chinese porridge with tiny bits of meats that includes liver. Congee is the kind of meal that are prepared and served to boat people on long trips in cargos across the ocean. You may not wish to try a big bowl: this is a buffet so you are allowed to try a few spoonfuls to get an appreciation on how boat people survives in an overcrowded boat across the ocean.
Chalenging in many ways but I find it pays off on cultural dividends .

When I think of Chinese buffets, this place, in my opinion, is the top of Montreal. I don’t claim that because it is the best, but because the rest isn’t any better. As a half-Chinese fellow myself, I’ve been brought to other Chinese buffets to act as the litmus test for decency of quality. Still, nothing comes close. The problem is that I’ve been here so much that the variety doesn’t work for me anymore.
