Went in at 3am after a night out drinking. The place was buzzing and the food was great. Must try is the beef and vegetable birds nest and the salt and pepper pork chops. We had also ordered the bbq pork fried rice and a tasty dry beef chowmein
Tuesday dinner was at Maison VIP. The outside of the restaurant could use some restoration, but the inside was ok.
Yay! A restaurant that understands that single diners need to eat dinner too. Boo! The choice is limited to only one full course dinner. For $13.95 you get:
- Won Ton Soup
- Egg Roll
- Dry Spare Ribs
- Chicken Lo Mein
- Chicken Fried Rice
- Almond Cookie
The quantity of the food was abundant, and I barely finished everything. While the food was ok, it was a bit too "Canadian" for my liking. If there is a next time, I would probably stay away from the fixed menu.
Service was very good.
I have only been to this restaurant once, and tasted three dishes, but so far Maison VIP is offering the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. The food was fresh, and lacking that "muddy" dulled/tired flavor a lot of Chinese food has. Sauces were delicately and really deliciously flavored. Meats were tender and succulent. Portions are generous too, great for sharing several dishes around, which is what we did. If you are in or around Chinatown I can strongly recommend that you Maison VIP a try. If you come during lunch hours, I strongly recommend that you ask for the dinner menu. They will be happy to provide it to you. Enjoy.
Jul'2015: Tried this again after many years. Food was wonderful. We had shrimp with fried noodles and another dish with pork, shrimp, chicken and mixed vegetables. Delicious! Service friendly and efficient. Will be going back soon!
Maison VIP is my first choice when I'm in the area. The portions are generous and very tasty. The service is very quick and the servers are ready to make adjustments to your order. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
Great food/price. Came here often over the past 6 years with family and friends. They provide very attractive seafood during summer, I loved their lobsters, oysters, and salt and pepper shrimp. Highly recommended!
Very Intriguing Plates (VIP). So i wanted to go to PF changs that night but the line was 3 hours so we went to VIP and honestly i think it was better. The portions are huge, the bill was very cheap and we ordered 5 dishes with a miso soup. The chicken dishes were really good. Nothing was wrong about it, i highly recommend this place if you are in china town or if you are down for some chinese food
Short and Simple. Good place & service, really good food at really great prices, you definitely get a good bang for your buck. Its a great place to go with either friends or family. Totally worth it!
A Montreal institution. Pros: The best part of VIP is that you can always count on it, day or night, winter or summer. The menu doesn't change. They don't have a menu listed online or a even printed for takeout customers... and yet the place is constantly filled. That tells you something. I've been going here for the last 15 years. I love the fact that I can roll in after festivities at 1am and still be faced with a short line-up: a true hot-spot. (TIP: they save the large tables for large parties, so if you're just a couple, try to group up with some other couples and split the table... that'll save a potentially long wait in the queue). The hot and sour soup and General Taos Chicken are staples. I'm a tremendous fan of both.
Con: Don't expect great service (however I've noticed that's been improving). But that shouldn't deter you from this restaurant one bit. It's all about yummy Chinese food. Nothing more, nothing less.
Oh Lalalalala. Been goin there for about 20 years!!!
Best chowmein, general tao in town imo.
In chinatown there is VIP that I crave!!
The place is far from being fancy but I dont go there for the service or the chandeliers on the celling, I go there for the great food and it delivers.
VIP is on my speedial!!
