Hidden Gem of Montreal.
I came here as it is one of Montreal’s “BYOW” restaurants. I fell in love with the food and the sweet owner who is very focused on you enjoying yourself. There are multiple ways he went above and beyond to make sure our experience was one to be remembered. Please only come here if you have time to spare, it’s a slow moving, enjoy the moment, type of place. I always relish putting life on pause to enjoy great company to the fullest, and devouring amazing home cooked Italian food. This place is the best. He even threw in extra tortellini for us to enjoy the next day! C’est magnifique!
Great Italian homemade food and sevice from Ennio Who's the chef and owner.
I had barley soup and tortellini pasta, they are the best I've ever had. I'll definitely visit whenever I'm in Montreal.
Very nice, old style Italian restaurant with genuine chef/owner who really takes care of you if restaurant is not too busy. Food is good and tasty.

How someone could give this place a bad rating is beyond me. Among the wave of trendy, hip and stylish restaurants with 15 ingredient cocktails and $25 hamburgers, Chez Ennio remains great because Ennio himself puts such a passion and love into his food and his customers.
I came with my girlfriend on a wednesday night which was not very busy (probably the best atmosphere to experience the resto). We split an aubergine parmigiana starter which was the size of a standard meal, although Ennio insisted it was appropriately sized for an appetizer. So right off the get-go, I could tell this was real Italian food...
We then had the veal cordon bleu which was outstanding, and although it was sitting in a Mediterranean-sized pool of olive oil it had a nice hint of lemon and herbs that actually made if feel quite light. I had the Tuscan Quail, which was easily the best quail i've ever eaten. Not dry or sinew-y, and generously stuffed with ground veal, beef, and mushrooms, and then topped with a cape of prosciutto fried until crispy.
We couldn't decide between having roasted potatoes or house pasta as the starch component, so Ennio offered us both, presenting a plate of "linguini a la Ennio" (homestyle linguini carbonara w prosciutto) on the house the same size as other pastas I've seen people pay upwards of $16 for. My girlfriend was trying to cut out carbs from her diet, but Ennio definitely made it hard for her to refuse.
The food was so plentiful we had to pack up enough to fill two whole takeout containers, and with two espressos to finish the bill came out to a mere $73 for both of us.
Chez Ennio is definitely not modern, nor chic, nor glamorous. It feels as if you've stepped back into 1978 when good dining was all about huge portions, rich flavours, personable service, and having the ability to sit back and take your time while eating. I'll definitely be going back with more friends for the charming atmosphere, the authentic food, and that quail. I mean seriously, goddamn!
Ennio is a great man! His food is tremendous and he is like everyone's favourite grandpa. He came out to greet us and to make sure that we enjoyed our appetizers and main courses, and even offered us more! We will be back to this lovely little spot. BYOB is a nice option, and the decoration is delightfully tacky. Makes you feel right at home. Not for those rushed on time, but I promise you will fall in love with Ennio the Great and his restaurant!
Cozy little place, BYOW. If i had to rate the food... i would give it a 3.5 bathrooms need alot of work! the owner/cook is a super friendly man. overall this resto is ok.
I was hesitant at first to go in this small place tucked away with less than appealing decor. But am I so glad I gave this place a shot! The bread when it first came out wasn't fresh but I can ignore that part because the main course was by far the best Italian I've had! The owner is so cute and friendly and he takes your order and cooks it! It is BYOB didn't know until we got their but lucky there is a store next door with 15 wines to choose from. Definitely going back! Delicious!
Amazing cozy atmosphere. The food reminds you (if your Italian) to the food your grandmother would cook you. Started with a delicious smoked salmon which was very fresh. The had a linguini with clams which was delicious. Finally finished off with a delicious banana split! Would definitely recommend this restaurant nestled on Du Fort, loved it!
So cozy!. The food is delicious and comforting. Really good eggplant parmesan and pasta dishes. You might wait a while, but it's so worth it. Bring your own wine and the waitress is beautiful!
Charming Little Place. I went to Chez Ennio for dinner with a group of friends for my sister's bachelorette party. I had not heard of the restaurant before, but we decided to give it a try as it was a three minute walk from our hotel.
When first entering, I found it to be very quaint and warm, with decor that makes you feel as if you are in someone's Italian grandmother's house. Knickknacks fill every surface and the lighting is soft and comfortable.
We were greeted by an adorable elderly man who proceeded to open the wine, which we had brought for ourselves, and brought us some fresh buns to eat while we made our decision on entrees. We each ordered a different pasta dish, and all were delicious, not to mention very generously-sized. Most of us actually had leftovers, which we happily brought back to the hotel to eat after our night out at the bars. I, personally had the fettuccine with pesto and it was very tasty.
I should also mention that it turned out that the same man was doing all of the greeting, cooking and serving, although I did not find it caused us to wait overly long for our food to arrive. He did an excellent job and was very friendly, despite being busy.
I would certainly recommend Chez Ennio, and would like to return there the next time I am in Montreal.
