Montreal BYOBs are a very much a hit or miss proposition in a lot of cases. One particular group of restauranteurs have seemingly succeeded in establishing a BYOB template that works. Marc-André Paradis, George Blais, and Thierry Dufour and Co. have a large of collections of restaurants that now cover most of the different neighbourhoods in the city. Their names are synonymous with excellent in BYOB and yet, I have never been to any….. a blind spot of mine to be sure. Luckily, recently, I had a chance to visit their St-Henri local, Le Smoking Vallée and see how it stacks up.
Belle accueille, la placière aussi serveuse, a su tres bien nous servir et bien nous conseiller. Nos entrées étaient salé, mais ils ont corrigé la situation et même assurer que nos plats principaux soient correct. Vraiment aimé l'expérience.
I have wonderful friends. Two of them (Lea and her main squeeze) decided to invite me out on February 15th for a little Valentine's day dinner. How nice! And to Le Smoking Vallée no less; a BYOW restaurant I'd been meaning to visit for a while. We got there, on a -8000 evening and were nicely welcomed by the waitress and unfortunately coldly welcomed by the room... the temperature inside does not need to be the same as the temperature outside, people! It was 6 PM so it was quite empty...but it was about to fill up.

Been there two times. Food was consistently great, well seasoned and not overwhelming so you taste the ingredients. The waitress was very friendly and always smiling.
Night out with Pumpkin. Pumpkin is my daughter and we like to find off the beaten track places to eat but the food has to be good. I drove right by this place and never saw it. Once inside the ambiance was great, the service great and the food fantastic without exception. I hope it stays this way.
The lady's I went with couldn't stop talking about how good the experience was at Le smoking vallee! Service was really quick! Salade du marche was excellent last night, I ordered the Bavette. The chef cares about what he puts out here. Will recommend to friends and family.
This place is AMAZING. The was great and the food to die for. I had the table d'hôte. The smoke salmon, which is made in house, is actually the best I ever had and I'm a salmon lover. The tuna tartar was by far my favorite. And for someone who does particularly like oyster they were delicious
So went there for dinner at 6:00 and by 7:00 the place was 3/4 full on a tue nite. The service was great and the decor is cool. They have a really large table for groups which is beautifully set up. We started with the oysters, amazing. Then my friend had the risotto also really good. I had the white tuna Tartare, a little boring !!! Oh and they took the ravioli off the menu ? We finished with 2 cappuccino's and the bill. Total $96. tax and tip included. Overall, it was OK. I will go back because it's close to home.
This small bistro with an urban flair gets bonus points before you even get there because of its « bring your own wine » formula. Surprisingly good experience in terms of the food - took the table d'hote with the onglet de boeuf, started with gravlax which was an excellent surprise. The beef was quite tender and well cooked. The only downside was the service - it did not hit the mark. Server seemed disinterested altogether. Would definitely go back for the food!
High end restaurant with high quality which you can brung your own wine, Their table d'hote option they have is really good, it is a bit pricy but I really enjoyed the experience, nice presentation and good food.
Bring your own wine. Enjoy a great selection of French bistro delights. Service is above average but they are clearly understaffed. French speaking patrons will likely have a more enjoyable experience, since the staff are predominantly Quebecors with very little English fluency.
I would rate "Le Smoking Vallée" 6 stars if I could!!! My husband and I had our wedding reception here and the service and food were just INCREDIBLE. Everyone LOVED their dishes and the atmosphere was just great! Their customer service was amazing as well as I had many questions leading up to our big day which were all answered quickly by email. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to have an enjoyable evening :) if we're back in Montreal again, we will be going back for sure!!
Amazingly delicious, but you need to be prepared to empty your wallet. High prices but you get what you pay for. Only place that I have actually enjoy eating beets. Good oysters. Moreover you can bring own wine and save some dimes.
