The Gryphon D’or Tearoom has been serving great comfort food for approximately twenty-one years on Monkland Avenue in the borough of Notre Dame de Grace. They are known for having some of the best scones in Montreal. But it does not stop here, the small yet cozy quaint tearoom, also now serves late breakfasts and brunch, lunch and take-out. It is the perfect place for a quiet break, fantastic homemade meals or a just a pot of tea with friends and family.
Very interesting small family ran eatery. So everybody is busy in kitchen and serving customers at table at same time. After waiting for a couple of minutes, their main chef came out to greet me. Dining room is small, if you did't reserve a table, you might need wait. I decided to pay a visit after seeing all the positive reviews in the app. But I'm disappointed that their weekend menu is very restricted, first they told me, they only serve tea and scones during weekends, so I can not order many meals and food that's available during week days. So when I saw some fancy combo of sandwich and deserts served on a multi-level plates at my neighboring table, I asked to order that, again, they told me I can not because that's for reservation only. That leave me only 3 choice of scone combo meals, so I ordered the lentil soup combo with Cardamon tea and a desert. The soup, tea, and the scone was ok, nothing special, so I don't understand all the fuss about its scones in some of the previous reviews here. I actually liked the desert called "sweet queen" which is made of hot oatmeal with some fruit wedges topped with cream and cinnamon spices. At the end, the chef bring me some bonus butter cookies which I liked too. So I think their specialties might be their home made deserts. Overall I'm ok with the meal, but I think it's a bit overrated in the app, they seem to be just happy catering for their loyal frequent customers, so if you are a first time visitor like me, you might feel left in the cold and like a second class customer, looking at their frequent customers consuming all the fancy stuff, but was told you can not order yourself.
