One can never go wrong with Wonton Chai. To ensure speedy turnover rates, service is prompt and food delivery is swift. The Beef Brisket is tender, the Wontons delicious, and the broth is insanely comforting. The restaurant also offers the most delectable fried fish skin.
It's the ultimate comfort food - takeout or dine-in.
This is my usual goto place after a long shift at work. Whether I'm sitting down or taking out the service is always fast. My typical order is either a wonton shrimp noodle soup or beef brisket noodle soup. The portions are generous and the wontons are large and flavourful. The beef brisket is tender and cooked just right. The place is usually packed during peak times so you might have to share a table with other patrons. For a tasty bowl of noodle soup at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with this place!
One of the most authentic Chinese food , don't expect sir fries , Hakka or gravies .
This is real Chinese.
Great soup meals and excellent service.
We ordered shrimp dumpling soup with egg noodles , it was better than any PHO.
Awesome !
Food was served with piping hot green tea .

After spending most of the day in the west end (Erindale Park and Square One), I decided to try some Chinese food in the area. There is nothing more authentic than Wonton dumplings! This place came highly recommended in a strip mall just minutes from the city center. They have fish balls, wonton, dumplings, beef brisket with various types of noodles: egg, vermicelli, etc. I ordered a bowl with fish balls and wonton with the egg noodles. My friend ordered their beef brisket and wonton with egg noodles. All for $6.50. We also tagged on a daily vegetables to add some variety. The wonton was loaded with shrimp and the size was tremendous. The egg noodles were thin but very freshly made. I also liked their fish balls and brisket. The brisket was super tender. One thing to note about this place is that they close at 8pm.
Food is alright and we go there often for a quick bite. Wonton, brisket, noodles, soup - they are all consistent and will fill your craving.
However, I just had a HORRIBLE service experience which I wanted to relay - and I wasn't even in the restaurant.
It was 7:50pm and I called to see what time they close. A male, sounding like in his 20's, answered the phone. There was some phone static for some 10 seconds, and when it all cleared up, I simply said, "Hello?" to see if he could hear me. His response, in English, with absolutely no Cantonese accent: "What?" It was more a statement than a question.
I asked in English instead of Cantonese: "What time do you close tonight?" His answer: "8. There's a sign on the door."
Thanks JACKA$$ for that very useful tidbit of information. This amateur deserves to be FIRED for putting a really bad face to an otherwise good little resto.
Lost my first review after trying to post this one... but I had the shrimp wonton with rice noodle. Delicious! The shrimp wonton was large and filled with shrimp bits. Meanwhile, my sister had the tomato sauce noodles which were okay, and my Mom had the wonton with the egg noodles on the side. Both enjoyed their respective dishes and said the egg noodles were al dente. However, a heads up: order the noodles in soup as they are a larger portion than when ordered separately!
Came here a second time with a friend, and decided to order a dace fish ball with rice noodle. Unsurprisingly, the made-in-house fish ball was massive, so I couldn't even finish the noodles (again). At least I know now that it's not just me - My friend also wasn't able to finish her shrimp wonton noodle because of the generous portions! @
Great Little Place!. We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It wasn't too busy when we walked in however, as we were there, many people starting coming. We were given menus right away and we each decided on different dishes. We were given a large bowl of complimentary soup as part of our meal which we thought was generous. I chose the dumpling wonton noodles which were huge! There were tons of noodles with shrimp stuffed dumplings that tasted delicious! My meal was only $5.50 which I thought was great. The food came quickly, the service was great, and it tasted delicious. Will definitely come back again!
Very.very good bowl of soup. I could only eat 1/2. Quick friendly service amplely filled wantons and packed with flavor. You have to come.
Johnny Roma for T.O. Temptations signning off.
Just noodles. Really!. I tried out Wonton Chai Noodle for a Sunday lunch while out grocery shopping. The menu surprised me although I guess I shouldn't based on the name of the restaurant. Your choice really is all about noodles and soup. And a side of yu choi with oyster sauce. There's no chow mein; no fried rice; no congee; none of the other items one might find at a Chinese style diner. Your choices are essentially stuff with noodles in soup or stuff with nooodles and soup on the side (lo mein).
I opted for a three item noodle in soup; wontons, dumplings, and beef brisket with egg noodles. Service is fast. The bowl of noodle soup and side order of yu choi arrived shortly after ordered. Looking into the bowl, I saw a mass of noodles in soup and two wontons, two dumplings, and two pieces of beef brisket. This presentation style is what I would describe as "iceberg". The visible portion of the wontons, dumplings, and brisket peeking out from the soup surface is misleading with much of it hidden in the soup. The wontons and dumplings are about 2 to 3 times the size I've had at other places. The shrimp in the wontons and dumplings were nice and crisp (not rubbery), and the brisket was nice too.
I can't say these were the best wontons and dumpings I've ever had but they were darned good. And at $6.50 for the three item bowl, it's great value.
Always looking for a place with good wonton mein and stumbled across this place recently. The wonton are very good and the mein is well cooked. Have also tried the beef brisket and Dace fish balls both of which are very good as well. Service is actually reasonable catering to both Chinese and non Chinese speakers. They don’t make much small talk but are very efficient. Definitely our new go to spot!
Formerly Wonton Chai, there has been a change in ownership, and hence its current name: Wonton Express. Nothing else has changed and so the menu is the same as is the taste. It's likely the same cooks.
Like it's namesake, the wonton shrimp is huge, delicious and meals are prepped quickly. Note that the chili sauce is a real kick and very spicy. Noodles are springy and al dente as it should be.
The only downside is the customer service, which is not unusual for such places.
Great wonton soups. Wonton are a very generous size, 100% shrimp, and you get four per serving with noodles. Very similar to the wontons in Hong Kong. Food is served very quick. Highly recommend and a must try.
Great place to pick up quick lunch, usually packed, but take is quick. My go to shrimp wonton with egg noodles, is cheap, quick, and tasty, 5 min pick up. If you don't know what you want, check the menu..the servers English is limited.
One of my favourite noodle spots. Noodles are bouncy and fresh, shrimp wontons and dumplings are super fresh, veggie plate a great side.
It has been the best choice for a Chinese noodle soup. They maintain high food quality and efficient and friendly service. Although the menu is limited, you will definitely find what you want. The deep fried fish skin is my favourite dish. The chilly oil is really good. You won't be disappointed. It is conveniently located in Deer Run Plaza with plenty of parking.
Good place to grab a quick and cheap meal! This place is great for soups and noodles. Service is extremely quick. Food comes out within 5 minutes of ordering. Food is delicious, love their beef brisket noodles and wontons. During peak hours, tables are shared with others.
P.S. Remeber to bring cash, this place is cash only!!!
